Keen for a pre-season friendly?

Hi all

Stokes Valley cap 13 side, looking for some opposition (at an appropriate level) for a pre-season friendly...

We want to book a turf so likely a small cost for both teams - approx $40 for each team I think.

Looking for a side anywhere from cap 10 down if possible... we're flexible with dates and times, can be discussed over email.

If your team might be keen, can you email two of us;

paul.mcarthur@converga.co.nz

andrew.mcenirney.converga.co.nz

Cheers

I'm guessing that JV meant the famous General George MacArthur in the 2nd  WW.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

There was a guy that coached national league 25 odd years ago that I bumped into named George McArthur at some bloody Soccer NZ thing. Couldn't remember who he coached but the name oddly stuck.

K-Force Kawasaki Old Boys (a New Plymouth team) was coached by George McArthur whom was nicknamed the General. I was sideline in '89 when they beat Happy Tavern Havelock North Wanderers 2-0 last game of the season to win the Central League and promotion to the National League. I think my Dad was the lino on that game which in part explains why I was there. Merrilands Domain was packed and the place went mental when they won. I was only 13 at the time but remember it clearly. They had an import Russell Irving (whom I think was ex Ipswich) who was silky smooth as they come and was one the nicest guys off the pitch you could ever talk to. I think his career ended because of a collapsed lung while playing in New Plymouth not long after. They playing in this garish green and white strip (the alternative was purple and white) that looked like something threw up on it in the 70's after a bad acid trip. Greenie if you have a chat to Flash Gordon, I think he would remember that green and white strip cause Flash was NPOB. Current Wellington Detective Inspector Terry van Dillen was also in that side but I digress....

Last I saw George was in 2003 when he was the Ad Sales man for Energy FM (I think now More FM) when I was at the State Hotel. A top man and a very good coach.

Sure it wasn't 95 years ago JV? Neil McArthur played for All Whites in 1923.

Like I said.  We're a cap 13 side in Cap 9.  We avoid relegation thanks to teams above us in the leagues pulling out.

Cheers HN and the Naenae boys,

Good Preseason hit out, played in good spirits.

All the Best for your season

We might be keen for another friendly. You guys are a few divisions higher but might be worth a kickabout still.

We're just discussing and will get back to you.

Cool. We're a pretty social team. Just avoided relegation in 8 after being promoted from 9 the season before, but have lost 3 of our better players who want to play a bit higher up, and our player of the season from last year has returned to the UK so as with the Nighthawks I wouldn't worry about too big a difference.

Hey man we're keen.

Whaddaya reckon about the 22nd?

Where are you guys based? Just thinking of a turf to book... would Petone suit?

Hi All,

Just bumping this thread in case there are any teams interested in a friendly prior to the start of the season?

We will be in Capital 12 again (more than likely) and are keen to play anybody from Cap 9 down.

Email me @ ronniemacnz@gmail.com if interested.

We could be. We finished second last in cap 8 last year so not sure whether we're in 8 or 9 yet. Have had a large exodus of players this year and about half the squad are going to be new so no idea yet how we'll compare to last year.

Sounds promising. We would be more than happy to play you, should be a good indication of where your team is at.

Flick me an email and we can make arrangements.
