I think Christchurch United will be a bit upset now yes. All that money invested and they can't sort the basics out off the pitch. Feel sorry for their players

This one is strange as looks like either they did not think transfer required or forgot to send in one as transfer request only applied for after the date of the game.

Throwing stones from afar kiwifan. If the game last weekend was anything to go by then christchurch united certainly have a long way to go to breeze through the league as you say. personally wasnt impressed by what i saw. Paying players who are only their to pick up a pay cheque isnt always going to win you a league. Not sure why you think selwyn are going backwards and halswell are highly unlikely to push this year, have you got inside knowledge of their teams you can fill us in on?

I see his clearance only submitted (and approved) yesterday 5th. That seems strange to not even get in the pipeline until now

These player payments simply don't happen here in Chch

Halswell being struggling for last few years at bottom of mpl. Now relegated most senior players not playing and surely be hard to attract players. So in need of new players is fairly accurate statement wouldn't you think

Last weekend I'd say Halswell showed they had some nice touches and can certainly finish chances if they get an opportunity. If Selwyn are as strong as last year I can see them opening them up a bit at the back, but Selwyn also have a habit of conceding, which seems to be their downfall. Will make an interesting game there.

Chch Utd will need to improve a lot with their newer players from pre-season if they do want to be up there challenging.

The CCL could have a number of teams that take points off each other, can't see there being one team walking it like Nomads last sea

Stream was awful, result fantastic. Bays looked alright in the first half i thought but we really matched them in the 2nd. Well deserved result. Top of the table FC!

If, what I imaigine are the three pre match favourite's today - Suburbs, Tech and Coastal all win this afternoon, then there will be five teams on 9 points on the top of the table and other start the round on top Bays will be on fifth place on goal difference.

Ceretainly the tightest start to the seaso for a while, but I am sure Univ, Nomads and Western will be out to prove me wrong.

I write this as a neutral as I'm a member of another club along with my boy

.Just watched Waimak beat parklands. In a hard game where Waimak lost players to 2 yellow cards and parklands were lucky to keep some on field, it really blew up after. Parklands should be ashamed!  There coach who had been sent from the ground midway second half to abuse came back on and got involved with Waimak players and created a mess. If mainland do there job he shouldn't coach for a long period again.

Sadly I won't watch any game involving parklands again. There attitude was frankly appalling.

Unfortunately Leg Up, that's the way it is. You can constantly throw reckless challenges around and get little punishment but if you say a naughty word you get punished. It's frustrating but I don't see it changing anytime soon. Just seen a good fair game between Halswell and Selwyn. Much better watching teams play football

You may need to get your facts right. The Parklands coach didn't actually come back and get involved after the game, he came back to diffuse the situation. As you were not anywhere near the centre of the incident it's probably best to not spout lies.

Once again a game was left to get out of control and ultimately ended up in the farce that ensued at the end of the game.

The facts:

* The Parkland's Coach was sent from the dugout for dissent at the referee, and then actually kicking out at the dugout in frustration.

* Parkland's did pick up a number of yellow cards that were warranted and deserved, no arguments there, but to say they should have then had players sent off is interesting as only one of those on a card then committed a foul which on another day could have seen a second card. The ref warned this player to then be careful as he was giving him the benefit of the doubt with that challenge.

* Waimak were involved in similar challenges, with a Parkland's player being left with stud marks all the way down his leg and having to come off. - The ref's interpretation of this was that it was a 50/50 challenge whereby they both went for the ball. One was obviously a little later than the other hence the injury, but the ref interpreted this and so no arguments as he called what he saw.

* Waimak then had 2 players sent off late on for double yellow cards (one of these players actually took a yellow for the 2nd player that was sent off due to them both being in the tackle, but the one who got away with it actually kicked the ball away, for which the ref called the card for). In the end they both picked up 2nd yellows.

* One of the Waimak coaches actually swore at a female fan on the sideline in front of children!

* After the whistle things then kicked off with a number of players from both sides involved. Words were exchanged between 2 players who then traded punches... Both were subsequently Red Carded after the whistle. This is when the Parkland's coach actually helped pull the teams apart.

In addition to this, during the game, Parkland's had an equalising goal ruled out for offside after the keeper came out and left players from both sides near the line. The Parkland's defender finished it but the assistant ref called an offside as he saw only 1 Waimak player between the scorer and the goal. There did seem to be 2 players defending, of which the assistant apologised after the game as he may have been wrong. The only way we'd know for definite was from the people videoing the game, who seemed to conveniently pack up and leave after that (maybe just a coincidence?).

Both teams were certainly in the wrong with how the end finished, and neither team should be proud of the part they played in it. But both teams definitely tangoed in the heat of the moment.

Gee it's a tough old league this year, some key games coming up next weekend already particularly Varsities v Western at the bottom and Cashmere v Coastal top of the table clash. Nomads will be keen to lift the Hurley shield off FC and step away from the bottom 3 while Bays and Nelson will both want to get back on track after this weekends stumbles. Top stuff!

Yes looks like plenty of key match-ups over the Easter Double Header.

As Ron said:

Easter Friday

Cashmere Tech vs. Coastal Spirit

Nelson Suburbs vs Ferrymead Bays

FC Twenty11 vs. Nomads

Universities vs. Western

then on Easter Monday

Nomads vs Suburbs

Coastal vs. FC

Bays vs Universities

Western vs Technicial

How about that crazy weekend of football huh? I know I'm not the stat man but here's my view:

  1. Bays have a shortest reign of Hurley Shield in history (6 days)
  2. Uni paid a massive $8 to beat Nelson
  3. Nomads ship 7 goals to Tech
  4. Shortest player in MPL history at 4 foot 11 inches: Bikram Subba
  5. Western struggle again

Bring on the double header next weekend.

That's a really impartial summary of the"facts" Nigel. For a start referees report will show that Waimak player was sent off after game for foul language.Parklands player was sent off for violent conduct. Head butted Waimak player in front of referees. Don't think that coach can get sent off for dissent. Then refused to go twice so I expect he'll be gone for a few weeks.Post match criticism of the officials from Parklands management was totally unjustified.Probably best ref at this level but players deserved what they got

Actually not a bad game. Halswell should have comfortably been 2 or more up before selwyn scored. Halswell were a lot better than what the scoreline says and played the better football. Defensively they were very poor and that killed them. Selwyn took their chances well.

I'm sorry but I have to correct you about the parklands coach, yes he got sent off for bad language (waimak's coach was worse, a female supporter even asked him to stop becouse he was doing it in front of her son) so he went to the sideline, which I have seen many other coaches do when getting sent off. A couple of minutes later the ref told him he had to move away, so he moved up onto the bank, the ref then said he had to move to the car park. Parklands coach did everything he was told to do. The ref should have been more specific from the start.

Vim you are correct on 1. There have been five reign's of 7 days, Woolston Tech in 2007, Halswell in 2009, Nomads in 2010, Cashmere Technicial in 2012 and Western in 2012.

There is one other occassion when a team has lost the Shield on their first defence at was Western in 2008. The took the shield of Nomads in the final round in 2007 and then lost it back to Nomads in the 3rd round in 2008 so that reign was 224 days

The longest reign is Cashmere Technicial's record 30 defences which lasted 1337 days from 10 Aug 2013 to 1 April 2017.

There have been 94 games for the shield since it was first introduced at the start of the 2007 season with the shield changing hands 20 times, with six of these happening during 2012.
