Bloody madness in Div 1 this year - I don't think Ive ever seen it so competitive for teams to get into MPL.

In previous years the tables would always show the on field results with points deducted noted by an asterisk with a note at the bottom of the table explaining the deduction. This was much better and easier to follow than the current set-up which gives a completely false picture and makes it impossible to follow what is going on.
So CTFC top of the table and FC2011 safe from MPL relegation while that remains the case. Varsity, the best side in the league now steering relegation in the face. Unbelievable. Will common sense (and adherence to the correct rules) prevail? I fear not. What a joke.

Not so sure on that idea Ron, that FC2011 are safe from relegation if Tech win Div 1. Don't forget the Nelson option should they want promotion playoff. And seeing as there won't be a playoff they might just go for it. If they can afford it that is.

on this note about FC & tech winning div 1 to save FC from relegation - As Vim says don't forget the winner of the nelson/marlborough & west coast comps can push for promotion. Top team from up the top end (richmond FC at present) could get a free run into MPL if FC or tech win Div 1!!!

oh yeah forgot that, but no free run as they have to play off with bottom MPL team.

Div 1 result from tonight. Into added time ChCh United 4 Waimak 0.

In a way not surprised by the result. I would say tiredness not to do with it, if YF forum to be believed and Waimak docked 3 points for disciplinary measures resulting from Uni game where coach and supporters apparently behaved appallingly, then why would the players want to play for the coach/supporters. The players are the ones putting in the hard effort week in and week out and get landed with -3 points due to supposed dickhead factors on the sideline. I know I wouldn't be likely to give a stuff what the coach tells me the following game and would likely not play as hard as I could either. The players would be demoralised from it all. No way before all this happened that Chch Utd 4-0 better than Waimak
Having played the 1st game of the year against them, their supporters are pretty vulgar and unkempt at times, probably the worst I have come across at all the Chch teams. However since they smoked us on the scoreboard what was I going to do about it?! In a way doesn't surprise me if they lost the plot when losing a game, if they were like the way they were after winning 6-0!

So you never played against Woolston Tech as it was then? If you think Waimak are bad.
Chatting to a CashTech bod last week he reckons they have calmed down a lot since WT days.

Did the play off get brought in? thought it was only a Div 1 vs Nelson div 1 play off - I've probably missed one of the announcements

Sorry confusion reigns, my bad. The bottom MPL side is automatically relegated. The promoted side comes from a playoff between the winners of the Nelson/Marlborough, West Coast and Christchurch Div 1 leagues. That is of course if they notify their intent to compete which I think has to be done within 48 hours of winning the league. Previously Richmond have declined the offer due to costs whilst West Coast have never bothered. If that scenario plays out again this year that leaves Christchurch. So what happens if CTFC win it? They can't be promoted due to having a team already in the MPL and only the winning Div 1 club can enter the play offs to gain promotion. Dear oh dear :(

OK just because ive had a few wines and it is the season for bizarre happenings, how about this: most likely winner of div 1 is that Tech team (plenty of MPL/canty united experience amongst that lot). is their only motivation winning the div? Could they be "tempted" to transfer en masse? are they for sale? 30 June approaches; a number of clubs are desperate; would it be an opportunity to stick it up tech MPL? Tune in next week for bizarre tales from canterbury football. Or just keep an eye on the tables and transfers pages!

That is a great response from the Uni lads, well done, looking forward to next Friday night against United at ASB.

In the women's knockout cup Cashmere beat Halswell 2-1 after extra time while Coastal thrashed Western 1-0 on an undersized pitch totally unsuitable for a game of that caliber :)

From the uni vs waimak game a waimak player has been suspended for 9 months for shoving the ref after the game after being sent off ( hes a repeat offender) & their coach stood down for 2 games for wanting to fight ref, supporters abusing the tefs then the refs get shut out of changing rooms. Great look for a MPL challenging club!

In the Cashmere Technical programme today had "Welcome everyone to Garrick Memorial Park ...... . Also a special welcome to their new coach Stu Bola....". Tony Gumley was still running the side as some of the FC lads said Stu was not at the game as his partner was due to give birth.

I see that Hornby beat the ol Turtles in Div 1 yesterday as well.  Keeping United top of the Table after the game in the first round. Very tight in there now.

Mid C- Uni game not updated - but positions won't really change.

Some things never change I guess.. Lets hope uni get there points back and sit where the rightfully belong, after yesterday's spanking it's pretty obvious they have resilient bunch of guys with all that's been happening off the field.

Yes and 4 good goals as well for Suburbs. The first and overhead kick from Skippy, with Ben Wright, before the break with Maciel?? and Connell off the bench to score into the second half.

Going down by 4 goals see's Bays drop to third: Suburbs 22, Tech 21, Bays 21, Western 19, Coastal 13, Halswell 10, Nomads 7, FC 2.

Big game next Saturday in Nelsin with Suburbs facing Technical. With Coastal putting Shield in the line against Bays Western celebrating the 100 year against FC Twenty11 with Nomads taking on Halswell - could be key game at the bottom.

Good result for FC Nelson. Draw for the next round will have to be done quickly as next round next Monday - Queen's Birthday.

Will one the 3 ChCh side be heading north or FC Nelson have to head south??

He has returned for work (completing an apprenticeship?) and needs to be there to be selected by team Wellington ('cos he won't make the Dragons). Saturday was his last game at Coastal by all accounts.

Some of the coaches are the same in the 15th Grade Waimak team and just as bad!

Pre-season Waimak had a player run on and get involved in an on pitch altercation, and the ref bottled it and let him away with it... oh hang on it was their own tournament!
