Yes I had heard that TG was not at Western next year but didn't get the Burnside/Avon titbit.
Parklands are looking to make the MPL at end of next season with a new President pushing the boat, he was seen speaking to Tom Batty at the Dragons home game v Hawkes Bay.

Parklands have been pushing for the past couple of years with the likes of Gavin Jeffs and Steve Hill but can't attract enough decent players to get them up the table. Every time they get close players start to leave. If they can get a decent squad it would be good for Div 1 which is looking a bit thin with the Burnside/Avon merger. Hopefully they can do it without promising money all over the place.

One person asking how they will fare without key personnel from the past 3 years = everyone writing them off
Western are a good club and like all of us face different challenges from time to time, as you say I think they will be fine, I certainly hope so.
The league will certainly be interesting next year with one new team, at least 3 new coaches, Nelson Suburbs looking to lift the ante and some clubs yet to announce appointments with pre-season just a month away.
And check your keyboard, something up with the "s" key, or does the $ sign refer to the fact Coastal actually pay coaches and administrators for some of the time they put into the sport (like every other club)?

Terribly sorry, didn't realise i was posting on the coastal spirit fan forum.

It was the quotes "Looks like things going South at Western" and the "western in trouble" that i was replying to.

It wasn't a cheap shot with the $, just a bit of banter about the fact that coastal aren't short of a few bob.  I have no idea what you do with your money and don't really care.

You guys will be good for the league and improve the standard.  Would think you'll be challanging this season and hope western are too.

Sorry if i offended you but it wasn't meant.

All the best for the season

And mine was a summary of others, along with a play on words with South and West. Nothing sinister I promise.

Thomas Frey has been re appointed head coach of Halswell, he took over towards the end of last season when there was a bit of unrest in the squad with the former coach.

Richmond Athletic have signed Ben Wright who was playing for League Two signed Macclesfield Town just last year. Only 30 years-old and has scored against Europa League side Chelsea before for Viking FK in the UEFA Cup.

Really depends on where you are living in regards to viable clubs

If you have played Central League - you could probably foot it in the Mainland League.
To be honest the qualifying league below that has about 2 good teams, 2 mediocre ones and a bunch of sh*te. The depth isn't flash

Seems as though this is the MPL of last year. Lets hope we get a better comp this season.
At least Halswell have a full match video analysis of how bad you can be.

So what is the transfer goss now that teams are back training?
I'll get it going.
Ryan Faichnie to Coastal S.
Matt Cox to Christchurch United after he recovers from his broken leg.

How many others are leaving Woolston Tech?
Keith has been busy chasing a couple of additions with at least one from Burnside.

It's true, and apparently democratically voted in. Would've been better to go back to an historical name, i.e Shamrock.

Reported in the Nelson Mail that Coey Turipa is heading to Brisbane to play for Redlands Bay after the ASB Premiership. Eddie Newman, who was at Suburbs for half the season last year, is not returning. So Nelson Suburbs are on the look out for a new keeper.

Adam Smith will be leaving midseason after earning a US Scholarship.

Alex Ridsdale will be moving to Auckland with the NZ U17 squad.

Paul Seaman is apparently helping scout Nelson some new players from the Otago ASB Premiership side, Phill Ruggles is a name been thrown about.

Nelson captain Matthew Elliott is unlikely to return this season.

In the Chatham Cup game against Richmond, I swear it was played in Richmond's half the whole game. Offered nothing on attack. It will take a lot to surpass Suburbs. Also, Gagame Feni finally gets to play a whole season after only a couple of matches at the end of last season. Just need a decent target man to play alongside him up front. Adam Smith will be a huge loss, but still there until August.

Club website review:
Avon United website may have been taken down; couldn't find it anywhere
Bays have appointed Jose Matiz to junior coaching role
Tech have voted to create a "new joint entity" with Cashmere for 2012
Nomads desperately short of helping hands to fix Tullet Park goalposts

Other goss:
FC2011 (is that a postcode?) desperate for people to join the committee
Coa$tal clubhouse to be rebuilt as "$tate of the art" football centre

Avon Seniors were dead set against the merger and are really septic about it, it was the juniors (marshalled by FDM Tsetso) who got it across the line. Maybe why their website has been taken down?
Tech and Cashmere Wanderers gets a bit tricky, Tech are all for it but the poor people of Cashmere are wary their large, affluent junior club will be plundered to run the seniors.
Bring on the "$tate of the art" Coa$tal football centre .

With all the mergers (present and proposed) football in ChCh is going to look quite different in a couple of years. Will really put the pressure on the smaller stand alone clubs like Western, Bays, Halswell, Nomads and ChCh Utd. With FC Twenty11, Mid Cantebury and Richmond all strong contenders for promotion this year, Cashmere possibly defunct in 2012 and Waimak Utd getting stronger every year what are the chances of returning to a 10 or 12 team league in the near future?

Halswell a "small stand alone club"? i don't think so. Huge player base (prob as big as CashTec combined) and taking over Hornby too I hear.

Re 10-12 team league: is a weaker MPL good for the game?

Coa$tal website review: PA$$ only I'm afraid: messy homepage banner; navigation menu ok; needs more content on sub pages; BUT bouquet for keeping it up to date.

Taking over Hornby? Oh f**k we're done for... they'll only bring us down.

I left Hornby for Halswell when I was 16 to play Premier Youth (Hornby didn't have one.)

Mergers left right and center. Be interested to know how the new FC Nelson will go. They are a merger of Tahunanui, Nelson United, Nelson City and Metro. Which could mean every team in the lower divisions of Nelson football is either FC Nelson, Nelson Suburbs or Richmond Athletic.
FC Nelson will play in a blue and white striped kit similar to Argentina, but represents the colours of the Nelson flag.
If they make Mainland, and possibly their top team, will play at Trafalgar Park.

Ah, slight problem there. Don't FIFA regs say there must be opportunities for promotion to top regular season league in the region? If Bays, Western, Coa$tal and other MPL sides field a Div 1 team, you won't have any teams able to progress. Having said that most MPL teams want a quality Reserve league, right. Not sure how PDL fits with all this (was meant to be 'promising youngsters' league if i recall. But this hoary old chestnut has been kicking around for years...

Allowing a decent high school to enter could be a way to get more teams in, only problem is you wouldn't be able to represent school and your regular club in competition. Also the squad would change every year or two.
