Pretty uninspiring fixtures this weekend in the Central League.  Wests vs Olympic would normally be a good game, but injuries mean that an under-strength Greek team will be battling to keep the score reasonable.  Gissy will be too gold for Stop Out, Rangers will beat the Palmy Catholics by 3, and Taranaki will be beaten by the odd goal in 3 by Wellington United.

Napier vs Lower Hutt will be an interesting game, with I think the home team being held to a draw by a battling Hutt side.

I'm picking the upset of the round will be Stop Out at least getting a Draw against Gisbourne . If I has to pick a score I wiould say 2-1 to Stop Out .  As for the rest West , Miramar and Wellington United to get wins and Napier and Lower Hutt to share the points in a 4 goal thriller .

Agreed, Stop Out have a fresh start with Grant Turner leaving and are well overdue for an upset win!  Also think LH will be too strong for NCR, saw them play last week and they looked pretty sharp despite only getting a draw.

Not that i'm biased towards hutt teams or anything.........

GT is going but will be there for the game at the weekend.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Napier have been very strong at home though, I'm picking Napier 2-1.  They are buzzing at the moment and still think they have an outside chance with a lot of home games left  Gisborne will beat Stop Out 3-0, in a slight upset United will draw with Taranaki 1-1 in an uninspiring match, Miramar to get up 3-1 and Wests 3-1 also.

Good game today West Vs Olympic.

Both good attcking teams and I thought a draw was a fair result.

Barry Lewis lucky not to get sent for that punch.

Two horse race now with a game in 3 weeks proving to be maybe  be a decider.

I'm not sure what you guys are referring to. Surely you mean the header on to the cross bar???

I agree Chops. Several people around me thought it was a hand ball but I thought it was a brave header.

Be interested to hear from Barry as to weather he handled it or not.

Funny how each set of supporters have a differing view of whether it was a punch, a header or even the hands of god But hey the games between Olympic and Wests always throw up an defining incident - thats why its always a good watch - competition still open and most teams are understrength with injuries, player unavailability so it aint over till its over....

Not even - you just happened to post your comment before I did so it was all in the timing - but hey can understand why you would have taken it that way ...

Because the Greeks are always quick to forget about a decision that goes against them, aren't they?

My god though, imagine if it went the other way?  There would be pages and pages of comments on here by Olympic fans talking about how the refs are all biased, and that everyone is against them.

yeah have to say they got away with one there but at the end of the day maybe it was a bit of Kamar for the ones that were given against them. Wests are now in a vunlerable position with the big game being in a few weeks time when they battle Miramar. Atleast it makes the rest of the season very interesting. personally I would prefer Miramar to win rather than Wests they think they are so much better than everyone else. Thought that the ref did ok let alot go but was consistant in that in both directions. Hard lines re the hand of god but as I mentioned there is always an element of luck involved in any sport and today it went the greeks way. Good game though end to end stuff with both teams having a few good chances to finish the other off. thought that Shaun had a good game for the greeks and that Rowie played well for wests, both players got around the park well and at times dictated alot of the chances.
well thats my 2 cents worth. wasnt the weather grand!!

Thats an interesting comment - is it the players, coaches, supporters that you think are better than anyone else.....purely from a setup perspective it could be Miramar, Lower Hutt or Gisborne etc and surely we can't criticise clubs for having good management, setup, facitlites etc which obviously attracts good players - but if your comment is about individuals, again the club is not responsible for the attitude/arrogance (call it what you like) of players, they are who they are....better than everyone else...thats debateable cos if they were, then Wests should have had more than 5 players in the 2006/2007 Team Wellington....maybe I have got this all wrong but hey thats my 5 cent worth for the month

I was at the Stop Out v Gisbourne gamE and have to say that the result did flatter Gisbourne .Their 4th goal was clearly offside and was scored in the last minute . Gisbourne were 3-1 up at halftime but Stop Out totally dominated the 2nd half and with better finishing should have at least got a draw . Star performer for Stop Out were the Captain Garry McDermott , thier left winger and Centre Forward .

Anyone know anything about the Lower Hutt Napier game? Heard it was a boring one all match.  Only thing of any note was the Luis Corilles (sorry about spelling) spitting at a NCR player and getting sent off.

My usual source at Napier hasn't come in with anything on that game, not sure why.  I'll update the main report if anything comes to hand.

then Wests should have had more than 5 players in the 2006/2007 Team Wellington....

I'm not sure that's really relevant...Wests have looked the best team so far this year for mind, their defence is rock solid, but they're getting under a bit of pressure with injuries and players heading off to u17 and u20 tournaments.  Victims of their own success to some extent.  Miramar meanwhile seem to have settled on thier strongest combination and are scoring a lot of goals.  The match in three weeks could be a true "final" for the Central League.

I'd put some cash on Rangers winning that one.  They were a bit unlucky in the first round (can you be unlucky in a 4-0 loss??) hitting the bar twice when it was 0-0.  If one of those had gone in, who knows what could have happened?

I guess thats the difference between a team who is unlucky and a team who does the business....I saw the game and while the goals were there for the taking, Wests is the sort of team that soaks up the pressure and then takes its opportunity. Lower Hutt was another game that blew out but LH were in it for the most part of the game but the score did not reflct that.....you take your chances when you can.....having said that I think you could be right about Rangers giving Wests a good nudge and I am sure Matt will not make any excuses when the team runs out - they will just put there best effort out there and the result will take care of itself.....
