Ok then . assuming that is correct that leaves some experienced prem seniors and talented up and coming players in PDL or on the bench . or they just jump on the WPL merry-go-round.

I don't know, hence my original post lamenting wholesale club hopping

Young players who are keen to develop their game will always follow good coaches. If your club consistently invests in coaching you will not only develop good players, but attract good players too. Where's Curry?

Yes very right. Good coaches can definitely attract good players to a club even when the club isn't a 'top of the league' one. You will also get players moving to a coach who tell them they are awesome and will always get picked even if they mess around and take the piss. Not sure if you would class that as good coaching however.

Clubs have different ways of "investing" in coaching, that's for sure

Regardless, it's bullshark for the league which is hopefully on the up to have these player migration fiascos.

A very poor look.

If the news is what I heard at the end of last year then there might be an end to Coastals dominance

I reckon it might be too.

Pretty sure AW82's records will show that Coastal have dominated long before the past two seasons so we will wait and see what happens. Deffo sad day on a whole heap of levels.

Wasn't just referring to the last couple of seasons, credit to your club for setting the bar so high for a long time now

We will just have to work harder with what we have. I'm not waving the white flag in January!

Since 2008 Coastal have won the league 6 times out of 8, with Western and FC Twenty11 each winning once. Six wins in the Reta in the same period, with Western one win and Cup not contested in 2010 and one win in the National KO Cup from two finals.

don't know whos going or whos staying . but with the class in coastals PDL and the level of coaching coastal women get right through the grades I'm picking coastal to take it out yet again . As quoted by the late Jack Ralston ( coach of olympic champion Hamish Carter) " there are coaches and there are poachers " .

Just what happened to the Nomads ladies team when we owned the league and cup before it became a girls [youngsters] league.

We will be back and carry on the Nomads name to follow on from the 11 titles in a row, 14 in 19 years. 10 Rita knockouts in 14 years.

Plus the team went to the USA on an invite to compete in a tournament.

All the females at Nomads went like sheep to Chch United when the cheque book came out from Chch U just because some coach thought he was a super star.  So what have the Rams done then or since.

For the green horns on here yes Coastal [then New Brighton] and Nomads had some top battles and ruled.

Rangers dominated for six years or so in the late 70s in the league and four years in a row in the mid 80s won the Rita. Sunday League clubs also had good ladies teams Avonhead and Hillsborough both won the Rita knockout in the 90s.

All clubs have the limelight at some stage before history repeats.

What do you think of the quality of the league at present? Some good players have left it in the last 2-3 years - Phillips, Moore, Merrin, Alfield, van Noorden, Proctor will be absent this season. Only 1 South Islander made the recent U17 NZWNT, yet there must be some quality youngsters coming through - if i recall correctly, it was Coastal v Cashmere in last years ACFC U17 final.

Coastal were 2nd losing to  an Akld side (Forest?)

Beat CTFC in semi's

I would think Coastal have 2 'lock in's' for next U17 banding. Could be 3 but one player is born 2000 not 2001 so she would miss the cut. Anyway anything can happen until then...

Early transfer news:

Cashmere sign 2 of the best in midfielder Annalie Longo and fullback Ash Ward from Coastal. Oh well, if you cant' beat them, ... them.

GK Hannah Hegarty moves to Cashmere, her 3rd club in 3 years.

A raft of Selwyn players defect to FC20, following coach McMann.

Holly Pascoe (Mainland's best young striker) has a story to tell. Transferred approved from University to Cashmere on 20 January. Two weeks later on 5 February she transferred back to Universities!

With the rules around what is expected of clubs and players in terms of facilities, fair play, age etc in both men's and women's MPL, are there any requirements of coaches at that level? Must have certain qualifications?

Pretty sure they have to have senior level 2 or be working towards it.

Theres no requirements about facilities for WPL, something that should be looked at

..and the fallout from McMann luring Selwyn players to FC20 looks to have started with a number of fringe first teamers moving to Universities.

Looks like the merry go round

It's this sort of shark that ruins 'competition'. Disappointing to say the least.

Sadly seems to happen more in the female grades than the male grades.

Looking at the clearance page Parklands and FC Twenty11 have picked up a few ex Western players and look to FC Twenty signing an International player in the next day or two.

So I have been told and if it does happen they will be coming from just down the road.
