Heard rumours in some quarters tonight that Waimak don’t want to finish top and get promoted as the club aren’t prepared to invest in the Southern League.
Anyone have any insight into this?

You would think Burwood have even less money?
Such a costly jump tp get promoted, which of the clubs can actually afford it?

Burwood don’t have the youth sector set up to be able to be promoted do they? Same as Parklands and probably Western too?

Uni's don't have one, FC don't seem to be licenced this year as they aren't in any CDL leagues but did have it last year. Perhaps only Halswell can be promoted unless they relax the rules a bit. - Waimak have the set up and are probably the only club that could put a half decent U20 reserves together from the whole league.

A think the regulations state only the winners of either the Canterbury Premier League and the Nelson Bays Premier League are able to seek promotion subject to meeting the other requirements.

A think the regulations state only the winners of either the Canterbury Premier League and the Nelson Bays Premier League are able to seek promotion subject to meeting the other requirements.

As per the regulations:
Playoff Series: the competition managed by Mainland Football to determine promotion into the Southern League including the winning teams of the CPL, Nelson Division One and Southern Premier League.

The highest ranked team on the CPL final table will be nominated for the ‘Playoff Series’, to compete for promotion into the SL.

Doesn't a club need to meet specific criteria once it qualifies such as youth development, etc?

Correct. I was just noting the Mainland CPL rules. The Southern League is governed by NZF rules. And a club with SL aspirations needs to have lots of boxes ticked - Coaches with qualifications (B licence I think), Womens team, Youth at TDP level etc.
Oh and also a club microwave to heat the soup - we have that  :)

Here is the current table from the Football South Premiership, the the Dunedin City Royals confirmed as Championships after the weekend games, as per my earlier post Football South can nominate the runner-up's for promotion. Roslyn Wakari play Northern - away, this coming Saturday, so a Roslyn win or draw will see them claim second place, with Northern then facing Northern Hearts in their final game.

Copied from Roslyn Wakari face book page after they defeated Northern this afternoon.

ABL Premier Men
0-4 win vs Northern AFC
The result secures second position in the ODT Southern Premiership and entry into the South Island League Playoff. This will be played over two legs in September - more details to come.
