Nelson Suburbs midfielder Alex Ridsdale makes New Zealand U17s. Haven't seen a full squad anywhere but he said there was another five from the South Island

I have taken teams to 2 national schools tournaments and flights are not the costly part of the trip, you book well ahead of the dates or fly charter with Chatham Air if they have a plane/pilots available.
The cheaper way is fly Chch to Wellington and hire two mini vans travel up Friday come back Monday. You need to hire transport in Napier anyway and more options for cheaper rates out of Wellington region.

True, been there done that both ways, charter is fine if you don't get diverted to New Plymouth and then have to bus across the island!
Costs form Dunedin are even worse.
Booking ahead is ok except the Moteliers in Napier know the tournament dates as well funnily enough and hard to get a real discount at that time of year. How much money have they made out of Football over the last 20 years?

Had a chat with a couple of people over the weekend at the Tsunami tournament, not much chance of it happening for next season. Mid Canterbury fancy there chances for promotion next season also.

Automatic promo again next year with the 2012 season format to be reviewed by Mainland. Most of the MPL clubs I think are more into the playoff format and as Mainland are always going on about improving the game, what do they do if the winner of Div 1 is a crap team in a crap league?

Mainland Football should sort out the PDL league and go back to a MPL Reserve League with the teams in Div 1 having a their own reserve section or play those teams in what they should be in in Div 2.
Better for the people wanting to watch afew games on a Saturday at the one park without driving all over town to follow a clubs top teams.
Can't Mainland Football see it would be easier alround?
This won't happen because Alan Walker and others at Mainland want to have a team of 19/20 year olds playing Reserve [NO it's PDL] football and they want to give every club that wants to enter the PDL league no matter how bad they maybe a chance to get thrashed by the likes of Tech or Western. go figure.

Agree with all of that PM. Word from our man at the MPL meeting last night was that all 7 ChCh MPL teams wanted the Reserve League to mirror the MPL with Reserve teams kicking off at 12:30 and the Academy team filling the Nelson Suburbs spot but Mainland wouldn't have a bar of it, wouldn't even minute the discussion. Bollocks. Told to focus on ball kids and programmes and try and improve facilities ffs. Some very pissed off clubs in ChCh. More time spent on the makeup of masters Div 1 in the lower leagues meeting the week before than on the Reserve/PDL league.

Found this at the bottom of Avon United's home page -

REMINDER:NEXT COMMITTEE MEETING - TBA
Tell your favourite committee member you want to stay Green. Don't support the Burnside takeover.

Looks like Avon have their fair share of nay sayers. Must be quite happy to spend the rest of their lives in Div 1!

It's not really auto playoff as the winner of Div 1 has to play the winner of Nelson region or even West Coast. And as Coastal found out last year that is never a pushover. I would have thought that the PL sides were more keen on the auto promo as that was the decision that was most recent. Not that it should be only up to the PL sides to make that decision, as they will just protect their own backsides.

I like the idea of a PDL side, gives the younguns a chance to show their stuff, and I also like the idea of a reserve side too, obviously the two don't quite fit perfectly.

as for Mainland... every season brings wheeling and dealing around comp structures. I'm over it for sure. you can't please all the people all the time

it's the Academy set up for juniors that annoys the hell out of me

Mainland Football hit the jackpot again!!
They and the contractors have stuffed up the tender process for the new English Park [ASB Stadium] pitch. The overseas contractor pulled out when they found out that GST was to be paid in NZ.
We may yet be playing on a dirt track next year.

Don't forget the Council and FIFA were involved as well, no wonder it turned to custard. Tender is being relet, and GST has just increased to 15%. Will it happen?

Can someone clarify for me what the ruling was at the U19 comp on guest players? Was each team allowed three? and is it any difference if the player is a guest from another team that was competing?

Cheers

The rule was 3 guest players in total, whether they came from school teams or other clubs was irrelevant. If they came from another club that also attended the tournament then they needed to be released (read not selected) by their club in writing. We know this was an issue for one Nelson player registered with Richmond but playing for Suburbs and was clarified during the tournament with Richmond. This will be strictly enforced for next season, players selected to play for a club they are registered with cannot turn that club down then turn out for another club unless their original club decides not to select them and releases them in writing to play for the other club!

