Petone must make a fair bit of bank off this, all for meaningless pre season games too. Its a wonder other clubs havent tried something similar

Going since 1955 without a break. Woudnt be making a killing on it with the way the council charge for ground fees and now artifical surfaces, plus referees fees even at a reduced rate

I don't often agree with Feverish - but yeah, some people take it seriously. For some it's a chance to really impress the coach.
And I kno for us plebs in Cap Prem it's a chance to have a crack at the teams in Central League. No one is at full strength, so don't throw argument in there

Correct. The word Fee should have perhaps read expenses. You may notice that the referees and their supporters get well fed after each game, which obviously comes at a cost to the tournament organisers.
I understand that when it comes to the tournament the Petone club and Referees Assn see mutual benefits in referees involvement at this stage of the season and long may that continue. I think we would all encourage the development of referees in this way. When else do they get an opportunity to practice their game skills in the same way as teams do in preseason games.

lol, settle down mate, this is the easiest time of year to injure yourself with the ground being as hard as it is. You have 18 rounds to tear the skin off any limb you like once the season starts
