Hey guys, just wondering how many of ya were a fan of the Auckland Kingz!

Remember them? they were pretty good before they got 'converted' into the Knights

Anyways, chat about how much you loved/hated them and share your thoughts on why they never made it BIG

oh BTW Jason Batty is the GREATEST! lol

The best bit is I'm a mod so if people unfairly start bagging the Football Kingz I can keep it an appropriate tribute to the club that made the Phoenix possible. Hard News2007-08-27 22:35:52

who said anything about unfairly bagging? is there not enough fair bagging to go around? lol

lol, either way, personally i'm happy to have the nix down in wellington now, and if the Kingz helped pave the way, then you've gotta appreciate them for that

Well, were do I start. Check out my Avatar.

Kingz players, mostly, were a great bunch of lads and would do whatever they could for the fans. The club had some good people behind them, they just didnt have deep enough pockets. To have so many fans/supporters that stuck with them right to the end just shows how they did get some things right. If you really knew what some supporters did for that club you would be truely amazed. Its a pity for Auckland that they only support a winning team and dont realise what it is to be a true fan. Hell look at some of the English clubs the Yellow Fever members support. Its not always about winning the league. Their lost now and our gain.

As for the Knights senior management, its hard to write anything without getting it moderated.

Its onward and upward for professional football in this country now with Yellow Fever supporting our Phoenix.

Knights was f**ked from the start.  They put the ground in Nrth Harbour, middle of nowhere on the north shore which cant get 3,000 to defend that stupid rugby cup.

I live on the shore - unfortunately.

yeah its really poor!, slightly oftopic but...

How much do you think a shirt with all the Kingz autographs on it would sell for? (if anything lol)

I've got three Danny, but I wouldn't sell any (actually, that's not true, one belongs to Smith246 on here so I'd take offers on that) so I have no idea on value.

I dont know what it would be worth. You'd be struggling to find someone who would sell one. We are all to loyal fans to part with our Kingz gear.

I do however have a certain players top that is signed that I may be persuaded to sell. I think Mr Hard News would claim it first though as he just loves Vlahos

I've got Wynton's white away No 7 shirt from a game he played in Perth. That's going nowhere unless someone has $10k in loose change. Another of my Kingz collectibles is the full home playing kit of that barstard Con Boutsianis - signed with great fanfare - and shot through without playing a game. I might save that for the day when the Phoenix beat Melbourne Victory in the A-League final and we can burn it at the ground. Hard News may have more of a story on Con:-)

Do you still have the giant shirt.. Loved the interview on TV.. Number Plates and the detailing on the wifes car..

Would be cool if the shirt could come out for at least one home game of the Nix..

The giant shirts (Lotto and Voda) and the rectangular bloc banner are all at Mr Gordons from memory.  The rectangular one is a little tatty.  Should have asked him last Sunday when he was down for the opener.

Mr Gordon is a legend

Kiwi Canary got pissed at the Kingz and day and sold the plates ( bet he wishes he still had them). On my wifes car now

Kiwi Canary was a very passionate fan, just the sort any club would wish for, hope he makes it down for a game soon

Just a pitty they were not in the team together at the same time (apart from Ulovic who was miles out of his depth).

? #OnThisDay in 1999, professional football in New Zealand was born as Football Kingz FC laid the path for the rising of your Nix.

History was made as the first game was played in the North Harbour Stadium against Carlton FC in the original NSL.

20 years on and football is still going strong ?

I remember seeing the Kingz play a preseason friendly in Palmy at Memorial Park when I was a teenager, was great fun. First time I'd seen professional footballers play live! My hazy (teenager in Palmy *cough*) memories tell me it was their first season so before the official kick off but I can't find any reference to it online. Anyone know the game I'm talking about? I'm reasonably sure I haven't just made it up. I even remember specific details, like Vicelich coming off the bench to play upfront

Yep, but that wasn't the version that went to air - it was the audio feed from the rehearsal track :)

Can anyone give me the date and score of a Kingz pre-season friendly played at QEII in Chch in 2000 against Wollongong. It was a pre-season game and one of 4 games the Kingz played in Chch? I've looked on ultimatenzsoccer but they only seem to have the regular season matches.

The others were home regular season matches against Wollongong and Perth Glory at Jade Stadium / Lancaster Park. The other was a friendly under Mickey Peterson against a Federation 6 XI (old name for Mainland Football) which was played on the QEII No.2 pitch.
