3 subs but that would mean two players might leave and go to another team and that team would be competitive and the league might become competitive imagine if any of the 8 could win the comp, mind blowing

That's not going to happen just by changing the number of subs though. Very, very few football leagues globally exist where every team has a real chance of winning.

Huge result for VUW, getting up over Wellington United. Stand-in goalkeeper did an outstanding job by all accounts and to pinch a win with ~5 first XI players missing was a huge achievement for the team, even if Wellington United were (by far) the better side on the balance of chances.

Emma played for their 3rd team year before last, but not always as GK. Was my keeper in the 2nd team last year and was a big part of our stingy defence (helped by 2 CBs who have also moved to the 1st team). Came to us last season and has come on leaps and bounds since and is only going to keep getting better - massive credit to GK coach Josh Tan. Wouldn't be surprised if she displaced the currently injured 1st team keeper for the season now.

I only saw the 1st half, but based on what Ollie, the team and Dave have said the result really wasn't a reflection of the flow of the game. We'll take it, obviously, but any other day WU would have won that. Have to back it up next week now, I think we'd be fine against Seatoun, Wests would be a good game but Karori have to be favourites for the cup now.

the quote I heard from the Uni bench when we had yet another shot just miss the post, was "how are we not 7-1 down?"

nothing went our way but you have to give credit to Uni who defended very well, great performance from Emma in the Uni goal, especially a great double save in the second half where she parried it on the edge of 6 yard area and despite the ball going behind her she somehow managed to get back to save it on the line

I also saw the Palmy North v Wests game which Wests won 3-2 coming from 3-0 down. They've picked up a few of the Upper Hutt players and I'd give them the slight edge over Waterside atm - but its cup football and as Uni showed anything can happen

I believe winners will play winner and losers will play losers for the next 2 weeks, but don't think there's any silverware on the line apart from the top half/bottom half split after the first round.

If we don't have a game I'd be keen to tee up a game between the Karori and VUWAFC Prems sides Greenie - can you put me in touch with their coach?

Scratch that, they've now updated the draw - but we've got the bye! Will hopefully see Karori in the Shield final.

Not sure if its on the website yet but I've just had an email from Lisa.

Was that the game at Petone #1 on Saturday? Yellow team were well pleased with result, which seemed from what I saw to be against run of play overall, but blue team couldn't capitalise on anything they created.

Only saw some of it, but it was a bit surreal at one point. Yellow team VUW?  scored (kind of out of nothing) ball was in the net and some people didn't realise. Strikers were celebrating in a huddle before the first of the crowd were going"oh! Yay we scored" and blue team had taken the ball out of the goal and sending to half way when GK for yellow suddenly realised and started squealing and cheering like no tomorrow.

For anyone that complains that the All Whites aren't playing - get behind the Ferns instead. World Cup year, competing at the top level of world football, with some household womens football names. This result against Norway is a sign anything is possible with this team.

NZ is playing international football matches - get on board!

Uni holidays. Missing half a team and had some 2nd team players playing up.

Big change from dominating vs Wests a couple of weeks ago - based on that game was amazed they beat you in Kelly Cup!

Could have. There was more reasons than that - some in Uni Futsal tournament, overseas holidays, injuries, combined with a time of year we always struggle. Unfortunately no matter how much we tell them we want them around for games during holiday sometimes the message isn't heeded. We just do the best we can and move on, just the nature of coaching (and playing) University football it seems.

We had the same problem a few years ago with Valeron only having one team from the club and then folding due to lack of players.. Maybe if a Club wants to be in the W League it should be a requirement to field more than one team so  when players are unvailable due to injuries etc, they can draw on another team.

Capital Football back at it.

We played Kelly Cup before we'd finalised squads, so some of the players that played Kelly Cup for the 2nds ended up in the 3rd team for the season. Apparently Capital Football are refusing to allow them to play Executive Plate, because they played preseason for a different team. Fudgeing ridiculous, I would call it alarming incompetence but I've come to expect it now.

How the fudge can someone be cup-tied from a preseason game? Just cos Capital Football rolled over the regulations from last year and didn't make the necessary changes for KC being a preseason competition doesn't give them the right to fudge over their paying customers.

Can't wait til there's a rival women's league set up and we don't have to deal with them any more. I've seen what Tony Morrison is doing for social football, way better product than what Capital Football provide. Just wish player numbers were high enough to make it a viable option for Women's football.

I thought you weren't able to drop players more than 1 division anyway?

Can drop players one "league" - W-League to Prems, Prems to Div 1, but not W-League to Div 1.

That's what I thought the rule should be, but the regulations clearly say "league", not "team" - we avoided dropping any Prems players to Div 2 in the first half of the season ebcause of this.

Not that I have any faith in Capital Football to correctly write or enforce any sort of regulation.

Interesting comment from Domey, looking at a youth women's team to play in the NWL. Would be nice if they could get it sorted before the new season so there was 8 teams and no bye.

And I would hope they have one. Set up an academy like the boys, girls from around the country come in. They can attend Scots College now that they accept girls, play for the Nix during Summer and Lower Hutt in the winter. Would assume Nix have more of a plan that Domey couldn't just get out in a short tweet.

I assume to get into the women's set up and hope to get into the Australian National Women's league

they would need a bit of a detailed plan that that

And I would hope they have one. Set up an academy like the boys, girls from around the country come in. They can attend Scots College now that they accept girls, play for the Nix during Summer and Lower Hutt in the winter. Would assume Nix have more of a plan that Domey couldn't just get out in a short tweet.

and the FFDP?

Interesting comment from Domey, looking at a youth women's team to play in the NWL. Would be nice if they could get it sorted before the new season so there was 8 teams and no bye.

wonder what their case is for the point of it

Would keep being the FFDP. The boys have Ole (and other academies), I realise the women's game is thiner on the ground but I don't think it is that thin that it couldn't have another acemdy in the space.
