don't stand in front of the dart board!!!!!!!!!
It's an interesting question.
Are a club's decisions capable of only being made by the board, as elected members, or is the term "club" more embracing and constitute not just the board's decisions but also the decisions of those involved with the club i.e. parents, to the extent that their, the parents, actions, can be said to constitute, and be therefore held to be, the actions of the club.
As for timings of the respective tournaments I guess the reality is that they are so close together so as to make it an either or decision. It's just a shame that they can't embrace the rep side of things.

As for the "club" attitude being those of individual parents/players, really? You are going to state a club is to be held accountable for decisions made by individual players and not the collective group driving a club. In that case the 3 or 4 clubs with ex Waimak players who live in north Canterbury that did not trial for 15th grade must be responsible for North Canterbury not winning. Shame on you Parklands, CashTech, and FcTwenty11!!
honestly-Socrates was a great thinker you are miss-using his name. please read answers as you have been given plenty. I am not on the board of waimak and know the under 12 team well ( not involved in this team), if the club is responsible for parents decisions we need to be called a communist club, base your accusations on fact and give names!
In fairness to me I did pose a question as to what constituted a club decision - I didn't hold myself out as answering the question. It was simply posited as something to consider, as I don't think it is as clear cut as you say - there are good arguments on either side.
It seems, from what you are saying, that there wasn't a tournament at 12th grade and simply the parents of Waimak players chose, for what ever reason, not to go. It does seem a very strange decision, given the enjoyment that the children would have had up there.
but Socrates you said you had info from people saying it was the clubs decision, either you have names or you are slandering the club. within our region there is a small club that continues to knock waimak (I suggest you are a member) but they continue to forget who organises their junior comp. I think there is a lot of tall poppy syndrome here. why do our numbers still increase? and the knocking waimak bus left 2 years ago. I hope you put in the hours as a volunteer I do cos I don't see much of my family unless they follow me and I do it for the players.
I was wandering around talking to people from loads of teams at the venue as their teams were playing, and that was a point that was mentioned. I thought it deeply disappointing, hence the post. There was a lot of positives to take from the tournament, which was brilliantly run. I thoroughly recommend it to your club for next year and hope that your players attend.
Not a Cantabrian and so not a member of the anonymous club to whom you allude
me thinks people like to stir and cause dramas.
congratulations to Waimak under 13 and 15 girls who went to McCartney tournament over last weekend and beat all-comers to both be champions. our 11 girls finished 3rd and our 17 boys lost in semis. response from Auckland clubs were that our teams were technically better by a stretch. girls 13s scored 56 with only 1 against also our 9 boys were beaten in Auckland 1-0 in the quarters of the 3 kings invitational nationals after been unbeaten against everyone in the 10th grade band A this year. as a club we are producing, now we need to keep players who are been poached. sadly in this years Nike cup 8 players from the top 3 teams were Waimak juniors and still live in the region but have chased their FTC coaches and mates. apart from Cash/Tech which other club in Mainland is producing such a production line in juniors consistently?
Socrates initiated this thread with the statement, "Waimak, as a club, for one reason or another has let their region down".
In the posts that followed he/she has admitted that he doesn't know the real truth and doesn't appear to have any facts to back up the statement. Instead of retracting the statement he/she asks more questions which further demonstrates a lack of knowledge of the subject matter.
The final straw for me was the comment, "I thoroughly recommend it to your club for next year and hope your players attend."
Waimak players have been representing North Canterbury at Blenheim for at least the last 10 years. We are very aware of the merits of this tournament as well as all the others conducted around the South Island at this time of year.
I suggest that you retract your original comment and we will accept this as your apology for your blatant Waimak bashing.
I don't think its in Socrates style to apologize or back down. Small mindedness and jealousy perhaps. Sad to say he wanted to throw rocks at the windows but only bought dust. P2BW gaffa
Vim, Not correct. Nth Canterbury started this game with 11 players. Both teams had already qualified for semis with three wins each, and had semi to follow (third game of day) two hours later.
The no. 1 GK was rested with swollen knee, Players with yellow cards were protected for semi and not used.
Another player was vommitting and did not play at all that day.
Four players that started were from Div 4 including the GK, as per rules each player must play equivalent of two tournament games.
Players picked up further knocks in this 'meaningless' fourth pool game, and were not replaced.
This team ended up 4th so they deserve credit for their achievement. Some Canterbury parents were still bleating on the next day how bad this was by Nth Canterbury.
Originally after trials the 15s squad was selected and 10 players withdraw, a few because they thought they were too good for Nth Canterbury and then the coach withdrew.
All eligible players were then invited to join team, of which ten responded and a new coach appointed. Eventually a team of 16 was finalised four weeks out from tournament. All withdrawn players were not allowed to rejoin.
So if players were rested or not played, so that the team could perform creditably in their semi final, then I do not apologise.
We lost the semi 4-0 to Canterbury Red, and I am proud of our boys efforts.
This was not a Waimak team, players were from Oxford,Hurunui,Waimak,Parklands,St Bedes.
Get over it.
Paul Bau 15s Coach
As per usual Vim, dont let a good attack rumor on Waimak be crouded by the truth.
Well Done Paul and the boys what applied themselves
Was it twenty. I must have missed quite a few.
Yeah, I should have played theinjured Keeper with ice around his knee. The boys with knocks and cramp should have been sent straight back out. The boys on yellow should have been played and possibly missed their only ever opportunity to appear in a Semi final.
Perhaps the vomiting boy could have 'manned up' and thrown up on the opposition.
I should have screamed at the 4th Div boys that played, everytime they made a mistake.
Our decision was a team one, but I as coach will wear whatever you throw. None of our boys were too concerned after.
thanks Vims mum
just following all you guys lead.
and it was very obviously a slant on North Canterbury. Perhaps you guys are to cosy with each other to see that. My bad, keep up you boys club

Great news!! Were they up against the top players from other regions ? Does this mean we will get players into NZ sides?
Who knows? Apparently if you are any good (or at least adequately resourced) you go to an Academy.
