For those not interested at all:

0-0 with 20 to go and Coastal run rampant to win 3-0 therefore 5-4 on aggregate. Top day of football!

Great result and well done to Coastal on their promotion!

I think Mainland Football and their christchurch constituent clubs just breathed a big sigh of relief! That's an excellent result for coastal, especially after the damage done to their facilities. I wish them good luck next year in the MPL

Well done Coastal Spirit. Good to see that persistence has finally paid off in trying to get back up.

Thanks for the positive feedback. Sure was a mega day and night.

Now the focus turns to who will be relegated to Div 1. Halswell one point ahead so only need a draw on Satdy against Burnside to stay up. Will be interesting.

If Halswell get relegated I'll be rather bemused, but on the plus side it could make selection for the 1st team easier to make.

Trust me. No matter what your thoughts on making the first team are you definitely want a Prem team rather than a Div 1 team.

I've got mates in the Burnside squad so I'll have to put my faith in them. They've been playing some good football lately, and they should have one of their starting centre backs back from injury this week. Will be a close match.

I watched Burnside get thumped 5-0 on the wknd and to be fair they didn't look that good. Definitely a better first half however fell to pieces in the 2nd. And their striker got sent off for a silly challenge so he won't be there next week.

My money is on Halswell staying up.

Halswell have been here several times in recent history. They know what it's about.

Halswell have looked a better bet all season to stay up, have seen them play six times this season.
Burnside will be going to the reserve team for a striker maybe Keith Grovsner will start up front.
Now wouldn't that make a story if Keith gets the winner for Burnside.
Adam Nash and the other lad that was carded on Saturday are suspended Greg Feutz is away for the weekend coaching a Junior team.

Keith G ftw! Is he still playing though? Was a notable absence last time B-side made the trip to the sunshine city.

Yes he's still playing. Started and finished last week against Nelson. Looks like he's wearing a Kappa size 4 shirt however... Not that there's anything wrong with that.

The BIG game is at Warren Park at 2.45 should be a good crowd as only other game on is Nomads v Bays at English Park at 2.45.
I did hear that Bays and Mainland wanted the later game ko at 1pm.
Playing one ater the other at English Park would have helped the numbers watching.

Warren Park is home away from home for us. Halswell is f**ked to put it nicely.

Yeah I've heard about this from friends at both Avon and Burnside. From the sounds of it, Avon are struggling financially. Potentially a good merge imo, will be a massive club. Just wondering what they might call themselves, Christchurch West?

Several years back I'm pretty sure it was Avonside before they split into Avon and Burnside. Then again I think Shamrock became Avon a while back too so can't be totally sure. "Inland Spirit"

Used to be called Burndale when I was a lad in ChCh - the 70s. Very big junior club in those days, but not much cop at senior level. Avon did not exist then, but Shamrock were big on the west side of town, so it makes sense that they became Avon.

I know, I know, its serious!

Riccarton and Shamrock merged to become Avon United
this must be post 1993 as I clearly remember getting a 30 yard volley against Riccarton in that year.

Burndale were big and I think Burnside are the biggest club in the South Island(?)

also some rumors around Cashmere Wanders??

it looks like everyone wants to get on the Coastal bandwagon... but who can blame them.

Also Woolston Tech and Cashmere, merger seems to be the name of the game down here.

So Tech looking to play the first team in Div 1 with Burnside and Avon then seeing as Casnmere are there already. Thats a drop, aye lad.

What do Cashmere offer Woolston Tech that they need to join with that club?

A massive junior club they can pillage to fund their overpaid coaching staff and players, or did over half of Cant Utd end up there 'cos they luv Keith?

Actually good point there about Burnside and Avon both being in Div 1. From what I hear they may not go for a full merger to start with which must make the likes of Mid Canterbury (2nd this year) nervous. Late in the season what's to stop either Avon or Burnside throwing a game or 2 to help the other club out?

was some idle chit chat around Tech no longer wanting the Woolston

regardless, I expect MainlandFootball  to sort this in their usual transparent and balanced manner, there by eliminating any possibility of trouble later down the track.

Wow listen to you rumour-mungers. Yet to have anyone with inside knowledge spill any beans. Why would Tech play div 1 I don't get it???

As I mentioned why would Woolston Tech want to join with Cashmere?
To increase the junior numbers in the club?
More headache's running Juniors than Seniors.
Cashmere and Halswell would be a better fit maybe.
Rumour has it, merger that has been passed in a quick chat between both parties has been between N and W.
They have been combined before in the Junior Premier grades.
May not happen until the later has the centennial year in 2013.

Ooh I mighta heard a wee sniff bout this one too. Seems to be merger is the name of the game down here. Few noses out of joint however.

Both N and W are struggling financially and consequently players are a bit jumpy. W have been looking at the Westminster Sports setup run by the ChCh rugby club but the rugby don't want them at so they need to find somewhere else. To their credit both clubs have been very good at developing local young talent but are finding it increasingly difficult to compete with those that throw money at players. Both clubs have lost numbers in the past couple of seasons and are reliant on the goodwill of a few administrators who have been hard at it for a few years now.

Tech would like to join with Cashmere (possibly the most financial club in the city) to help drive their senior side (all those Dragons don't come cheap). Also sending a team to Napier for the U19's must be a $20k exercise as well? There aim is to win the Chatham Cup next year which would also involve a fair cost for travel particularly now the travelling starts a round earlier.

To take a team to Napier from ChCh should cost between $5k to $6k max.
Depends on how early they got flights, rental vans and motels booked.
Funding for Youth players to go to tournaments is easier to get than senior teams travel costs.

Double that and you would get close. It's roughly $6k for the flights for a starter. Napier is the most expensive place to get to from ChCh flying commercially.

I have taken teams to 2 national schools tournaments and flights are not the costly part of the trip, you book well ahead of the dates or fly charter with Chatham Air if they have a plane/pilots available.
The cheaper way is fly Chch to Wellington and hire two mini vans travel up Friday come back Monday. You need to hire transport in Napier anyway and more options for cheaper rates out of Wellington region.
