As a coastal player I know players dont get paid. A couple players get incentives but not paid in cash. Both of those players havnt been playing because of injury or international duty. Its obvious new players aint getting paid when they complain about having to pay for yellow cards lol. Yes we have recruited well the last couple years but thats mostly because of our coach. For me its simple. Players go to Tech because they have the best infrastructure and always win. Players go to Coastal for the coaching and a club on the up. Players go to Bays because they cant make the Tech team or Ekow doesnt want them.Obviously apart from Murph and the very few loyal Bays lads. Not going to lie, its pretty depressing training at Cuthberts but its all worth it. Coaches make the difference for me. Having played for John Brown at Tech man management specialist, love the guy - Halligan for Canterbury a tactician - Im fully supportive of Ekow who has both of them attributes. Im not here for cash. Pure and simple.

Just think yourself lucky Bexley got trashed in the earthquakes :)

With half the MPL season almost gone and cards starting to mount-up looks like both Stu Kelly and Sam Orritt will be standing on the naughty chair for this weekends round.

From Nelson Mail / The Press: South Island League

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/domestic/929...

If Mainland Football and Football South want to get a South Island league up and running they need to bite the bullet and say it's on from 2018.

We have spent far too long trying to get the Southern clubs to get on the bus.  It's time for someone to play the CEO and make the big calls and less talk.

Do the clubs and the football players really want it then lets see them put the money on the table to get it going.

Make the entry a first come  from each region with an entry fee of say $20K non refundable if the league starts.

Entry for a ten team league try for 5 teams each region with all travel costs, refs fees to be taken out of clubs entry $.

Should we only get a couple of Southern clubs to put up then we know for sure they are all talk about wanting a batter competition.

Stick one of the plenty of staff at Mainland/Southern to get it up and running, more media coverage would be a good start then go look for a naming sponsor.

You need a profile to sell it so getting it out early would help instead of the last minute run around.

5 games in which an ineligible player was fielded but one of those was a 0-9 loss, so the on-field result stood, i.e. no oggies for that match. So perhaps only 12 oggies from the affected games?

Watching the Friday night game Coastal v Western Comedy of errors What's the point of the southern league when senior football is that bad??? Any good players invariably leave the region so just keep it the way it is and pour resources into making youth football better and getting players out of the region

Freezing Friday night Football, not the best advert for the game but still enjoyed watching it. Stream seemed a bit better than previous efforts so that might have helped. I think a better answer would be to not play games at night in winter if you're going to broadcast them or just don't broadcast them as this was probably the poorest of the season.

Sounds like fun was had in the Coastal Stand, sorry I missed it.

Last time I watched Coastal - Western one of their players came up in to the Steve Sumner stand to say hi to his folks after the game and was overheard saying how much he hated Coastal but how much he wished they had supporters like ours :)

Their coach Simon is a top bloke. Caught up with him and his Bulldog today at Cuthberts.

I hope Nelson win as well after looking at the table.

Gravely concerned CTFC are going to give us a right kicking as payback for Garrick Park result.

If both Bays and CTFC win then that's terrible

Yes heaps of permutations for the top four team on Saturday, the spread of points between 1st and 4th could range between 6 and 11 by the end of the round.

With the bottom half of the table also full of combinations with the match-up between Western and Universities having a hugh impact on the relegation battle.

If anyone is keen they will be able to watch all four games, such is the draw.
