For the record Aidan to Bays is confirmed. What a shame. Him and Ede together were some handful!! 6 places above them on the table and that Selwyn team had still scored more goals then us most the season. Class.

Thats my yellowfever input for the season.

Over and out.

Interested to hear more about the term 'loan' player and the workings of the concept in NZ's amateur scene.

Have to registered for the club you are playing at and not a simple case for switching and playing between two (or more) clubs during the same season.

Would be impossible for a 'loaned out' player to transfer back to their 'parent' club after the transfer deadline, unless it was between two different Federations.

It is still a very grey area about a player only allowed to play for two clubs during a season. If a player goes from Club A (and plays) and then to Club B (and plays) and then wants to return back to Club A. Is this their second or third club?   .

Thanks for the heads up Kiwifan. When that whistle goes I just want to win. Outside or after the game im a nice guy I promise. Come give me a cuddle next time.  Referees accepted the apology. We all cool :) Young coach and still learning. Sorry if I somehow disrespected you. I too use to think I was disrepected when games were live but then I realised later in life that some people are just very competitive. Hence a sincere handshake at the end of each match.

To "Experience" well said man. To be honest I think good players attract good players. Bit of a snowball effect that needs to be harnessed.

Average age of Coastals squad is 23. Still pretty young.  But yeah miles behind Selwyn in some areas.

To "Liverpool for Eva" 2nd is still an empty cabinet. Fans and players all want more then that.

I think Coastals ethics can be backed up by being one of few clubs that have an FDM employed that doesnt play. I think the club had those kinds of options but its mian priority is to improve areas off the pitch not on it.  Claps n Hoyle etc etc all match winners. Very jealous haha

Enjoy the banter!!

Play nice

Bring back GT !! Did not he play a bit whilst FDM? Different ethics then at Coastal, maybe.

Of course winning trophies is what fans and players all what to be doing come the end of the season but there's more ways to measure a clubs success both on and off the pitch other than by what is in the trophy cabinet: Coastal are a positive, friendly club and the progress the club is making both on and off the pitch is there for all to see.

That said, the sideline banter at a Coastal game is definitely top of the league and deserves a trophy :)

ekow will be able to shed some light, unless the keeper you speak of was the one who was meant to have been signed before the apparent approach to the nelson keeper immediately following last weekends game. Nomads, must be the only club offering any financial incentive then.

I heard through the grape vine so that may be the case, or maybe coastal were never wanting to sign him. Nomads could be interesting with a new goalkeeper though and that new english centre back. They pushed tech all the way last weekend and with more security in defence and in goal they could do quite well in the south island league I reckon.

I asked some parents in the Coastal camp on why Ash went to Coastal. Coastal was Ash's first club. Ekow Bought Ash to Coastal back in 2010 when he was a player as he was his good friend and captain at CBHS. Now Ash says coming back to try and win things with his friends and first club means more to him then to do what hes already done at Tech. Good on him.

Well done to Tech and Coastal. Two fantastic teams. I think the biggest thumbs down needs to go to Bays. Even half way through the season they STILL throw cash at players and unsettle lower teams. They are the dirty club in this city for me. And you need to laugh at how far of Tech they are.

Seeing Coastals MPL finishes are interesting. Cant see Nomads or Selwyn bettering that after getting promoted. I think it comes down to having the best coaches. Allan Walker, Monsef, Stanton, Turnbull and now I believe the clubs longest serving coach from memory being Ekow. Good work kid.

People going on about ca$hed up clubs throwing money at players....but what sort of sums are we talking here?

I doubt anyone is making too much cash playing in the MPL surely? Happy to be proven wrong!

And when is the next round of games?

Maybe Ekow can parade his virtual 2nd place trophy before the game :)

Congratulations to Cashmere Technical.

Now, is anyone able to take off their club eye patch and comment on the actual football that’s been played this season so far? What has the quality been like? What tactics have been employed? The stats tell me Cashmere scored a lot of goals; Coastal had the best defence; Bays and Nelson remained static at best; Nomads are on the improve; FC20 are still well short of top 5; Selwyn may be playing naively given their goals for and against; and Uni are incredibly still in with a shot of not being relegated.

Will be interesting to see the level of transfers in the coming weeks before the SI League gets underway, hopefully not too many from teams that are battling relegation or team fighting for promotion.

I believe that if, and it may be a big if, the same format is in place next season - a SIL for the top sides after the completion of the Mainland Premier League and the Football South Premier League then a rule needs to be brought in that covers any player transferring in the last few rounds of their respective Premier League.

The rule stating any players transferring into a team that goes on to play in the SIL has to have been on the team sheet for a certain number of games for that club in their respective Premier Leagues, say four games in the MPL and a lesser number for the FSL (if only played over eight rounds).

