My bad :(
I also picked Nomads to draw with United but they let me down badly.
Damn it, another one that got away ffs. We were good, just not good enough. Big game on Monday, home game for us at South Brighton Domain. Tech are struggling just a little bit and we need to put some distance on the bottom of the league so a good chance to take 3 points.
Nomads look in real trouble with the first round completed on Monday apart from the Tech Western catch up game.

Western 2-2 Bays

Western had best of 1st half and were 1 up at half time. The remaining 3 goals were scored in a crazy 10mins at the start of the second half. Both teams missed chances to win it, draw probably fair.

Oh and i got the correct outcome in the Nelson vs Tech game, and got the correct result in the other 3, might go and buy a ticket for lotto!

6 points cover the top 7 sides after 6 rounds with Western and Tech having a game in hand against each other which wouldn't alter the points spread much (well by one point if Western won). Man that is super tight!

Coastal 1 Tech 1   Western 2 Nomads 0

Coastal Tech was an exciting game, 0 0 at half, Coastal get penalty with 15 to go, then Tech come storming back and score in the 89th and could have easily won in in injury time.

Table
                 PTS   GD
Bays        15     16
Western   13       4
Nelson     12       1
Halswell   11       2
ChCh U      9      -9
Coastal      8      -1
Tech           7      -2
Nomads     1      -12

Tech and Western still to play catch up game.

Nomads had two clear chances in both Sat and Todays game to score first all have been awful misses, Adam Nash being the worst an open goal from 4 metres in the first half against ChCh U blazed over the bar.

Next two games for Nomads vs Bays and Nelson.

quite disappointed to see a coach round on the referee immediately after the game  today. Unnecessary and inaccurate as well, the ref did an excellent job and was far and away the best ref I have seen this season.

Quite agree Foal. Unpleasant to say the least. I chatted with the ref a bit later on, he was not happy with it but wouldn't be filing a complaint, just mentioning it in despatches.
The stress of coaching the pre-season favourites only to find the team second bottom in the league after the first round must be getting to him. At least he's consistent, when the team fails to fire he shoots the referee every time.
If the ref did decide to put in a complaint there were plenty of witnesses including Braithwaite's wife and family who were all right there as he went off. A fine example from the coach of the regions premier team, CU Dragons.

I also agree with your assessment of the ref, thought he was definitely one of the better ones so far this season.

The ref for the Nomads v Western game also did well, he and his assistants got most things correct. he didn't go over board with the cards a couple of yellows and talked to players before reaching for his pocket, just like the old days. Sent Tom Sansom off with only a minute to play, you kick out at a player you get a red card and pleasing to see not a grumble from the Western bench afterwards.

Refs should stam out abuse from coaching personel as well as they are doing with players. I carry a pair of ear plugs in my short pocket have told one coach i'd put them in and warned him thay make my poor eyesite worse.

I guess my real problem is you bring the top juniors along to look at a proper game and the Head Coach is swearing and berating the officials. I don't want my sides behaving like this to the ref/line/opposition but kids pick up on what they see. It's disrespectful and ill-disciplined. I'm actually leaning towards FIFA bringing in a 10m talkback rule, ala NRL.

The ref quite rightly YC Coastal midfielder early on. (like first 10 mins). Then we had no more poor tackles for a whole hour.As a spectator this is good.  The penalty (disclaimer: Coastal fan) was clear as day from our vantage point. The opposition coach was poorly placed to view this or comment on it. The delayed reaction YC for the Tech midfielder was excellent reffing, it's those sort of late/impedance tackles/obstruction that stuff attacking football. And the Ref and Eastern side Lino got the late Tech attack offside call correct (not offside) despite the Coastal Fans yelps.

FWIW Tech (C)/(sh)ould of won, and were capable of some quality on the deck/side to side passing. The Ref did not cost them 2 points, the players option taking and execution did. But if the Coach is always at the ref why take responsibility for your own playing?

anyway the Ref was very good. but why will he want to carry on volunteering his time if this is the payback?

I think the big question is what are you doing in South Brighton Park at 12:30 in the morning... Do I need to contact the residents association?

Seeing as noone has done their picks this week have we had enough? I've had enough counting them unless someone else wants to take over. Considering I was ages behind and Cheeko got 4 out of 4 last week I am willing to concede that the game be called a draw.

He always enjoys it, he's an optimistic sort a guy. He'll be sozzled by now asleep in the back of Bazza's truck on the way home. It was a beautiful day in Nelson, unfotunately the football didn't match the weather. Coastal well beaten, 2-0 down after 7 minutes and struggling with the pace of Donga (got player of the day) and Feni. A goal back after 15 and looking more comfortable Coastal gained parity before half time only to concede a 2nd half killer third goal just after they should have converted 2 decent chances of their own. Suburbs then showed their true worth with a couple of classy efforts to finish.  Entertaining game but the football was uneven with some awful periods interspersed with some classy stuff, mainly from Suburbs. Boys very subdued on the flight home (all except Danny Moir) knowing they were way better than that performance and Kouroch already working on a revised master plan for the next trip in seven weeks. Look out United next Saturday! Very entertaining Nelson College v Suburbs reserve side followed.

The top of the table starts to spread a bit with Halswell kicking Western's ass, apparently Bays were damn lucky to get up over luckless Nomads while Tech, Coastal & United struggling to break out of the bottom half of the table.

Back from the big trip to Nelson and all in all was well worth it. Game was a goal fest unfortunately not Coastal's way. Nelson scored from almost every opportunity and after being 2-0 down after 5 min it looked like it was going to get ugly. Coastal did get back into the match and had a few chances but just didn't put them away. Nelson surely did and deserved the 5-1 win. Makes the league heaps interesting!

Looking at the draw, there are 21 rounds which works nicely with 8 team league playing the other 7 teams 3 times. Why then over the next month or so do we have byes?

Tis late and I'm tired and brain failing.

Agreed. All 5 byes involve ChCh United, the first 4 as the team missing from the draw and the last one as the team receiving the bye while Halswell take their place as the team left off the draw. Crazy.

Foal30 has come up with the suggestion that it has something to do with Utd not having a ground and them not knowing what field to play on as yet. Will be updated at a later time? Sort of makes sense in the crazy world of Mainland Football.
