Gidday folks. New to forum and the internet. Old timer in the MPL world though. Been there since the start.

Been watching a lot of matches this season.Interested to hear people's  thoughts on top 4 teams. I'm a big western fan so dont really want to talk about bottom 4. I feel if we survive this year we'll grow stronger together and be there for years to come rising to the top one day. As long as we get big pak fit and get rid of our card happy idiots bell and Longman.

Anyway top 4. Always been fond of tech and what they achieve. Superb team. Just wish Aaron would come home. But I think they'll win the league this year again. Scoring for fun. They're next games against Ferrymead and Coastal will define league. Nelson I think will finish 4th after there slow start. Don't travel well do they. And lost too many big stars like Coey. His free kick against coastal is forever locked in a happy place in my head.

As for coastal and Ferrymead, very interesting season for them. Good chance to steal crown back from Cashmere. However are Ferrymead really better this year with there new signings? That midfielder Jacob who used to be a rock at western has been hopeless in possession this season! Always giving the ball away. Sadly missed the game between them and coastal.

Onto coastal anyway. Wow. Where to start with this lot. Blew it last year. Up and down this year. They don't impress me. I think they overrated. Bringing in 'stars' and paying them big $$ clearly not working. And now I'm reading that players are quitting! Really dislike them. Hope thy et relegated soon.

Anyway give me a reply. Always up for a good discussion!!

Go western!!!

Good article on emerging giants Hurunui Rangers

https://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/north-canter...

Also states further on Waimak are not entering the English Cup this year, does Gaffa or anyone else know why?

Also hear Halswell tipped out of the Chatham Cup by Parklands on penalties, great result for the Parklands club but oh what a fall from grace for Halswell. Match report Benchie or are you still on the turps?

Halswell should of lost inside 90, as they should have in the league last week, just poor finishing the issue for us again.

Halswell did come back into it in the 2nd half and then took the lead following poor marking and a good cross.

We then got an injury time penalty after the keeper had a moment of madness and pulled our striker down when on the corner edge of the box. The resulting penalty just squeezed through to take it to shootout.

Some muppet had the 1st penalty saved for Parklands, but the 2nd Halswell one was saved and the 3rd hit the post, which meant the remaining 4 saw us through.

Gonna be a tough one next round but recent performances are starting to get towards the required results

Any match reports/recaps from around the other grounds? No real shocks by the looks of it but I heard Christchurch United gave Nomad a good run for their money

I'll give a slightly more unbiased opinion given we were not involved in the cup.. Couldn't tell you about last week but Halswell should have had game won inside 90. Parklands kepper kept busier of the two. Parklands only really threatened from long throws and too often resorted to long ball play. Keepers known as nutcases, Parklands one should have been sent and penalty awarded. Pretty blatant and dirty having only eyes for players ankles and diving in with feet. Parklands penasty late on was very dubious, was on that side and looked outside box, not one Parklands player near the action appealed. Referee and linesman in our league are terrible. Last few rounds will be interesting, wouldn't write Parklands or Halswell out both capable of beating anyone

To be honest yesterday's ref was one of the better ones we've had this season.

I'm sure if you ask both keepers who was kept the busier you will find that Lee will admit he had to keep out 3 or 4 one on ones, plus a few from longer range. Dave on the other hand up until midway through the 2nd half had hardly touched the ball.

As the 2nd half Halswell definitely came into it more and could of snatched something inside 90 which would probably have been a bit harsh. In extra time they were definitely the better side though. The player that was fouled wasn't in a state to appeal due to a serious rib injury that occurred earlier in extra time.

With the Parklands keeper incident the ref was next to the action and made the call. It was close but also came from the lack of sportsmanship with the Halswell winger who was being advised by all his teammates to give the ball back from the dropball, which was incidentally an injury to that said winger!

yes that was a bit strange. Halswell played it towards a Parklands player who stood and watched without taking the ball. Is it fair play then? I'm unsure to be honest, said player looks to be extremely young but a very handy player, possibly a lack of experience in that instance.

I think that's the problem with uncontested drop balls nowadays. Saying that the young winger also seemed a little dazed by the incident. I was a bit surprised that the ref allowed a Halswell coach to do a concussion test rather than the ref doing it himself

Surely not the refs role to do a concussion test.

I wonder how long before he is mistreated by the club and ends up down the road at Selwyn like many others before him

When there is no official medics who's job should it be? The ref is responsible for the overall safety of everyone on the pitch and I've seen many refs do the check previously. This is the first time I've actually seen it left to a coach, who had just made his final sub, in a tense extra time (I'm not saying this impacted the decision, but it could easily happen)

From the Christchurch United facebook page:

Pieter in ’t Groen returns to his family in Ghana

Christchurch United is sad to announce that Technical Director Pieter in ’t Groen has asked the Christchurch United FC to release him from his contract to rejoin his family in Ghana.

Visa procedures for Pieter’s Ghanian wife and son to join him in New Zealand have proven to be complicated and the timelines unpredictable, so Pieter has decided to put his family first and return to Ghana as soon as possible.

The family had spent most of last year apart while Pieter worked for a club Qatar and he had not expected to face another long separation after moving to New Zealand.

The club respects Pieter’s priorities and wants to thank him for the major input he has made in the club in his short stint in Christchurch.

Pieter was instrumental in setting up the club’s first Academy programme and the football programme for the players who have joined the Unlimited Discovery Ao Tahiti school.

Fernando Lambert will continue as Interim Technical Director until the end of the winter season in August, while the club recruits a new Technical Director with the international experience that Pieter brought to Christchurch United.

Christchurch United management has maintained regular contact with other candidates who were part of last year’s selection process for other roles at the club, so the club is confident it will be able to attract another highly qualified international coach to our club.

We wish Pieter and his family all the best.

Odd that a club 'sad to announce' someone is going home because of family is put on garden leave with immediate effect. Alternative facts anyone?

Wonder how many lower league matches may be affected tomorrow by this weather. Whilst pitches seem to be open there will be a number in bad conditions, especially with 2 or 3 games on them
