As i said earlier has the English Cup lost some of its value with Tech fielding a weakened team? Its not like there are that many games in the season that players cant cope with the quantity? Not taking anything away from Western that is a fantastic result obviously.
Well Tech started with Terris, Boys, T.Schwarz, Evans, Kelly, Halligan, Oxley and Lockhart. Matthysen & Heath were the only two fringe players, and they're considered to be top talents. Not sure who the goalie was. White came off the bench in the second half, as did a player i've never seen before...who proceeded to get himself sent off late in the game. So people can decide for themselves how much of a weakened team that was...
It was a classic cup game: Tech dominating for the first 25 mins and Western putting their bodies on the line: in truth, Tech could have been a couple up, but Western kept battling and rode their luck. However, the longer the game stayed at 0-0, the more confident Western became, and started to get a bit of joy on the break: they've got some players with pace and kept Tech's defence honest. Thought Tech worked the ball very well in the first half, but in the second their fluency went and frustration set it. A lot of their crossing became a bit aimless: they never really " got round the back " very often, and a set piece goal became their most likely method of scoring. Western's first goal was in about the 83 min, and of course Tech tried to throw the kitchen sink at Western in the time remaining but were undone again with a couple of mins to go. Brownie's right: Western took their chances and Tech didn't: Cup football in a nutshell. Western deserve a lot of credit: they played with great team spirit...
