One thing the would be helpful to MPL clubs is if Mainland had a list of which players are still regarded as an international or imports each season that way clubs would know if the opposition had more than three imports involved in the game - either on the park or the bench.

True AW82.

They keep cracking on how clubs are struggling to attract volunteers but do nothing to assist - they should leave the football development to the clubs and help clubs get their admin and volunteer base sorted. We can't all follow the Mainland model and rort our members to pay for poor service!

Good on the guy at Varsities for putting his hand up over the ineligible player in the recent Chatham Cup debacle (I note Eddie Cropley @ FCDiv12014 took quite a different stance), his rationale was quite reasonable - as a volunteer administrator in a large club it's a struggle to cover all the bases.

Check the card!

There's bound to be an illegal alien or a 15 year old without written permission from his parents to play senior football on one of the team cards.

Where does it say that? Still has them on sporting pulse website. I'll be sad if they do.

0-0 HT.  Selwyn up 1-0 scoring from the spot.  Waimak responded with a good header from a corner.  Then into the last minutes of the game scored again from a corner from a botched clearance.

Just for the record - I was playing for Selwyn tonight - I'm tired and broken old man tonight, but from my point of view - Selwyn played bloody well compared to recent results.  I shall now go pass out somewhere and wonder how I"m going to walk tomorrow. (ssssoooo very fast)

Quite dIfferent lineup from earlier encounters. Apparently coach walked out on them last week after string of bad results, and club (only now?) seeking input from Allen and mcMahan. Both at the game which was being recorded. From what I have seen and heard of them in Waimak quality coaches that know their stuff. Odd they haven't been involved yet, maybe more focused on juniors? Clinics they are running in Waimak for youth players are making a marked difference already, and will benefit senior teams. Promotion to MPL 2014? Especially since looks like Uni will lose points despite falling outside 7 day rule introduced last year. Good to see Mainland forced to get off their r's!

Yeah line up was different with a couple of the Div 3 players being called in to change it up a bit.  Coach of Div 1 stepped back as you've said - the results weren't going well (bottom of the table) and decided that instead of everything staying the same and getting same results to let someone else have a crack at it and see what happens.

Waimak are part of the Burnley set up, right? Likewise Selwyn? Nomads? But Martin and Graham coaching seniors only at Waimak? How is the whole Burnley thing going for clubs?

Selwyn, Waimak and Green Island in Dunners ended up as host clubs, but players do not have to be associated with them to participate. Bit of a delay in second coach getting to Chch, but from what I gather going pretty well. Good to see an option out in the sticks for those that can't get to or decided FTC was not for them. The clinic for the older age group was an afterthought rather than part of the initial plan, but Waimak has good numbers and together they worked out a model to suit. User pays yes, but so far MF has come up with very little/no alternative.

Why would it be a real shame? They played an ineligible player and broke the rules.

Western PDL made a similar 'honest mistake' in the first game of the season and were docked 6 points. If Mainland stick by that rule then the uni will have a negative points total.

As per regulation 2.5 of the rules (which are so poorly written it isn't funny!)

"In the case of a team playing an unregistered or ineligible player. The offending team shall be fined and shall forfeit any points arising from any match in which an ineligible player participates. The match shall be awarded to the non-offending team, “goals against” shall stand for the offending team, “goals for” shall be cancelled, or a 3 (three) – 0 (nil) win awarded whichever is the greater. + 3 competition points
deducted"

Unless everyone missed the "honest mistake" out-clause, this means Universities will start round 2 on negative points.

It is a real shame, as don't think they set out to cover anything up - just highlights the lousy system in place which MF tried to band-aid over instead of addressing properly in the first place.

Sorry to change subject but just saw this on facebook:  https://www.skysport.co.nz/article/general/headlines/sky-tv-gives-1m-to-christchurch-64561/

So Tech are getting another $200,000 for their fields. Along with the millions already spent on it.  Seem fair?

Rules are rules so really the only outcome that could happen,. Looking back the Div 1 games played the teams that will be awarded games 3 - 0  and 3 points will be (in order of games played) ChCh United, Selwyn, Hornby, Cashmere Technical, FC Twenty11 so I make the Cashmere Technical would be on top of the table, with 14 points, Waimak 13, ChCh United 10, Mid Canty 8, FC 9 and so on.

