Good to see it won't be one of the big 2 winning the trophy.

I think it's really disappointing that Mainland have done away with the finals day where Reta and English Cup played on same day.Always a good day to be a part of. Hopefully its just due to sth island league scheduling

What has happened to #Me Too Movement? I'm on board, surely Mainland Football should be setting an example? The same rules should apply to Men and Women, Boys and Girls! In order to play in the WMPL you must have a reserve team! I suggest a quick amendment to the rules for next year.

Hopefully Mainland Football will run updates throughout the match for those who can't make it.

Otherwise, Universities will be reviving the twitter feed for the Reta Fitzpatrick Final (finally a time I can make my game and this game) so will do my best to keep the info flowing. Follow along at https://twitter.com/UC_Football - will be using #retafinal2018 unless there's an official one.

Sorry to disturb your forum but thought this could be interesting for all involved within Christchurch football...

The Christchurch Football Centre at Yaldhurst will be kicking-off Social Leagues on October 15th, catering for 7/9/11-a-side formats throughout the week.

It could be a nice way for players to stay ticking over for the rest of 2018... or for all you spectators who have been watching this season to finally get your chance to produce the goods on pitch!

Follow the link to have a look - http://www.cfcentre.co.nz/cfc-term-2-leagues-2018/

Going on the assumption that the "new" cufc has not attended / read minutes of any (girls/womens) meetings over the last 5-6 years and the "old" cufc was also not particularly interested in developing junior/youth players to underpin it's women's football, it would have been logical for them to have discussed their intentions with Mainland Football before posting.

Perhaps they have, and managed to negotiate different criteria from every other club in town. If not, they may well need to develop ($$) a team in every girls/women's grade for 2019 before they are in the running for a WPL spot in 2020.

Either way, having the shiniest sandpit in town is no guarantee of anyone (other than the ones you've paid) to come and play.

Flights to the North Island and Australia for fixtures with likeminded clubs that are "dealing with the same issues" are sure going to add up, but may well prove their point of needing some different opposition from what's on offer in ChCh.

They sure don't seem to be making many friends at the moment.

the bits in bold and underlining are mine - this cleverly thought out "plan" is taken from their website

Christchurch United FC has plans to develop a WPL team for next year.

Our long term goal is to create one environment for girls U13 and up, where they will be challenged daily to improve their skills and where they are surrounded by players of similar ability level. At this stage we have got several talented girls playing with the boys, and they are developing well. The next step in their development should be playing in the WPL. Says who? Absurd assumption.

So after much consideration we believe that this is the right moment to start with a WPL team (2019). Believe what you want, there's a process to follow.

At this stage we know there is a great potential for having a really strong WPL team where the focus is on developing younger girls within the team. We badly want to make this work. Wow, one emotive statement right there, hardly a plan though. But wait -

The plan

  • Training will be twice a week at the Christchurch Football Centre and game day Cunning, especially the game day bit :)
  • Coaching staff is more or less confirmed, with a coach with a SL2 license and an assistant coach with a degree in Sport Science More or less? Make up your mind. I thought this was a plan?
  • We have enrolled an U17 girls team at the Western Spring U17 National tournament in Auckland in March Whoopee!
  • We have discussed a sponsorship option to ensure players can enjoy all the benefits of first team football at a high level. This is likely to mean no sub’s will be payable for the WPL players as a minimum Likely? Will it or won't it? Love the loose use of the word "discussed" to imply this is a done deal. Danger, danger.
  • Program to be run for the season, starting end of January and finishing end of term 3 Clever! That about covers the season.

The next step in this process is to investigate the support from you So is this going only to current club members or are they going to be ditched back into the boys teams while you chase talented players from other clubs? in order to go ahead with the plan. We would like to invite you for a meeting to be held on Monday the 21st January at CFC at 7pm. We will invite all that are interested in joining the WPL team, or the ones that might be on the edge of moving to play senior football to discuss the pathway.

If you could please reply with an expression of interest by sending an email to [email protected], it will give us a feel for numbers and support. We have already had a number of players from other clubs Ooops let the cat out of the bag! keen to learn more about this new exciting new younger WPL team of the future.

We hope to see as many as possible to discuss the plans and go forward from there. Plans now huh?

Don't get me wrong I welcome any plan to improve and strengthen women's football in Mainland (this probably doesn't reflect that but hey I'm a stirrer as well :)) but this is nowhere near being a plan, to me it looks more like a poor attempt to attract players from other clubs. It's more a vague idea how "we" can get a team straight into the WMPL. Ego destroys common sense, culture kills strategy. Seriously I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole in it's current form. Do the hard yards United, you of all clubs should know by now there are no shortcuts in building a club. There are lots of them in destroying one though.

They used to have a women’s div 1/2 team a few years ago but weren’t supported by the clubs big CFA venture and ultimately stopped with players going elsewhere.

Murray may know a bit more around if it ever started up again or any reasoning as I know a couple of his Sunday league team had involvement in that women’s team at the time

Yes correct, Division 2-3 (2001 to 2014). Mainly a social team and coached by a number of my Sunday team lads over the years. The team broke up at about the time of the Christchurch United merger with CFA etc. Not a lot of effort put in by the club to keep them, but to be fair this may have been a hard to do with the dwindling numbers.

Interesting that it's a draft? I'm not sure what's happening but it looks like a lot of nervous clubs are worried. Why, player poaching? Common it been done for years, I can name 3 ex waimak players who were encouraged to move elsewhere by clubs/fed coaches. Of those developed at waimak all played for NZ at age group. So chin up those of you who are vunerable, maybe things go round in circles.

And as long as CHCH united can produce a competitive team it has to be better than the current 5 team comp. There simply ain't enough players in grades below for this draft to work.

What's happening aat united looks just what one other major club has done to produce a competitive team expect it's done by someone who has greater vision. If I had the chance or any of my kids did I would be jumping aboard.

Stop whining, accept it, and try to match on the feild.currently in the mpl and WPL ONLY CASHMERE(BOTH) and ferrymead can match the quality coming through and won't need to grab players.

Also, what's the go at waimak, lots of rumblings I hear
