Kate Sheppard Cup 2025

Is it sexist for someone to start Chatham Cup 2025 thread and not create Kate Sheppard Cup 2025 thread at same time :-).

Similar to my comment in Chatham Cup thread, I again question number of preliminary games.  Northern only needs 1 preliminary game, not 2.   (The Central preliminary game is necessary if the 13 Central Region sides are 4 Central and 9 Capital sides entered.).

I also hope NZF realised that Ngunguru was in Northland and not WaiBop...

Also interesting that some clubs must not be entering which is a pity.

The Kate Sheppard Cup draw was held first, with 52 teams entering this year’s competition: 25 from the Northern Region, 13 from the Central Region, and 14 from the Southern Region.

...

Just three preliminary round matches will be played in the Kate Sheppard Cup -  two in the Northern Region and one in the Central Region.

Kate Sheppard Cup - Preliminary Round Fixtures

Northern Region
  • Hamilton Wanderers v Te Awamutu AFC
  • Whakatāne Town v Ngunguru FC

Central Region
  • Wairarapa United v Seatoun AFC

Maybe I’m just blind but have they given a more specific time and date for the Central Region prelim than “over the weekend of 25–27 April”? What’s the bet it clashes with the Nix open day at Fraser Park on the 26th.

Is there a list of the 52 clubs that have entered somewhere?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

after my similar comment in the Chatham Cup thread, I found that the NZ football (and hence the various region) fixtures page had the list of byes.  So for KS Cup you will see all teams in the fixtures with bye against their name  https://www.nzfootball.co.nz/COMPETITIONS/Football/kate-sheppard-cup

Brilliant, thanks so much Reubee.

LOL, and in typical NZ Football style these are neither in alphabetical order nor grouped by federation. Probably in order that the entry was received order, which makes it REALLY easy...

...Why is it so difficult to find the published list of entrants for the Chatham and Kate Sheppard Cups? I just don't understand how NZ Football thinks sometimes.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Aarghh, you’re absolutely right sorry - I had a brain freeze after checking the Capital Football site for time/ground details and forgot to do the same for Central Football. Although now that I look on their site I can’t find the details anywhere…

But thanks for the catch!

Nix edged out the Diamonds 1-0 on a rainy, slippery pitch courtesy of Sienna Candy in the 68th minute. I thought the Diamonds keeper had the ball in her grasp, but it must’ve slipped past her.

And Karori Middleware beat Miramar Rangers 3-1 in the other central region tie.

I'm guessing the draw for the quarterfinals will be this coming Wednesday. Once we're down to the final eight do all the clubs go into the pot or will we still see region-by-region playoffs for the semis?

Still regional so Waterside Karori will play Phoenix - draw will just decide the home team

I've just realised that Karori have Amelia Abbott on as well

Edit: and just another note - this commentator is calling Brooke Neary 'Nearly'

Was it just me or was that pen a shocker?

It was an easy call for the ref, that’s for sure.

Nix up 2-1 at halftime thanks to Isla Cleall-Harding’s penalty then Jerez (I think?) off a very nice Sienna Candy cross, I couldn’t see who scored for Karori.

This is my first time out at Wakefield Park and I have to say IBU have an impressive club room - a nice respite from the southerly!

Yeah that's weird that Poppy O'Brien is being credited with the 2nd as it was definitely Ela Jerez!

Hard to say, the camera angle isn't great as a Karori player gets between the camera and tackle just as it happens!

On first viewing I thought she got the ball and the player, but having watched it back a few times and slowed down I can't really tell whether the keeper gets only the player, only the ball or both the ball and the player.

On one viewing it looked to me like O'Brien touches the ball slightly away from the keeper right before the tackle and the camera is blocked - my eyes could be playing tricks on me who knows. The Ref likely had a better view.

The ref was at half way and had no clue.
I know what you mean, but I see the player going left, the keeper kicking the ball away, and the player falling down. Keeper indicates as much.

I was watching in-person, level with the penalty area, opposite side from camera. Keeper had a big touch of the ball before the attacker went down.

Looks like Auckland United v West Coast Rangers ended in a 1-1 draw: what does that mean for progression to the semis?

The KSC regulations talk about extra time and penalty shootouts if required, but scanning through them I couldn’t see anything about when that requirement kicks in other than the general statement that every round is a knockout round.
