Hi lads,

Apologies if this is in the wrong section. I'm heading to Hamilton from Ireland in August and want to continue playing football. I'm 24 and have been playing at a half decent level.

Could anyone advise me about clubs to join, how far into the season are you now?

Any information would be much appreciated.

Half decent might be good enough for you to give Waikato Utd a try. They play during the summer months.

Ah yeah, it's hard to judge a standard until you're actually there. Thanks a lot lads, sent around a few emails, see what happens. Would your pre season kick in around Oct/Nov then?

Super mate, thanks. Got on to him there. Is football a largely a minority in comparison to rugby over there, yeah?

Yes but there is large number of football fanatics around

The New Zealand national league starts in November. It's played over our summer months from November to March. There is a team based in Hamilton and we play teams all around the country

Peter Smith is the Head Coach and you can contact him at Peter.s@waibop.co.nz

This is a regional team based on the best players from Wanderers and Melville and other clubs from around the region

Wow. That sounds like a decent score for WaiBOP. Good on them.

He would be one of the most qualified GK coaches in the country. I am sure there will be people who want to learn from him (2nd Best)

I think I really must start learning more about the development and organisational sides of football, because it seems like WaiBOP have been doing a very good job of late. Might have to chat to this guy, does seem like a top hire.

What standard if you don't mind me asking? Sunday league type football? Competitive amateur football? Semi-professional? (Which I believe is pretty much the highest level in Ireland, except the likes of Shamrock Rovers who are professional I believe).

There will be clubs from all three of those categories although I've never lived in Hamilton (Don't really plan to either tbh) and don't know much about football there.

You'll find something easily enough.

Good luck!
