Whilst I think allocation/methodology for Chatham Cup was as good as it could be, I think KS Cup allocation/methodology could be improved.

2 teams in Central region needing byes, should assign them to the two best teams in the Central League last year (Wellington Utd, Waterside Karori) instead of allocating by random to Petone and Seatoun.  Now we have ended up with Wellington Utd taking on Phoenix Reserves and 1 of those sides being eliminated unnecessarily early.

What also irks me is teams not entering.
Central and Manukau from Northern Championship
Taradale from Central League.

IMHO There should be a push to get every 1st team from the top 3 or 4 levels of the pyramid.

Agree re teams not entering maybe the $250 + GST entry fee is an issue for some clubs, with additional fees for the teams that have the home advantage in the Quarter Final - $750 + GST and Semi Final - $1,000 + GST stages of the cup (similar fees apply in the Chatham Cup).

Travel costs for Taradale would trump entry costs. Ain’t many Central teams at all assuming there weren’t prelim rounds. I guess that won’t change as long as they are grouped with Capital.

Nelson Suburbs into the last 16 without kicking a ball on the back of two defaults.  NZF need to do something but I'm not sure what.

Have some sympathy for the NW United teams as game day was switched from Sunday to Saturday after some players switched their work-day from Saturday to Sunday and then were unable to swap their work-day back.

Ouch. I guess the game being moved from Sunday to Saturday was to accommodate the catch up league game Nelson Suburbs played on the Monday as a result of Air NZ cancelling a flight the week before.  I guess the lesson is to make sure geographic outliers such as Nelson have the bye in the last qualifying round in the league so if there is any fixture disruption, it is easier to rectify.

Enjoyed the Seatoun v Miramar match on Saturday. Seatoun went 4-0 up early and then Miramar's keeper was rightly sent off for DOGSO after about half an hour. A midfielder hopped in goal and the game went on to finish 4-1, with Miramar scoring from the second half kickoff and then withstanding heavy pressure from Seatoun all second half despite being a player down.

Typically the draws are done for the next round on the second working day after a cup round, I figured it gives them a day to get everything sorted.  This time NZF, probably because of the 2 week gap between rounds have rushed through and got the draws out yesterday.  Unfortunately in rushing, a mistake was made and the publicity material has Fencibles United showing instead of Franklin United...Now if only they had shown the draw live on You-tube so we could see if the piece of paper in the ball had Fencibles or Franklin written on it!!  I am sure the 6 Northern Premier sides would like a redraw after the two championship sides remaining drew each other.

Semi Finals draw:

Dunedin City Royals vs Western Springs
Phoenix Reserves vs Auckland United

Matches to be played weekend of August 17-18

Edit: Just posted this bit in the Womens reserves thread but want to say it here too: We might see Chloe Knott and Michaela Foster line-up against the Nix in this fixture?

0-0 at half time between Phoenix Reserves and Auckland United.

Auckland looked the better side early on, looked like the Phoenix would struggle to get out of their half, but the Nix grew into the half and made for a reasonably evenly matched half in the end.

Manaia Elliot has been on the receiving end of a few heavy challenges - no malice involved, but heavy all the same

Full time 2-1 to Auckland United.

Auckland got a late equaliser in the 87th minute, and then got the winner deep into injury time in the 98th minute.

Western Springs vs Auckland United in the final next month.

Disappointing end for the Nix unfortunately - although it would've been a difficult ask if they made the final as they are losing a bunch of players in 4 days to the Women's Under 20 World Cup in Colombia

Nice that after I complained about the final being in Auckland it's the two Auckland sides that made it anyway  😂

Really? given they were effectively a professional team (3 players had either pro contracts or were on scholarships) and the rest train in a professional environment its pretty bad they couldn't win this trophy where the rest of the clubs playing are effectively amateur

That's probably a bit of a harsh take, I mean the Reserves team is a very young squad, pretty much all of them under 20 compared to the Auckland United squad which has a higher average age.

Also the Auckland United squad has a bunch of players who have had pro contracts and some which have also played overseas at a higher level than the NZ leagues. I reckon there's more professional experience and high level experience in the Auckland United squad than the Nix reserves - which makes sense sunce they're still a part of the academy setup.

I think its a pretty good achievement for such a young group to have competed so well against the NZ and Oceania champions

I mean, I don't object to Nix Reserves being in the Cup, but what is the difference from the men's Cup?

There was a Nix reserves in the mens draw as well, went out in round 2.   A handful of players played in that game and the Australia Cup game.

They did alright. They only beat one team I didn't expect them to beat. Remember they only played Central/Capital region opponents so far and it's not the best region for womens football

No Michaela Foster in the line-up or on the bench for Auckland United today - anyone know whether she is still at the club?
