Are there any futsal leagues in the wellington region that cater for kids as young as even 5 - 6  or some kind of interschool competition cos there should be. The younger kids start playing Futsal the better they will develop both technically and tactically. It's a wonderful game but played predominantly by Adults in the wellington region

I agree with that futsal.net.nz group is good, though I am not sure at the moment there has been enough demand or support for them to be able to offer leagues for children that young.

I believe there has been some success for youth leagues down in Christchurch but it has been going there for a number of years whereas the futsal.net.nz group has barely been running for a year.

Your best bet may be to put the younger children into the general indoor soccer leagues offered at places like Wellington Indoor Sports (in Newtown) to teach kids the basic skills of passing and dribbling (or outdoor soccer of course).

Otherwise check with CCFWGTN as he will have the best idea I imagine.

Just my 2 cents worth

Totally agree guys with your comments. Futsal should be the starting point for all kids as young as 5 upwards. I am amazed at the skills my son had picked up just by watching and imitating. More kids need to be introduced to the game. Capital Futsal is looking at ways to address this. There are a growing number wishing to play but not enough to start a league as such but coaching is available. Check out the website for more details plus the new leagues starting later this month.
