up to participate in any National Association team training camp, fixture or
tour under the control of NZF, the club can apply to its District Federation
or to NZF, where appropriate, for dispensation to postpone any games that
may occur whilst these players are on national duty or such other
dispensation as NZF may agree in writing in its sole discretion. In the event
of any dispute the granting of any dispensation shall be at the sole discretion
of NZF.
I think Coastal had 2 accepted last year for the very same reason.Ronaldoknow2011-07-02 22:53:02
And I love the way they state "NZF may agree.... and in any dispute, it's NZF's decision"
Just have a call from mate in Dunedin HT at the Chatham Cup and all locked up.

Coastal Spirit 4 (Ash WELLBOURN 41, Tristan NICOL 62; Gareth TURNBULL 67, 80)
yeah Paul Bateson was playing for Coastal today
hope he didn't get sent off. He's a top bloke and puts a heap of time into junior coaching. A good club man.
Certainly was the evil Mr Bateson. In front of one of his kanga Cup kins and all. Ref apologised after the game for getting it wrong, at worst it was a yellow card if anything. That's footy though.
I was 4th off today. He got sent for a wack on the back. It was definetly a red, in hindsight the cavey guy should have been sent too because the wack was retaliation for something he did, but the first indicent was not sighted.

Was never a red. Ref should have handled it better. Strangely enough Coastal played their best football for the next 20 minutes.

The free header from the corner? That certainly wasn't from open play. Most of the other opportunities arose from Coastal adopting a 3 2 4 formation once Batesy got sent which opened up the game hugely.
Agree mostly, Coastal were always behind the 8 ball with poor passing contributing to an average 1st half performance but there was a large chunk at the start of the 2nd half where we actually dominated even if it was a different style of footy to Cavy's. Made for a very entertaining game. Quite happy with where we are at from a Coastal point of view, game was a good opportunity to measure ourselves against quality opposition from out of our own area. good crowd to. Not bad for our first year in with the big boys. Will only get better.Ronaldoknow2011-07-03 23:29:45
Rab Smith did a write up for it. You can find it here

If we're going to nit pick, Hughesy just got out-jumped. Certainly not 1999 anymore.

Gives new meaning to the term "Bateson on the ball" doesn't it?

Never picked nits in my life.
Hughesy was leg weary by then, gravity had taken its toll. More of an issue is what's Leithal doing at the post? Shouldn't he be inside it? Thought that at the time during the game, better positioning would certainly have enhanced his chances of preventing the ball going in the net. Ronaldoknow2011-07-04 17:17:00

RK, yeah Todd was a ball boy! funny how things work out. He made the otago side so he's seeing some of the boys again late July in Ashburton
Quite a few displaced Chch people in the crowd. Had a chat with Liana, also Phil Beale who used to play at New Brighton 4 -5 years back.
Everyone's taller than the Cavvy keeper, didn't stop him making a couple of superb diving saves mind .
