Fed League for women is an interesting one being run with only 4 teams
The draw has a Napier South Team in Division 3. Only two Hastings hibernian sides this year as well.
I think that masters league could be very tight, those havelock sides werent too bad last year either.

Good regional representation though, I hear.
Moturoa (NewPlymouth), Wanganui (Athletic?), Massey Uni and a side from the bay (Taradale maybe? ). Just missing Gisborne.
Hokowhitu apparently Covid dropouts, and a sizeable number turned up at Massey wanting a spot, so it may be more financial than lack of players.

Na Hoko women disbanded end of last year from what I heard, The senior club had some issues which resulted in no prizegiving etc. which caused the team to walk away to another club. Super sad really 4 years ago Hoko seniors were on the up had gone from 1 mens team to 4 with 2 women's teams.
Yea I heard the coach from Massey recruited very actively to build a really good sized squad.
Really hope the Fed League can come back stronger next year for the Women as its good for Football in the region.
Hopefully the womens fed league can expand in the coming years, Hawkes Bay certainly has the talent around for another team. But the players have to want to travel every second sunday which i imagine is the main hurdle.

I actually heard they tuned the Hokowhitu players way, but that was hearsay, so I couldn't comment on Massey particularly, any more than I would comment I've heard same said about Marist, Moturoa, and several Wellington clubs in the recent past, but suffice to say this is the sort of thing has been going on for years and is destroying women's football in the regions. It is the reason the Central A-League disintegrated into a four team farce, and the reason many teams folded.
Clubs go and recruit the best from all round, then run away with the league winning by double figures every week and then complaining there is no competition.
I'm sure the same sort of thing goes on in men's football, the only thing saving that from descending to the same farce is additional depth.
I've seen junior clubs do the same; head hunt every 12 yr old rep player they can, then moan they don't get competitive games. Like anyone will remember who won the Taranaki U12 div one in 20xx...or even care
Get back to developing players and teaching them how to play the game.

I have no real comment on the Massey Coach positive or negative. I had just heard he was active in getting ladies along to his pre season. If he has built a strong squad I guess that shows they wanted to stick with him. I just hope the Fed League next year can move towards an 8 team competition as that would be good for football in the Central Region which struggles to hold some of its good players (Mens and Womens) post high school.

Tough league with a lot of travel. made even tougher with what has happened to Gisbourne. Would almost be cheaper for most to complete in wellington league.

From what I can tell, a few players from Havelock and Marist have headed over to the new Taradale Feds team. However I’m not sure if that’s after those two sides confirmed they weren’t playing fee league.
I see Gisborne Thistle are in the Fed league, not sure how they will travel as the road south isn’t due open till mid may. They obviously asked NZF for a northern region draw in the Chatham cup as they drew Papakura City which will be an interesting tie

Gisbourne tend to have the finances to fly. my understanding is the first round (or two) is gisbourne away. then they are at home for the second half of the season as the other teams dont have finances to fly so hopefully the road will be open then

How is are our local pathways looking? What has been happening in youth football over the past 6 months have our u13- u17 kids been out training multiple times a week? At junior level what have clubs been offering?
Can't help but notice how many players NCR have been signing from outside HB. Seems to me like the pathway is broken.

Some of those players they are signing are local guys that have left and then come back.
I’m not sure why, but NCR don’t have their federation side they had last year. Meaning their second team is playing in the Pacific premiership. That makes the jump to their first team even bigger. So no matter how dominant and youthful their premiership side is, I don’t think it will work as a decent pathway to their first team.
I think Havelock and Taradale have decent youthful sides. That’s probably where the best of the Hawke’s Bay youth are. But I’m not sure where they go from there

Definitely the men’s championship in Hawke’s Bay.

Last I had heard was that the new Division 3 Port Hill team had come from Marewa. (Their former division three team were promoted to division 2)
But now I see there is a Port Hill Scindians team in Division 2 as well.
So I have no idea