This way coaches / managers would look at their squads midway into the leagues, rather than only once they know that have qualified for the SIL or use players that they have been developing within their own club, rather than plunder players developed by another club.

To be fair the rule would also have to apply to the bottom three teams from the MPL as well.

Yes Colin Curry was hot stuff, only coach in the MPL to win a game and then find out was was being sacked.

Yes agree with this. Another way to solve it is to bring the transfer window forward a month. Might not be logistically possible though I guess.

Yes the June transfer window is a FIFA timing so cannot alter that so would have to be a rule for the SIL.

Seeing as you've asked for an unbiased opinion, I've got this.

I have seen 13 of Coastal's 14 MPL games, some Chatham and English Cup, and a few Parklands games thrown in so I feel I have a rough enough view of the teams.

Tech

Too good, no matter what team they put on the park. They didn't have their superstars in the first game, and it was 0-0. Some were on the park the second time when they beat us 2-1 but there were some on the bench and some didn't even play. I'm not sure what they've done with team rotation over the season but it's obviously worked. You don't get through the season unbeaten, score 9 goals in a single game, have a +30 GD without being the best. Lyall is amazing and can't believe he didn't play much in the National League. Look forward to our next meet in the CC and SIL. I still hate them with a passion.

Coastal

I've watched Coastal/New Brighton for nearing 20 years and this is our best team yet. On and off the pitch they are a team. No weak spots in any position and our most packed bench all fighting for spots. Even with the loss of Aaron Spain, others could fill the void. 10 goals against all season shows how good our keeper and backs are.  4 of those 10 were against Selwyn! Deffo have the best fans in the league. :-)

Bays

I'm not sure what to make of Bays. They seem a rag-tag bunch of individuals who managed to win the league last year. This year appears to be back to normal. Plenty of characters in the team for the fans to take the piss out of, Chang, Murphy, Ando et al. I don't get the feeling there is a team culture but hey, I'm on the outside.

Nelson

Love having them in the league with the Nelson trip and gutted I didn't go this year. Definitely not the powerhouse of old. Still have good players in the team, but still can't work out how/why they choose their Chch based players to travel up every second week. Probably the biggest margin we've had over them in past years, altho we did beat them 3 times either last year or the one before.

Nomads

Great to have some Canty Utd players going somewhere else! Hoyle is good and deserving of his golden boot. Really strong and good shot on him. Pendrigh was another good addition and also strong on and off the ball. Aquaman in goal looked little, so interesting if there is a replacement on the cards.

FC2011

We got lucky in game 1 with some sort of charge-down rugby league goal however game 2 was different. I don't mind their coach and what he does with the team, they all seem real young and try to play decent football. Can sometimes get caught out and over-run by bigger and stronger teams. Sh!t end to the season being on 13 points and having to play off against the same old same old, however them's the rules.

Selwyn

Sad to see them down there fighting it out, and they have obviously struggled with the step up from CCL to MPL. Having watched more CCL than I would like to of late, it is clear there is a gap between the two that is tough to bridge. Some heaps good players in the team (I don't hold grudges Dan) and it's bullsh!t that one is going to leave them in the lurch and go play for Bays.Would like to see them stay up as they have a good set up, young players, great coach.

Uni

Sigh. Deserve to go I'm afraid, and probably should have gone last year. Hard to string passes together, nothing up front, nothing at the back. Not really a club in my opinion, so yer, hopefully go to CCL and stay there.

Sigh. Deserve to go I'm afraid, and probably should have gone last year. Hard to string passes together, nothing up front, nothing at the back. Not really a club in my opinion, so yer, hopefully go to CCL and stay there.

I agree with all of the top 6. I think the aqua man in goal was the new guy since I've never seen him before. Wasn't particularly impressed so I doubt coastal were after him. I genuinely believe the MPL has 2 too many teams, both selwyn and uni aren't really good enough to add anything to the league and both would be better served in the CCL. Selwyn with a bit of time could well become MPL quality but at the moment they look way behind the pace (still ahead of Uni though)

Selwyn have obviously proved they can break down defences in the league, as they have the last couple of years in the CCL, but the one key last year was that they tightened up at the back.

This year will have been a learning curve for them (I hope they stay up as will be good to have some rotation amongst the 2 leagues rather than same old teams changing. If they’re able to learn from this and tighten the defence up early doors next season there could be some bigger scalps

Pretty sure Aquaman was in goal the first time we played them in Round 7. I'd recognise that guy anywhere.

I am struggling with this one, as I always want to see the best available players competing and am hoping for a really competitive SI League.

If this is to be a step up from MPL then some sides will need strengthening.

I think we are seeing the development of some good young players and need to see them further extended if they are to continue to progress.

The level of competition is most important to me, with the best on show.
