Ah, slight problem there. Don't FIFA regs say there must be opportunities for promotion to top regular season league in the region? If Bays, Western, Coa$tal and other MPL sides field a Div 1 team, you won't have any teams able to progress. Having said that most MPL teams want a quality Reserve league, right. Not sure how PDL fits with all this (was meant to be 'promising youngsters' league if i recall. But this hoary old chestnut has been kicking around for years...
Never read the FIFA regs, I thought it was up to each regions admin as to how competitions were administered including any promotion/relegation issues. As for no other teams being able to gain promotion you are forgetting Mid Canterbury, FC Twenty11, Cashmere, Waimak, Universities and Parklands, not to mention Rolleston who are on the rise as well. Bring in the newly merged Nelson team plus Richmond and/or Marlborough, suddenly you have 2 reasonable quality 8 team leagues and a much improved relationship between the Nelson/'Christchurch regions.

To keep the updates going.
Tech may need some new players from Cashmere if reports of their Dragons players resting up over some of the winter is correct JoeM, Kamo, Terris, with Pitman?
Ryan Faichnie to Coastal, not sure who else is moving around.
Should be a bit more gossip at the midweek Dragons-Phoenix A game.
The PDL or what they call it is a farce in it's present format, try telling the Mainland boffins [for want of a word] how the clubs would like the leagues reformatted and they give you the this is how we [Mainland Staff} want it so Lump It.
Who pays your wages MIke C etal?
Bring back Super Youth League.
Nomads maybe waiting for the EQC/Insurance to pay up before getting work done?
Which club you picking to win the 2011 MPL and who will be bottom?
Nelson to win it from either Coastal or Tech. Bottom between Halswell and Nomads unless these last two have an influx of new players.

Yeah PDL is a farce, how can you let 14 teams be in it with 8 in MPL & 7 in div 1 like in 2010, theres no structure to anything. Selwyn were in div 1 until 3 weeks before the season started then Mainland let them swap divs creating a bye..... not smart.
The idea of having Nelson/richmmond teams in div 1 is good in theory but some clubs might struggle with the extra travel costs.

Super Youth turned out to be a farce also. When I started playing youth Halswell had a team in Super Youth and Premier Youth but the next year our Super Youth team got dumped out when it switched to an all High School competition, half of those "Super" sides we would have cleaned up.
edit - and we were the Premier Youth side..timmymadden2011-01-31 09:05:51

Result of google search: domain name 'www.fctwenty11.co.nz' has been registered by Westminster Sports - the home of Western. Looks like Westmonster may be taking on another football club. Interesting.

If that's it:
1. red's a good choice (trad football colour & not too much other red around chch)
2. shield is a recognised football emblem shape
3. the shaking hands is very 'PC' (Mainland will like that; sorry Mainland)
1st impression/ gut reaction though is YUK
Hey but these design jobs aren't always easy, eh?

Nothing to do with Western maybe but Westmonster Sports is the registered address of FC 2011 website domain name. I s'pose Linfield Sports could look fo rmor biz by talking to Parklands, Burwood, Bays and tech/cashmere too?

Very interesting but understandable, they are a pretty good side dare I say it. I did see their star Jordan Yong playing for the Phoenix Reserves tonight against Canterbury however. Not sure what that means.

Comes from a good background in the UK, throw in the Phoenix reserves missing a lot of their players and the fact he lives in Nelson, which is close.
Was wanted by Keith Braithwaite, but was expected to move to Christchurch, find his own place to live and job etc . Which is hard for a British teen who wouldn't know anyone down there.
When he arrived in New Zealand to coach, and play, he was targeting the A-League. Probably didn't have high expectations for the quality of the league.

Aaaah, it all becomes clear. Eddie Cropley, the new CEO of FC2011 works (worked?) as CEO of Westminster Sports (Ch-Ch Rugby Club). Interesting.

Eddie is still listed as CEO on westminster website. If (IF!) the website is up to date it would appear Westminster now have 2 Association Football clubs on their books. Still Christchurch Rugby gets the lions share of pokie money - same as Linwood Rugby right? Still, Linfield will no doubt be ruminating over the possibility of adding members by adding another football club. Interesting times.

I agree. Def Canty Utd, no Clapham or Feni.
Feni is back in Nelson now to train with Nelson Suburbs. Will just join Canterbury Utd on game day.
Oh really. I was thinking that Feni would join Tech this year.

Will the next Feni or Clapham or Nelsen or Rojas be on show this weekend?
Manchester United Premier Cup (Nike Cup) 15th grade at Ascot Green; Saturday and Sunday; 5 x Chch clubs plus one from Nelson.

Keith Braithwaite tries to persuade every player to join tech. Would be much better for the MPL if top players were spread out. But nah the main reason he's back in Nelson is that it's school time again so he's back at Nayland College.

I'm going for Coastal (surprise surprise). Got a heaps good young team (they won the 13th grade in 2010) so will find it a challenge against the older age group but should be a great wknd of football.

No Nelson team in the draw on the Mainland website. Coastal, Halswell, Cashmere, Tech and FC 2011 only teams listed.

That's strange, I thought I saw a Nelson team in one of the draws... I think it was someone random like Tahuna. I could be mistaken.
I got tickets to the cricket final at QE2 so will be able to migrate between winter and summer sports!

Tahunanui is now part of FC Nelson. Tahunanui is one of the strongest junior clubs in Nelson football. Canterbury youth players Coey Turipa and Billy Scott and Team Wellington youth player Joel Weichern all starred for Tahunanui back in the day.
