Believe what you want. I can guarantee everything I said in my last post. And given Richmond's previous form of paying players with dodgy dealings, I think the balance of the jury must be in my favour.

Sounds like Coastal Spirit have been trying to poach a lot of Nelson based players. Do you guys know which player they tried to get from Richmond? Because the english lads come to the club for reasons other than money.

He came to us wanting to play, not the other way round. Kids have stuck with us through the years of Div 1 and are now better for it having had the pride of helping us gain promotion. And yes I know the player but this isn't the forum to name and shame.

that's right, it's the forum to throw round scurrilous accusations of poaching.

how about the forum get back to more about the football & not the politics, the only people who really know what is going on in clubs are the people who are actually doing the work to make their clubs better, the rest is generally gossip that grows as the story goes round! reddevil112011-02-21 21:48:06

Ok, I'm fine with that. I will however correct ridiculous accusations of us poaching and paying when inside a glasshouse.

Can anyone report what any of the grounds are like around Chch?

Be interesting if they rebuild that track or start somewhere new. I guess it depends on the state of the grandstand.

Not sure at this stage, I'm from Selwyn but early guess work suggests Halswell Domain and Bexley are out due to liquifaction. Sadly Halswell's other 'home' gounds Westlake and Warren Park (which is actually Hornby's ground) have likely suffered the same fate. Linfield park is also highly doubtful. I checked the mainland site last night and there was no media release then. Can't really comment on anywhere else as I've only been to southern parts of the city.

And just putting it out there, we likely wont hear from anyone from the Coastal part of town for a while as it's more or less under water. A lot of homes are unlivable in that area including my uncle who is a feverite. I haven't spoken to him personally so wont give a name but some here will probably know by that description. timmymadden2011-02-24 21:27:56

Yes you will probably see the Coastal Fan Club as it has been called in previous times drop off due to no power or water.  I'm over at the whanau catching up on all the missed news.

Yes Bexley looks more like a golf course and the gym will most definitely have to come down.  Linfield didn't look too bad from the road but other reports were that it wasn't so good up close.

Will put a pic up when I have the time.

Good to hear you're safe Vim. Duffy, this is not the thread for this but I was standing almost directly above that 'wee shake'.  I have just heard from Halswell president that ALL FOOTBALL IS POSTPONED until further notice.

Just typical innit.   Instead of feeding the distasteful troll I will merely state that Coastal (the team that doesn't pay their players but still gets a $ sign in their name while Richmond has had a dirty track record of doing) won that playoff match 3-0 and is now in the Premier League.

Perhaps we could start up a thread for the Nelson Div 1 so your comments can be read in all their lies and hurt there.

As I recall, Duffy, the club sent it's team north minus 1 player less than 5 hours after the "small" shake on September 4th and the deferred return game in ChCh was nothing to do with Coastal but a decision made by Mainland after receiving advice from Civil Defence management who requested that no large public events take place. Are you always this poorly behaved when things don't go your way?

For all those who follow this thread I would like to acknowledge the death of Adam Fisher in the collapse of the PGG building. A fine young man and former 1st team player for New Brighton AFC. 27, far to young. RIP.
I would also like to express my condolences to anyone else who has lost a loved one on Tuesday.

Hardly surprising considering the damage around the area, a lot of people evacuated. There is nothing about it on their website although that's hardly surprising either. I'd say it'll be a rather short season this year for all grades

Yeah, it's quite funny now that I think I've been hitting up my boss for more saturday afternoons off to play football this year

We are all ok, at Bush Inn when it happened, got thrown around in the car a bit. There's no major damage out this way, just cracks getting bigger in walls that we got from the last quake. Saw you on Campbell Live last night donning a YF top, very classy

edit - I forgot to add, Halswell Domain is off limits for quite some time. Haven't seen it myself but it's reported that the carpark and fields have suffered damage.

Good to hear. Yea got ambushed in the street by Emma Keeling, the buggers made me carry those LPG bottles twice up the driveway to get a good shot! Frigging heavy after a Km.

Story is a shortened season starting after school holidays for juniors and social senior grades. Clubs are meeting with Mainland early next week to assess availabliity of grounds and facilities before deciding on best way forward. Bexley has 4 fields ok, Cuthberts has lots of liquefaction whcih needs to be removes but should be ok (5 senior, 3 junior and 1 intermediate field), South Brighton is probably the best ground in ChCh at the moment and dine to use (1 field) so we are all good to go. At the moment ChCh Utd, Woolston Tech and Bays without grounds for training or MPL.

Might be an option, also the Wellington clubs may not have the funds to fly to Nelson for an away trip given the huge player payments up there , plus one of them will have to move aside to accomodate them, would be a big call. MPL will happen, may be 2 rounds instead of 3 though.

I know technically it would be a step down but they could also play in the top local league until the MPL gets back under way.

That's what I was thinking Timmy and it will be interesting considering all Richmond's signings. The more we beat you the better though Duffy! Should organise a knockout cup in Nelson.

SB Domain was allocated as 1x senior and 1x intermeadiate
I hope this hasn't changed

New Zealand schools center-back Matt Shaw has officially switched from Nelson Suburbs to Richmond Athletic.

https://byphilliprollo.blogspot.com/2011/03/richmond-athletic-season-set-to-be.html

Here's a snippet from a story today in Nelson Mail regarding the Mainland Premier League

"Mainland chief executive Mike Coggan said they were aware that Christchurch United, Woolston Technical, Ferrymead Bays and possibly Coastal Spirit have no main ground.

ASB Football Park, formerly English Park, has been hit with liquefaction, and plans to build an artificial pitch are uncertain.

It was hoped a meeting would be held early next week to look at planning the season, including looking to start the Mainland league as close to kick-off date as possible.

New Zealand Football was to establish a fund to support Mainland Football.

Suburbs operations manager Gary Hinks said he would contact Mainland and offer any help needed, including the potential to host games in Nelson to give teams a weekend out of town."

Bays Barnett Park has been checked and found to be ok, as has Coastal's ground at Linfield Park. Great offer from Gary Hinks, much appreciated, we will see if it is needed but probably not at this stage. Woolston Tech could probably play at South Brighton and ChCh Utd could share Parklands Domain with Parklands Utd, everyone sorted and good to go.
