I thought that at the time actually, I don't think the CEO of an organisation like MF should come out quite so enthusiastically towards one club.

A simple 'Great effort from CT to reach the final' would be fine i reckon.

I can't imagine Lee Germon from Canty Cricket creaming himself to quite that extent when LPW or ES won the National Club Champs (each won it once in the last 5 years)...

FWIW I think it' good for a code's governing body to congratulate individual club based success.

Wouldn't be the first time Coastal have kept a team up, think FC in 2012

Match fixing in the MPL ;)

Linfield Park

Chris was a good footy player in his youth. I am sure be played rep footy before cricket took over.

Chris played for Nomads in junior grades.

I thought Coastal are ambitious , 2 wins and you can go 4th . But if you want uni to win even when u beat us you stay 5th.

Yer I know.  Stuffed up against Nomads (again) and drew so that woulda made us even closer.  I'm picking Nelson will beat them on the weekend to give them their first win in like ever, and that should seal their spot in 4th as we probably won't beat you.

I'd still like to see Uni stay up as they were/are better than Nomads, however when it comes down to it I won't be able to control not cheering for my team on Satdy.  Especially with the semi I'm going to get the next day.

The main pitch [league pitch] at Tulett is still over grown and very wet soft still no show of playing on that one for a few more weeks.

Game for this Saturday set to be on pitch 1, a training and lower grade pitch usually.

Coastal Women retain Premiership after defeating CTFC today.

Bad news for the Nth West with Nomads result. Big stretch of the city with no MPL for them and FC2011.

Second time Nomads been unlucky to go down on goal difference. Last time it was even on points and GD and they had to look at goals scored.

That was in 2011 when going in the the last round ChCh United on 18 points and Nomads on 15. ChCh United lost 2 - 1 to Haslwell with the Hawks concede and own goals with Nomads winning 2 - 1 over Western with Nomads conceding a penaly in the second half.

both ChCh United finisd with 18 points and a -18 Goal Diff with United having scored 19 goals to Nomads 16 so in the end the own goals and the penalty decided the relegation battle.

Of like then and this season it was how teams feared in the previous 20 games before the last round that had the biggest say.

Nomads now joined ChCh United as the only clubs to be relegated from the MPL twice.

so vim how much did you and your fellow board members bet on uni

Permalink Permalink

possibly the same as tech paying players, which apparently is nothing!

WIth Cashmere Technical confirmed as MPL champs it continue's one of the strange stats around coachs winning title.

So far of the 13 MPL titles since 2002 all but two have been coach's that have a surname starting with "B".

Bignall x 2, Braithwaite (Keith) x 4, Braithwaite (Mic) x 2, Brown x 2 and Brydon x 1 and the odd ones out Almond x 1 and Simpson 1.

I know of at least 3 of the clubs in the 2015 MPl likely to have new coaches so maybe best hire a coach with a surname starting with "B".

Not sure why anyone else would care who got relegated.

Silly thing to say.

Nah, no conspiracy at all.

Quality of the Uni sidelines and those walking past is my main reason for cheering them on.

In Div 1 for 2015 will Mid Cant be back? If not who will be the 8th team?

Permalink Permalink

Western won div2 this season so would imagine they come up, especially seeing they not already there.  Will be bad for Mid Canty region if  no team. Maybe 10 teams and 18 games if they keep mid canty up too.

Should it really be an option though? Mind you - Selwyn got lucky last year after finishing last and being able to stay up.

I think if you finish top you should go up..finish bottom you go down..

This is the main reason Mainland have so many problems with the Masters.

If you don't want to go up, just make sure you don't top the league..simple!

Mid Canty wont be back in div 1 & due to them pulling out of the league they never got relegated so next year they will have to start back in div 6.

If you win a league promotion should be compulsory otherwise go back down to div 6, has to be something to put teams off choosing not to go up

Wording isn't ideal, I get they were angling for the whole "still in the running for 3 trophies" but it's come across potentially a bit off

Another vacancy up for grabs by the looks of it.

Halswell United would like to invite expressions of interest for the 2015 Premier Mens Head Coach position.
Suitable applicants would show a passion for Football and developing the next generation of players at the Halswell United. They will also be willing to work with our Football Development Officer, General Manager and Club Executive to ensure an adequate pathway exists for HUAFC players. Interested persons should email huafcgm@gmail.com. Expressions of interest should be received by 5.00pm, Friday, 5th September 2014.

Nomads relegation didn't get many lines in the Press. Mainland article was OK good to see some visibility on summer options and what I felt was a sounding out of clubs over schools.
