Perhaps Mainland wants Burwood to merge with Parklands. That would solve the issue of getting into div1 without taking 5 years of back to back promotion to get thr. It appears from the outside to be the logical thing to do for years, but hasn't happened for whatever reason.

Despite being from a merged club and seeing what it has done for us, there is still benefits from having the Burwoods and Parklands of the city. Local clubs are cool and gives people access to football in the community.

Besides, who wants to only play the same 5 other clubs week in week out.

I don't think that's what Mainland are trying to do anyways, and with only one club supporting it, there seems to be a mandate.

How about 3 rounds in all grades above pressies? Would that be possible with the new floodlit sand based pitches coming on line plus better utilisation of ASB?

As for Burwood and a possible merger with Parklands surely it's not about what they want but what is best for the game?

That's after Burwood, Pap Redwood, Banks Peninsula, Darfield and HSOB have been swallowed up

Add St Albans-Shirley & oxford to the mix aswell. We still have a lot of clubs considering the size of our city

With 2014 almost done and pre-season training underway in a few weeks and then the pre-season tournaments kicking off in Feb which clubs will be in action, I hear that there may be a few more pre-season friendlies already arranged.

Heard at least one MPL club may give the pre-season tourny's a miss.

With Waimak now having their turf pitch up and running will this be a draw factor for clubs to head out there.

The Waimak turf is a bit soft at the moment needs a lot more bedding in.

Who would pass up the glory and history of the Coastal pre season tournament?

First mistake of the season.

Maybe for pre season 'a bit soft' would be ideal.

Happy New Year to All.

What will the 2015 MPL bring?

Have been looking at the stats and the following milestones will be achieved in the coming season.

The 4000th goal will be scored - 231 goals to go, with the 2000th home goals also being reached - 30 to go.

The 600th clean sheet will be kept - currently 570 and the 50th 'no score' draw - just one to go.

The following clubs will reach the following milestones:

Coastal Spirit will play their 100th league game and University their 50th.

The following milestones are likely (or not) to be achieved by clubs - some good some not so good - clubs in alphabetical order.

Cashmere Technical: 7 wins away for their 50th win, and 39 goals away from scoring 250 and 1 away from conceding their 50th

Christchurch United: 8 wins away for their 50th win, 7 losses away from their 100th defeat

Coastal Spirit: 20 goals away from their 150th and 6 away from conceding their 150th

Ferrymead Bays: 23 goals away from 550th, and 3 points away from 450

Halswell: 3 draws away from 50th and 32 points away from 400

Nelson Suburbs: 1 draw away from 50 and 21 goals away from conceding their 350th

University: 1 win away for their 10th win and 16 points away from 50

Western: 30 goals away from their 500th and 20 points away from their 450

I understand 3 or possibly 4 MPL teams have decided to give the tournament a miss this year in favour of doing their own thing - Bays, University, United are three names I have heard.

So if all these clubs dont do the Coastal Preseason - what do they do?  Travel round avoiding each other playing other teams? (Not a bad idea I guess)

Or is there another preseason about?

Going by todays story in The Star about Halswell new football development consultant, Graeme Atkinson, does this mean there will be a name change to Hullswell United

A striker played for two blue and white clubs now going to the black and yellow strip.

With ASB pulling the pin a complete new kit out will be needed.

A few questions here;

Is Vim and Foal the same person? Or are they married and always answer each others questions?

Would Foal like to answer AW82's question himself?

Could there be another reason people are pulling out of his tournament? Are the facilities up to scratch? Is it too expensive? Does it have something to do with his coach slagging other teams in their own clubrooms after a convincing loss?

Do other clubs owe him a favour? or are they just "Straight out ungrateful"?

Hey guys, just a quick question, does mainland football get many uni students from outside of christchurch that come and play? Because im in this sort of situation as uni starts mid feb and most if not all teams have started pre season training, therefore missing the chance of playing mens football.

The uni football club run rego in O-week so I suspect they'll have a few slots in their top teams they expect to fill later in the piece. contact them early (UC Football have facebook etc) and register an interest.

As for other clubs? if you're good enough you'll make it regardless of when you turn up
