Smart move by Christchurch United to sell to the richest football man in town; best bet to keep the club alive. I forsee national league club application in the (distant?) future.
As for Western, I'm amazed they haven't merged with Nomads and Papanui. Pride and hope stands in the way, I guess. No WPL team among those 3 clubs, but now 2 MPL teams, so merger soon unlikely. Not many junior feeder teams though. Yet in the southwest...
Halswell. No MPL or WPL representation now. For the south west of Chch (with its growth and junior base) to have no mens or womens team in the top flight, wow. Now that the Rams merger option is gone (and unsure of current relations with Selwyn), they'll have to try to fight their way back. Could be a long few years for the Hawks.
Bays and FC20 seem in reasonable health for their respective circumstances; Coastal first teams doing well on the pitch but need CCC to upgrade Cuthberts #1 or a longer term plan B. Cashmere coaching appointment will be interesting. Clapham may get it but I could see a left field surprise too (not currently affiliated with CTFC or Christchurch), as an indicator of the club's ambition.
What else is news around the clubs?