Div 1 Ladder updated:  Uni now at bottom of table with -12points and a -13 GD.  Thats their season toast.

Changes United's fortunes a bit.

Waimak - 13 pts

CTFC  - 13

United - 10

FC2011 - 9

MidCant - 8

Hornby - 7

Selwyn - 4

Uni - -12

The big question is -

Can Selwyn hold on to 7th spot?

Trialist

It is ridiculous to think that all the hard work that the players have put in this season has been ended by this decision. In the end it has come from a club which stands to benefit the greatest from this decision. I find it hard to believe that a club would go to the lengths they have in order to have a better chance of gaining promotion, not within the spirit of the game whatsoever! Those I know in the squad have said the squad are determined to fight on and show they are the bigger men in all of this.  At the end of the day I'm sure everyone is aware who is head and shoulders the best team in the league..

It appears University have 7 days to appeal which they will be doing. What is this 'honest mistake' clause you talk of Ronaldo?

Was just working that out.  If Uni win next 7 games (I think thats right) they get to 9 pts.  So Selwyn needs to win 2 or at least 3 games to stay above Uni.  Big ask on current form - but something to aim for now.

Could be more points deducted from clubs -

here is a list of the women's golden boot after the weekends games. Note in particular Coastal have been playing 2 Lauren Dabner's while Western have 2 Milly Conner's, how illegal is that?

Golden Boot

8 Monique Barker (Cashmere Technical)

6 Aimee Phillips (Western)

5 Leekha Diesling (Cashmere Technical), Mikayla Wieblitz (Cashmere Technical), Milly Conner (Western)

4 Jemma Dockerty (FC Twenty11), Lauren Dabner (Coastal Spirit), Milly Conner (Western), Tess Lewis (Cashmere Technical)

3 Gabrielle Brodie (Western), Lauren Dabner (Coastal Spirit), Leigh Alexander (Cashmere Technical)

Not me brother, no such thing as an honest mistake in my book, unless of course I make it :)

Here is the 7 day rule from Mainlands regulations -
Section 5: Competitions New changes for 2012 (12 to 19)
13. Appeal against team playing ineligible player: “timeframe can only appeal up
to mid day Friday prior to next game, and only for the previous game”
I'll be interested to find out when the original appeal went in (from FC2011 by the way and subsequently from ChCh Utd and Mid Cant).

Surely it would have to have been within 7 days of the very first league game?
Note that FC2011 subsequently withdrew their appeal only for the other 2 to shove the knife back in.

This is happening all over the show, I'm sure if Uni have any say in this that this is just the start of things! Be very interested to see how things play out.. My personal view is the points should stay, the poor lad has put his hand up already saying it was an honest mistake. Leave it on the field

I'm not sure of that to be honest mate, I have been told that the complaints did come after the original complaint by FC therefore 7 days after there last league game. It appears Mainland have investigated this complaint after the 7 days, then decided to throw in the player must be registered rule..

Now that rule seems to totally contradict this one -

Section 6: Team Cards
5. Team cards for all divisions/grades after being correctly filled and signed shall
stay with the club unless, (1) there is a dispute regarding the score, (2) player
eligibility or (3) incident. If any of these has occurred the team card has to be in
the hands of Mainland Football within 48 hours of the said game.

So if the dispute comes to Mainland say Wednesday afternoon (still within the 7 days but outside the 48 hours) clubs technically don't have to hand the card over? Why on earth would they let the cards stay in the hands of the clubs unless their was a dispute? Ahhhhh, money! Remember how all teams got prepaid team cards that had to be posted by the day after the game or you risked getting the club fined for late cards? That's why we have such ridiculous rules, we need $800,000 in the bank and a pointless competition with clubs getting by hoping no-one picks up on their mistakes. It's such a simple game.

Well they may be in trouble if they do because clearly they will be in breach of their own rule regarding the 7 day time limit on any appeal. If it was me I wouldn't let it slide. Varsities should get their paper work in order, ask to see Mainland Footballs paper trail and appeal the decision. they have good grounds.
