Waimak finished a game off by getting two players sent, with one of them throwing (and hitting) a referee with the ball, after the red card. Ridiculous.

Nomads been sent to the boxing gym tonight for extra training ready for the quarter final!

Some huge games in the girls draw tomorrow, with Wellington United who sit top of Pool A to play Coastal Spirit A and Cashmere Tech while Coastal's other game is against an impressive Parkland's outfit. In Pool B 3 teams, FC Twenty11, Stop Out and Western all level on 7 points after 3 games with Stop Out set to play FC and Western in their remaining pool games. Very tight in both pools with the winners playing the final on Monday, no quarters or semis for the girls this year due to the 12 team format.

Huge norwester came up over the course of the day seriously affecting some of the games depending on whether the field was setup North /South or East/West, hopefully it stays away for tomorrows crucial games. Forecast is for moderate westerlies with bulk sun shine. Not looking so good on Monday with light rain and moderate southerly forecast.

Nomads very impressive in pool play with 3 straight wins scoring 10 and yet to concede a goal. Probably favourites to take the title at this stage although Coastal won't give up their title without a fight and would be my picks to make the finals. Again tough to pick.

Mosgiel well worth the win as were Nomads in the other semi. Will be a top game in the final, no doubt the 2 best teams playing for the title. Another awesome day of football despite the blustery conditions

Has anyone seen any of Southlands games? How did they look?

Haven't seen them other than a penalty shoot out Big Homie... Sorry...Although they have made top 8  I think so can't be too bad

Thanks man, just interested as I am a Southlander myself. They have a pretty young squad, but will be dissappointed at not improving on last years 7th place.

Last comment may be a bit harsh. Southland is unbeten in regular time, losing to Mosgiel in the quarters on penalties then Burwood on penalties.

Well done to Mosgiel on winning the final 2 nil over Nomads with a goal in each half.

Mosgiel the better team all over the park and played the last 25 mins with 10 after a player got [looked like] a double yellow card, must have been one for the tackle and one for back chat.

Nomads should have grabbed an equaliser early in the second half but blasted over when it looked harder to miss than score.

Riley in goal for Mosgiel got a ear full from the spectators behind his goal for the whole of the second half, well done son for not getting involved you had the last laugh on those that didn't make the grade.

Enjoy the trip home.

Watched them play Waimak in the final position game this morning, they were definitely a step up from last year although overall the standard was slightly higher and more even across the board. Not sure who the player was that scored Southlands first goal today but it was an absolute purler, saw the keeper slightly off his line and chipped him from 30 yards, went on to win 2-0 I think.

Good to hear Ronaldo. They have got rid of a few older players (myself included) and as a result the oldest players in the team are only 17 this year.  Hopefully they can really challenge for the top spot next year.

That tackle was bullshit. Nomads guy just fell over the ball. Pretty poor call.

Have to say it was a great girls final between Parklands United & FC2011 with FC winning 1-0 with a well taken goal in the first half, thought Parklands were probably a little unlucky not to get the win, some really good football on display, also well done to Coastal for a well run weekend

Gosh Slushy, you must have been watching another game. Tackle deserved the YC (Reckless) then player kicked ball away, 2nd YC, see ya later son. Referee got it absolutely spot on.

I've never seen a double yellow card before. One for the tackle and then one for kicking the ball away in the same 3 seconds.

2nd time I've seen it happen this season.... A Christchurch Utd PDL player got the same earlier in season!

Can't believe I screwed up for Mosgiel's first goal. Still peeved off about it, misjudged the bounce and it goes straight over my head to their LM/LW. He was class throughout the tournament.

He is class but you guys erred by playing young PR on him. Total mismatch right there.

Kotahitanga. We are one.

He's always been a CB from what I've known, but he would have gained heaps of experience from playing in this tournament, no doubt.

I sure did learn a lot from playing in this cup for the first time, way more intense then playing in 18th 2nd Div this season.

Did James McGarry play for Mosgiel?

Yip, I think he even got named MVP.  It was one of the McGarrys...  And not the Dad.

Scored both goals in the final, bit of talent there. Pretty good tournament overall for the lad. Mind you they had a few good players. Lad that got sent off stood out as well, very good in the holding midfield role.

By the end of the tournament we didn't have much option even if we wanted to.... Joe Brodie was ruled out of the 2nd and 3rd day with a pulled hamstring, Liam Thompson was unavailable on the Monday and 2 or 3 others were carrying knocks too. In fact by the end of the final there was only 1 sub left standing!
At the end of the day the team put into the tournament was there for experience for a lot of the younger guys, with Patrick Rouse, Ash Watson, James Hoare, Hamish Wallace & Jordan Thompson all gaining valuable experience from this thanks to the experience of the older guys such as Preston Bell, Rene Lasorsa and Louis Perriman who have all had MPL experience.
For a team that was brought together late in proceedings, it was a great achievement to make the final, let alone get there without conceding along the way.
On the day Mosgiel were the better team, and all credit to them, the 1st half they dominated the majority, 2nd half could have told a different story, especially after they were reduced to 10 men.
The coaches and fans alike are proud of the lads throughout the tournament and thank the 'older' guys for the work they put into providing a great experience for the 'younger' guys.

2nd goal was a bit fortunate though after Mark Avery pulled off a great save to deny him, only to see the ball bounce back off McGarry and in! His 1st goal was certainly a well taken left footer though....
