if what I hear is true and a close to 60 year old gent, who has never played at a high level took the field in an mpl match yesterday , it's an absolute disgrace to the competition, the opponents and the young players at the club.

I wonder what potential sponsors or current, think of that, I hope Mainland address this.

If you want to recognise work being down by a valuable volunteer treating the competition with contemp is not a way to do it.

Sad day for the mpl

At the end of the day is it not up to a team to decide who they play? As long as they are registered to play then all is legal. The fact they also won doesn't bode well for the opposition!??

irrespective if it's legal or not it's direspectful ,

5 mins to go when the team has near enough put the game to bed. Against a team that got relegated the week before.

How would you feel? Knowing a near 60 year old

who never reached that level in his prime comes on against you.

It wasn't that long ago we were at a meeting all being asked how do we raise the bar and the level of our top leagues.

As I said sad for the competition and its sponsors

The following is from the MPL 2015 regs as provided to MPL at the start of the season.

Each Club has a wider responsibility to the code and the sponsers and to the supporters. this is achieve by providing and maintaining football of the best achievable standard, a well presented playing surface and first class facilities.

So maybe debatable if Coastal complied to this or not.

Standing on the sidelines yesterday watching the game I was left shaking my head on this 'planned' sub late on the game considering all the praise coming out of the club in the latter part of the week saying what a good job Xavier had done in his two years in charge and the great work GT has done at his time at the club to make it what it is today.

What next giving a sponser the odd cameo run during a game. .

Just booked my Dads flight for his 70th, during the season as well, might get to get my lifelong dream of playing in the same side as him.

Not sure if I'll pick a Chatham Cup game or MPl

Can't wait ?

Ask Arsene Wenger or the Arsenal board mate, 4th place trophy is amazing success!

Arsenal's EPL win rate under Wenger is near 60%, with Coastal's win rate since coming into the MPL in 2011 is currently just over 39% and under Xavier a shade over 40%.

Their new coach - have they been named yet, may have to cast a magic spell or two to get them to over a 75% win rate which history shows is required to been Mainland champions.

Success can be following on, building on what is already there. eg in constructing the natural numbers, 2 is the successor of 1, 3 is the successor of 2 etc.

Coastal Sprit have succeeded from 6th in 2013, to 5th in 2014, to 4th in 2015.

I guess success is defined differently by some people. To me 2nd-3rd would be classed as mildly successful. 4th however?

Coastal Spirit are proud to announce the head coach for the Mainland Premier League for 2016. Ekow Quainoo has a long affiliation with the club, having been a player and coach throughout the grades. He starred in the club’s promotion match into the Mainland Premier League with a win over Richmond and has also coached a number of different teams in the club including winning the Lotto Under 19 tournament. Ekow is very much looking forward to taking on the role of Premier League coach and has the full support of the club.

Pic of him on their Facebook page. Looks like a young guy, good luck to him. All for the younger coaches coming through

I hear that all may not be clear cut? I hope that is not the case, not a good look if we loose points.

Long affiliation. How long do you call long?

Was that before as well as after playing at Boys High and Nomads?

Didn't he only play pre season for Nomads then decide to remain at Coastal? The fact Coastal are only 7 years old a lot of players have long affiliation with them

Can't wait to see how FC 2011 will do against Technical in the English Cup final. They are quietly confident. Why not? A talented and motivated young bunch with an equally talented Coach in Glenn Lapslie.

Great result with Nelson College winning the NZ Secondary title in Nelson earlier today, defeating Auckland Sacred Hearts 2 - 1 with Nelson Suburbs co-coach DavorTavich the coach and some of the College squad having played for Suburbs this season.

So with Coastal naming Ekow as their coach for 2016 and assuming that there will be no change at Cashmere Technical, Ferrymead Bays and Nelson Suburbs that just leaves Halswell, Western, Universities and FC Twenty11 to sort coaches out or confirm coaching staff for next season.
