No it is legit. At least from what I have heard about Coastal's games. The first 3 games are all at Tullet even tho we not playing Nomads!
I've just built a deck at Linfield!

You can forget lower grades and Junior football for this year, reading between the lines of the Mainland release.
Worst reading between the lines I have seen since Ken Ring.
My reading between the lines reading is that all MPL is played at Tullet for the month and then once all parks are sorted then normal service will resume. Which is seniors 16th and juniors 30th.
It does therefore beg the question why all games are @ Tullet and not at the usual home grounds for the month. An ideas on that call?

From the Mainland office .....
Waimak have good pitches.
MPL games the word this morning is Halswell Domain is out of action.
The other note doing the rounds is four games on Saturday at Tulett Park. The lights at Tulett are being worked on this coming week so they may put in a new location for pitch number 2 and use English Park posts.
Bexley was a bit rough and not unexpected the other night, maybe pitch 2 is the better of them?

Whew to the newest thread created about the meaningless Nelson Div 1. Might bring a bit of reasoned debate back to this thread.

He seems too one eyed, Nik.
I'll do the first one seeing as we've got Nelson. Expect extremely biased report getting strange and almost incoherent by the end due to large alcohol intake.
Ha brilliant!
That info came from the meeting last night, the mainland report was from before the meeting.
Ah righto then, my apologies. Was there much said about the lower leagues? Last I heard we would be starting about 2 weeks late.

Better not. Impression I got is we are waiting on the council (and fair enough they'll take a while with their decisions). Wonder how outer districts would cope with an influx of teams, although I suppose Rugby and League have very similar problems to our own so grounds would still be limited. I don't really want to have to move to play football this year.

probably same date for lower grades but good luck on that happening

I think it's a combination of Tullet Park, Halswell Domain and obviously Nelson is still available for away games.
Apparently CCC told an all sporting codes meeting there were other priorities ahead of grounds. Fair enuf. Yet on Thursday morning (10th March) contractors were making a bloody big pile of silt from all the liquefaction on Sydenham Park (a CCC - rugby -ground). Either the clean-up has gone so well that we can now turn our minds to cleaning up sports grounds (hmm); or we have rugby conspiracy theory #1!
Mainland Football has set a tentative date of 16 April to commence all Senior, Masters and Presidents grades and 30 April to commence junior football. These dates are not confirmed at all. We have another meeting with CCC on 21 March which should be more useful with regard to setting a season start date. We would like to think these dates are still realistic but we wont know until at least after this meeting on 21 March.
We are endeavouring to start the MPFL on time on 19 March. If we are successful in getting this started it will require PFL clubs to be flexible with changes to venue, times etc.

Good to see some humanity and sympathy for earthquake struck city considering past comments.
Much appreciated.
Much appreciated.
CCC made it clear that it was not simply a matter of checking whether fields were clear of liquefaction. Many other factors must be considered to ensure to reduce hazards or risk. These include checking of toilet blocks, surrounding trees, creeks for contamination, liquefaction, cracks etc. It was pointed out that drainage issues may cause problems as the rains hit in winter rendering some fields unplayable as winter progresses. CCC would not commit to giving any dates when winter sport could start. When playing fields have been assessed CCC will be able to meet with the winter codes and consider winter usage. It could well be that Football does not have the allocation that it has had previously. There are simply many unknowns at present given an emergency is in progress and CCC sport staff are being redeployed as welfare staff.

Posts up at Bexley! 2 grounds useable, just need portaloos now.

Does anyone else get those No 1 Fan emails? It always says Newsflash but the batteries must be out as the flash of news is around 2 weeks late. The one that arrived today was dated 3 March.
Yea a slight technical fault with their communication, Bridgette must be working at the far end of Mike Coggan's garage. For some reason I am privy to the info directly from Mike Coggan, like you say roughly 2 weeks prior to it being released as a newsletter through the No. 1 fan vehicle.

Rough is a good word for it, at least it's out of the munted category like so many around the city. No. 2 definitely the pick of them although will need to shift towards the dog park (northern end) to accomodate the Champions League In-house section who obviously need the best fields at the southern end. Teams will need to do a head count at half time in case they lose players in some of the cracks.
Linfield is also available with 2 reasonable pitches (some talk of using No. 1 as well alternating with the rugby!) and the plan is to get at least 2 more up on Cuthberts shortly. And South Brighton is in mint condition, posts going up within the next 2 weeks, 1 senior and 1 intermediate.
crisis averted as club hoists posts for intermediate field @ SB Domain
well done Wayne
also anyone checked out Avondale Park?
supposed to be 2x intermediate fields there for the winter.

From my visit to Avondale Park two seasons ago the goals measured the height of a rugby crossbar for an intermediate goal.
I never heard there was to be 2 intermediate fields there. It's big enough for a senior and maybe a intermediate too I reckon, and seeing as there is a lack of senior pitches it may have to be that.

Oh for crying out loud. Maybe I should go the the Auckland league thread and harp on about how Halswell should have beaten Central in the Chatham Cup a few years back and how we will beat them next time. I'm pretty sure there is no such promotion/relegation match anymore. Relegation is automatic to the team in last. It was a promotion playoff between two 2nd tier leagues under the Mainland banner last season, so no you will not meet Coastal.

Wellington College 1 - 0 Coastal Spirit in Manchester United Cup. They join someone from Auckland to play in Melbourne.
Yer there's a whole thread of it here: https://www.yellowfever.co.nz/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=15109
I see Nelson Suburbs have updated their supporters page today. Looks good. Might be good if some of you Cantabs can help with summaries on away games.

After about 60 minutes he gets quite vocal, you'll probably hear him all the way to Nelson.
last season we created "Blue Fever" bit of a supporters club. Chants and heaps of booze. Even got a story about us in the Nelson Mail! but with people off to uni and big issues with complaints from Richmond, it was toned down a bit and got smaller. Probably won't be anywhere near the same extent this season with a lot of people unavailable on a Saturday but do expect some very biased comments back! haha