PDL/Reserve league seems to get younger and younger, that mainland academy team was U/16?

Mainland might as well put the 6 secondary schools 1st XIs that play saturdays into PDL and scrap 18 div 1 in its current format. most of the clubs skip 18s so in order to develop all young players equally its surely a wise and fair move for all...

Gings yes you are correct.
That team was made up of a lot of the Nomads United U15 age players from 2009 that won the U17 grade div one in 2009. As you may know both teams coached by Danny Halligan.

About synchronizing the Reserve with the Premier League, I think there are plans on the table for a southern league, including Dunedin teams, to be played at the back end of the season. So that would bugger the draw for the reserves up anyway.

Having the MPL and Reserve leagues playing the same would not impact on any south Island Comp. The same number of teams and games would be played in both cases before a SI playoff.

Nomads United have a new coaching team for the 2011 season.
Dan Harris and DT will be leading a group of 7 to oversee the MPL and PDL teams restructure.
This is after a sub par performance last year by both teams.
They need to get more of the Youth players back that they had playing at the club under Danny Halligan.

Men's Premier Team Head Coach Announced

29/11/2010

Coastal Spirit Football Club is excited to announce the appointment of Korouch Monsef as the clubs First Team Coach for the upcoming 2011 season.

Monsef, who has been involved with Canterbury United senior mens and youth teams over the past 5 seasons, will replace Mick Curry at the helm and lead the newly formed club in its inaugural season in the Matsons Premier League.

Coastal Spirit gained promotion for next season after defeating Nelson club Richmond Athletic 5-4 on aggregate in the 2 leg promotion play-off series.

Monsef looks forward to heading a coaching staff that will include the clubs Football Development Manager, Gareth Turnbull, as Assistant Coach/Conditioner and club stalwart Paul Hughes.

Monsef claims the focus for the upcoming year will be on establishing a strong senior team culture and strengthened playing squad, which is capable of competing comfortably within the mens premier league environment. We also have a number of talented youth players at the club which we will be looking to gradually introduce as the season gains momentum.

A much bigger challenge for the club in the coming years will be to harness the support of the Linfield Sport group to continue to develop even better programs and services for both players and coaches to reach their goals. Both Linfield and CSFC have been very supportive in investing in our coaches network and scholarship program over the past 18 months. We are hoping that through our coaching network we will be able to retain and up-skill our best club coaches to create a natural succession plan for both men and women within the club

It's an exciting yet important year for the club, as we must ensure that we continue to build on the framework and development projects that have been installed over the past three years, as well as ensuring we solidify our place in the MPL for futures seasons added FDM Gareth Turnbull.

The club is also in a unique and fortunate position within our demographic to align ourselves with the new NZF Whole of Football Plan immediately, to ensure continuity and intent to willingly grow the game in line with the structures set down by New Zealand Football.

The club will begin pre season training in early January, building into the pre season tournament it hosts annually in February/March, which will be held at Linfield Park for the first time.

For more information the clubs invites you to contact Gareth directly on [email protected] or 389 3007.

Might end up with more than their fair share given DT's Assistant Coach role with the Dragon's youth team and Danny running the academy team in the PDL this year. Might need them as well, as they have been haemorrhaging players in the past 2 seasons which put them on the slippery slope toward relegation before a late rally saw them safe. Halswell yet to announce their appointment but most other clubs seem set to go.
Merger between Avon and Burnside got the go ahead from both clubs, Avon meeting was fairly testy. Mid Canterbury have signed a couple of stars for next year as well so Div 1 will be no walk in the park either.

Coach ed job could be interesting - can't see how it can be done part time though given the requirements on their website. Good to hear they have new people on their board, new blood is usually good for any club with fresh ideas and enthusiasm.
Cashmere and Tech are talking because Tech have no grounds when the Woolston Working Men's club sells Garrick Park for development while for Cashmere it's about the only way they can make it back to the Premier League unless it expands.

Apparently they have signed Tony Gumley (Western) for 2011. Western in trouble with Stu Minton and Ray Parks both standing down from the committee?
Obviously Tony will take a few of the boys with him. Interesting.
