Here's interesting facts from a mate in Wellington and how Capital Football run it.

Capital Football do not check cards, trouble only ensues if an opponent complains or (in the most recent case) the player gets booked. Wairarapa will lose their one point they earned when they drew with Wests as their player was booked and it turned out he wasn't legal.

Teams have 7 days to complain, and the punishment is not backdated. Hence they lost 1 point not all of them.  And they certainly don't get an extra 3 points deducted to rub it in.

Thoughts for Uni to mention in the appeal.

So under a Whole of Football Plan, why are the rules so vastly different? Do they need to be? MF's rules are an absolute mess. Reading  through them they are nothing more than a hacked around butchered disjointed shambles. Something their two new lawyer board members can get their teeth into. I feel for the Uni guys - always been very sporting on and off the park. They do not deserve this.

The rules state that the team shall be deducted 3 points if they play an illegal player. It doesn't specify whether the points are earned legally or illegally. In each case, regardless of using an illegal player Varsities won the 3 points, surely they can only be deducted those 3 points? This was the case previously with Halswell and Coastal in the MWPL a few years ago. Mainland may be in a spot of bother. They need to be consistent at the very least.

What ever the ponts deducted end up at it's a shame on Varsity and on the standard of administration they have.

It take a couple of seconds to login and see who is registered at your club at any given time of the year. What is the team manager for if not getting these things in order before season starts.

Never take anything for granted when dealing with Mainland Football always double check and get it in writing/email with a name on it.

Some clubs break the MPl rules week in week out and nothing happens. This is and old gripe for several clubs so maybe Mainland have decided to get tougher and this will be the start. Let's hope so and get the facilities and pitch standards the next going over.

On that point I see the Otago Daily Times SPL [nice to see the local paper getting involved] playing a couple of games at Fosbar stadium each week.

The standed of team getting promoted to next years MPL [if not varsity] will not be good enough to compete in the MPL.

Will give Chch U a boost as from no hope to Div 1 contenders within a week, they have to play Waimak twice and could go top after Friday game, for 20 hours anyway.

Waimak are part of the Burnley set up, right? Likewise Selwyn? Nomads? But Martin and Graham coaching seniors only at Waimak? How is the whole Burnley thing going for clubs?

Nomads pulled out of Burnley I hear, as for reason I would be uninformed to state it. Not that that normally stops me but.

Here's more goss: Tsetso is not going to APFA, he simply got the chop from the top job as it wasn't going well points wise, he was spending too much of his paid time on the role, too many people were leaving (thus losing money), and it was making for a very unhappy club. Sounds like APFA have bought in someone from overseas now.

Tony G is stepping in the meantime, but not for long as it's a sinking ship. Speaking of which Paris K has taken over their women's team and started with a loss to bottom of the table Universities.

Well what can you say about them wanting to be a big club then, maybe they like the numbers over quality.

Will Nelson need to bring swimming togs and gum boots to play Bays at Barnett Park on Sunday?

ASB Park is booked for a  game at 2.30 on Sunday.

Weather forecast shows sunny for the next 5 days so we shouldn't have any cancellations.

Not sure if you can see the lines on many pitches, best the council get busy tomorrow marking them.

Yea right. The council contract the line marking to City Care who employ 2 people to mark approx 280 winter sports fields in the city. Best clubs buy there own line markers.

I believe that Uni are mounting an appeal against what has happened and is asking for support from clubs (most likely the ones that didn't protest/support)  Will be interesting to see what happens.

I think getting -12 points is stupidly harsh and at least the should move to 3 points.

Robbie’s Division 1 leaders
Universities have been stripped of  competition points and have now plummeted
from top to bottom of the competition ladder as a consequence of playing an
ineligible player round 1 through round 5.

Mainland Football CEO Mike Coggan
expressed his disappointment in having to enforce the competition rules. “No one
and least of all Mainland Football want to see any club’s aspirations of playing
in the Federation premier grade evaporate in this manner.  Due to what seems
like an unfortunate clerical error Universities had been playing an unregistered
player for the first five rounds.  The onus is on each club to ensure all
players are registered and members of Mainland Football and NZF.  We have a
responsibility to enforce our match rules in such circumstances.  As sad as it
is, our rules are very clear.  Under competition rules Universities can appeal
the ruling to the Board of Mainland Football and further still to NZF beyond
that”.

Universities have made a very bright
start to the 2013 season winning five games and drawing one.  The player in
question who hadn't transferred from  a previous club has subsequently been
transferred and is now registered to play in Mainland Football competition.  It
will be a big challenge for the students to recover from this and challenge for
the Robbie’s Division 1 title.

Yeah you think???

I think at -12 they will need a miracle not to finish last.  They scored 15 points in 6 games, so need a big effort from the last 8 to get past Selwyn who are currently on 3.

Hope their appeal goes well.

Uni guys: make sure you question Mainland keeping to their own rules and how other federations run things.

Yeah you think???

They are not clear at all. Their own staff initially didn't want to hear about the complaint since it was "outside of the newly introduced 7 day rule". The rules need a good hard look at so everyone knows where they stand

MF get your own house in order before starting to dictate volunteers on how to run their tokos. You have the resources, clubs don't because they sent a large chunk of it to you!

In the junior leagues clubs can have two teams in Div1, if there is a re-grading and say the CTFC div2 team are top and get promoted to Div1. Can this happen in MPL? With CTFC and FC90210 having both div 1 and MPL teams? Only 4 points now between 1st and 4th.

As much as CashTech would love 2 teams in MPL there is deffo a rule around it. Not that rules are adhered to!  It would be funny if FC got relegated and it's 2nd team gets promoted. Bet there isn't a rule around that as it would be random!  Might see the best players from FC (oxymoron) start playing in Div 1 to secure promotion!

Yes ChCh United will sit on top over night at least. Unsure what has happened as was sure the Mainland Website has Waimak on 13 points earlier in the week but now showing as only being on 10????.

Here is what is showing on the table so unless it is wrong looks like Waimak have lost three points for whatever the reason.

Pays to look a bith further, Waimak have has lost three points as well, find this on the Fixture List for Div 1.

Competition Notes * Universities played an ineligible player 1st 5 league games. Scores have been reflected to show 3-0 loss and 3 points deducted for each game.

** Waimak deducted 3 competition points via Disciplinary report

Big game next Friday night at ASB as Uni take on one of the clubs that put the boot into them, ChCh Utd.

Methinks there should be a decent crowd there and a lot of support for the Varsity boys.

I'd say someone is renaming the Selwyn UFC Div 1 to just Selwyn UFC and has made a mess of it.  So Waimak lost their points after the game with Uni then?

Looks that way. 3-0 loss to both teams? Although I think that was the one game Varsity won that they were allowed to keep their points from. Gets crazier and crazier.
