Na it wasn't nine. I was there and there were a few, but not nine. Maybe 4 or 5.

He read Vim's guestimate and put 2 and 2 together.

Final draw is out. With the disappointment of no Southern League looks like the big away trip will have to be Nelson. Unless we get a massive Chatham Cup draw against Waimak away.

If this was the Waimak Tournament game last night it certainly wasn't SAS's main team!

predictions for this years MPL starting this weekend....... usual story for me. Tech to win, Western to go down. Nelson or Coastal for the 2nd southern league play off spot.

No Chch Utd in there? Otherwise same for me. Don't forget it's a 21 game league so plenty of opportunities for points.

1: Tech

2: Coastal

3: Chch Utd

4: Nelson

5: Nomads

6: Bays

7: Selwyn

8: Western

It all depends on what dragons players Utd get.

It's quite hard to look at the draw when it's not even on the Mainland website yet!  I guess there's still 4 days before kickoff.

Ah, I guess it is. I've just been looking at the front page with the weeks old news, and then when I click on fixtures I get this:

I didn't dig any deeper once I see an old fixture screen.

Thanks for the heads up.

Got to watch 2 very different MPL games today. The first Coastals 8 nil win over Western. The score flattered Western probably because Coastal switched off once up 3 nil early and then again at the start of the second half. Western were tragically poor and with this side would probably be bottom 3 in CCL. Have to say Linfield looks good as a venue.

My second watch was Chch united vs Nomads. Two very different sides. Nomads technically better and deserved half time leaders. United obviously set out to dominate them physically in the second half and did so, but Nomads finished the better and were unlucky not to take all the points. In my opinion Nomds could do a lot better  if the players were allowed to make their own decisions. They were constantly berated from the bench for not playing it "every time " to their number 9 who in my view was quite average. Their creativity actually came from their young wide players.

United were pretty similar to last years CCL side albeit a year older. Don't think they will threaten the top teams but then again it's early days.

Anyone try following the opening round on twitter?

#MPL20

Well done @CoastalSpiritNZ and @StallionSUFC for some match commentary (Gavin, watch that Selwyn handle; they changed it last year)

The other 6 clubs had ...nothing. Tell your clubs it’s time to get going with it or offer to give it a go yourself - they’ll probably appreciate it.

Any other social media being used for match line ups or commentary?

Yer was pretty shark, agreed. Only one I could see was AW82, made me think how much I relied on Bet365 updates and as there was no betting allowed this week, there was radio silence.

Cheers. I could only find five of the clubs had their line-up on social media, not all had shirt numbers and or christian names, which is not the best early in the season with new players making debuts
