I vaguely remember stories of a Wainui junior coach who was a bit of a psycho. Wonder if this is the same guy.

Only got one side of the story, but if it proves accurate then ban him. No coach/ref at any level has the right abuse a player, and more so with junior players. To pick on a girl that way he should face criminal charges!

"grabbed her by both arms and vigorously shook her and started shouting at her" and "did not take his hands off the girl till asked several times by Mr Jones and the girl's father"

Now it it was Grammar v Mt Albert and you were Kevin Fallon that would be found to be acceptable. But for an UNDER 13 game?

If it was my daughter I wouldn't be "asking" the coach.

I'm not saying it was acceptable. the guy could easily get locked up, assaulting a child. but i'm curious as to why he would go shake a girl? it just says what he did, but why the f**k would you do it!?Luis Garcia2010-08-04 15:07:55

I think we should take a leaf out of Palmerston North's book and ban all people from Wainui from staying in K-Town motels.

"Name and Shame" is the best medicine for such disgraceful conduct.

But then, just how many adults yell and swaer their heads off in their games? How many coaches and managers abuse refs? How many men and women spectators abuse and shout at the refs and linos? You can see how and why so many wannabes all yell, shout and abuse and even brawk in the game played by so many thugs.

It all starts at the pint sized pippies learning from their adults!

Time to take action adn ban them, the whole b- lot of renegade troublesome players, coaches, managers and spectators! We may have less teams but we do not need them.

Anyone got sent off last weekend for abusing refs and linos?

I have seen two this season, both out at Te Whea. One a Cap 1 game the other a St Pats derby game. Ref was applauded for taking positive action.  Physical assault is way too far and totally unacceptable. Cant ignore being grabbed and shaken.

I think this rant is over the top - but yes I do know a certain (currently inactive) forum member who saw red on the weekend.

I saw a parent causing a scene, abusing a referee [another parent volunteering] at Newtown earlier this year before one of our senior games. I don't know which parent was from which team but I was embarrassed for everyone involved, mainly the kids. I don't know what the parents think they're achieving.

Fuck this stupid game

It sounds like the writer was plugging hard for a story (ie misquoting,a few porkies etc) over this incident. Does seem like the guy lost his rag though.

Agreed that adults need to act better in front of kids - but it's so hard trying to be a positive influence. I know whenever I am watching a game, or even in it, and you try to defend the refs actions, most people just think you're being a tit.

It's hard breaking a habit everyone has

Not much response from Wainui but from what I understand was the incident between the boy and girl happened at the end of the game in front of the Karori parents after the girl had been giving the boy grief all day. The Wainui coach had to run across the pitch to do the wrong thing about it. What were the Karori parents doing?

I can only think of one 12 year old girl that it's OK for a grown man to have a fight with...

Good mate of mine coached an under 11 or 12 team (or 11th or 12th grade whatever it is called now).  He was about 25, told all of the parents at the beginning of the season that he was the only one allowed  to shout out to the players during the match.  If anyone shouted out to the players trying to give them directions, or to the ref, he'd sub their kid off.  Did the trick very well and they had a great season because the kids weren't constantly being shouted at byt three or four different people and getting confused.

Kids don't need parents fighting their battles or getting involved at all.  Just let them get on with it, they're 12 and 13 years old.

The most amazing thing about this story is that nobody attacked Warwick Jones.

Just young teens having a banter and loads of fun.

Now and again, some one lost the rag. They see that on Boca game on TV, they see it on psp games, they learn from adults brawling, swearing and also the spectators having fun. So, why can't they???

That Smithy guy seems to know what he is doing here. Can he help?

Maybe off topic here, but we started a bit of a supporters group with creative chants and no swearing whatsoever for the Nelson Suburbs, just a bit of fun. Just the usuals "she fell over!" "same old halswell always cheating" "we've got the beach, the beast and the suburbs" etc.. bringing the football atmosphere to a local game. and we've had threats from a guy (richmond player) that he'd smash us and after the game his players were coming to beat us up. Remember Richmond aren't even in the same league. their players turn up watch the game and just abuse us as fellow spectators for actually getting behind our team who are the only Nelson team in the Mainland league.

An example is we have a facebook page "Blue Fever!" and he started getting personal.. so we banned him from the page and then he left this on richmonds page which has results etc..

"Well surprise surprise the f**kin idiots have kicked me off their BLUE FEVER page! well all I can say is bring it on next Suburbs home game you f**kin Blue Illness muppets Im going to put your Drum up your arses you pathetic embarrasing little pansies and im picking there will be a few people around who would be keen to play those drums whilst they are up there "Blue Fever front Up Or f**k Off""

There's just always one incredibly aggressive adult that needs to take a back seat at local football. And with us just being teenagers it can be quite intimidating when a grown man gets very fired up and have a history of punching people on the pitch. Luis Garcia2010-08-05 01:08:14

So why don't you let us in on them?

I'm still not sure how if true, you could ever justify an adult becoming physical with a 13 year old girl?

Paris Hilton was once a 13 old year girl - if I could go back in time to pysically assualt a girl to prevent a future situation (Terminator style) I would put her teeth down her throat.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite

Coming in to this a bit late....and in no way condoning the alleged offence....

but why did it get to the Dom Post.  Surely the correct procedure was taken, by putting in a formal complaint to Capital Football.   Leave it there!  Don't wash dirty laundry in public, and if the press do get wind, "No Comment" should be the official response until the judicial process is complete.

Down here in Queenstown my under 14(12&13 yo's)team were playing Cromwell in the Regional competion, a while back, and the Ref(Cromwell Parent/Coach)sent our keeper off for an aciddental(but nasty) challenge on there striker in a one on one where the Striker had semi rounded our Keeper. Our Keeper and a few of our players(incl. me) argued/disagreed with the Ref and then the Ref physically pushed and pulled our Keeper off the field. as he was slowly walking off. But then, to add to the drama, as our reserve Keeper was putting on his gloves he allowed there player to take a sneaky penalty, then the Ref claimed that it was justice for the foul!! Even though the Cromwell players(a few mates of mine)claimed it was unfair as well. Absolutely shocking.
