Selwyn were very deserved winners vs our Waimak lads today. Thanks to Chris and others at Selwyn for the assistance with our injured player.

Never a problem helping injured players, whichever team they play for. I hope he is doing OK. Fair play to the guy, he seemed more disappointed than being in pain.

Sorry to read of the passing of Stuart (Stu) Burns in yesterday's Press. Worked with Stu at the Post Office / NZ Post and became friends with our common interest in football. Stu edited programs for several local clubs, Christchurch United, New Brighton AFC and Woolston WWC and I supplied photo's. Served on the Canterbury Football Association for a period and acted as the liasion officier for several visting football clubs including Watford AFC in 1981. Also was the footy reporter in the early years of Radio Avon and well at acting as a 'stringer' for the old Christtchurch Star Sports. Was a long time scorer for the Sydenham Cricket Club for many years. Stu was not in the best of health in recent years and caught up with him at the Edith Cavell home recently and spent time talking about his beloved Hull City AFC and Melbourne League clubs. RIP Stu

Western should fit right in to CCL next year with that result today !

Did not manage to see any of men's games today but plenty of goals in three of the Chatty Cup ties.

Sounds like a good penalty shootout between Bays and Nomads with all regulation spot kicks scored, then into sudden death with Tom Batty saving Bays 7th with Nomads then slotting their 7th to move into next round.

In the English Cup game Western went ahead in the 71th minute with burwood then scoring twice for the upset.

Results / Scorers

Chatham Cup

Cashmere Technical 8 (Stu Kelly 3, Lyle Mathysen 2, Gary Ogilvie, Dan Schwarz, Ben Howes) Parklands 0 Ht 5 - 0

Ferrymead Bays 0 Nomads 0 aet Nomads advance 7 - 6 on pens

Nelson Suburbs 5 (Ben Wright, Matt Tod-Smith, Max Winterton, Robbie Pearson, Kristian Gibson - pen) Central Pirates 0 HT 3 - 0

Universities 0 Coastal Spirit 5 (Jordan Ball 3 - incl pen, Sam Orritt, Liam Hare) Ht 0 - 3

English Cup

Western 1 (Mohamed Khalifa) Burwood 2 (Hugo Toye, Aaron Cope) HT 0 - 0

You're getting your cups mixed up. English vs Chatham don't play.

Lovely idea though, I get ya.

Back to top four playing sides from the bottom half of the table for Round 13.

Round starts with another Friday Night Footy game:

FC Twenty11 vs. Coastal Spirit at 7pm at English Park

Saturday 2:45pm

Cashmere Technical vs. Western - Garrick Memorial Park

Universities vs. Ferrymead Bays - Ilam Fields

Sunday 1:30pm

Nelson Suburbs v. Nomads -Saxton Field

Still 27 points (30 for Bays and Suburbs) up for grabs with the average number of points to win a 21 game league being 50.5 points and more than eleven to avoid the drop so still plenty to play for.

Amazing how often this seems to happen with verious cup draws during the season with Coastal facing Suburbs in the MPL on the 17 June in Christchurch and now facing each other the following weekend in the cup.

Lovely idea, however I blew heaps of money last time, and will go up on the last day of the season to win the league.

Just been updating the scoring, failed to score and clean sheets stats in the MPL with several clubs having  reached major milestones in recent rounds.

Both Ferrymead and Nelson Suburbs have now scored in 253 games out of 308 played with Coastal Spirit and Cashmere Technical both having passed the 100 mark - both on 106, Coastal from 138 games and Tech 117 games.

Technical now have the best goal difference in the league of 246 (from 334 For and 88 Against) having recently overtaken Suburbs who sit in 242 (621 F 379 A), with Bays the only other club to be above 200 on 216 (634 F 418 A).

Of the 18 teams that have played in the MPL only 8 have a positive goal different, with 6 of them currently in the league this season. Games played show in ( ), those being Cash Tech 246 (117), Suburbs 242 (308), Bays 216 (308), Western 59 (309), Woolston Tech 57 (98), Coastal 21 (138), Nomads 19 (246),  ChCh Technical 6 (76).

Will post the other teams is anyone is interested.

Burwood played an ineligible player against Western in English Cup (on Queen's Birthday Monday) so Western awarded game 3 - 0 to move into the semi-finals.

The other three quarter finals being played on Tuesday evening at 7pm:

ChCh United vs Cashmere Technical - CFA

Ferrymead Bays vs. Hurunui Rangers - Ferrymead Park

Universities vs. Coastal Spirit - English Park

Do the team cards say on them that players names must be spelled 100% the same way as they are registered? Otherwise surely grounds to appeal, if you can appeal?

Hoping Steve Ager is  still on top banter form.

Do not think a this would lead to a player be being called 'ineligible'.

The term 'ineligible' usually centres around the transfer / registration of a player.
