Just got some Gen 3 turf put in at school... probly slightly larger then Nairnville (gloat gloat)

it is amazing, and needs to be put in by the council, sooner rather the later!

Does anyone apart from me think it's slightly f*cked that rugby is getting most of the prime training time on this flash new gen 3 turf?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Yes, why does rugby need a flat even surface to practice scrums, lineouts and back line moves. Could be done just about anywhere

Yes it is. Prob gonna be the same for any other turfs they develop too. WCC dont comprehend that surface condition is a million times more important for footy.

From the article on the front page:

"Wellington's first ratepayer-funded artificial sports field will reduce the number of games cancelled because of poor ground conditions this winter, the city council says. '

What BS, one 3/4 field will make no difference at all to games being cancelled "this winter".

A dog with a bone :)

WCC Sports Forum

When: Thursday 16 April, 6-8 pm
Where: Renouf Foyer, Michael Fowler Centre, Wakefield Street

Interested in artificials and WCC's roll out plan? Come along to the free forum this Thursday. WCC Project Mgr Glenn McGovern will lead a break out session and will take questions about the artificial project.

Full media release:

Maister to inspire sports forum on 16 April

Barry Maister, Chief Executive of the NZ Olympic Committee, will be the keynote presenter at a sports and recreation forum to be hosted by Mayor Kerry Prendergast on 16 April.

Mr Maister will present on the success of New Zealand's Beijing 2008 Olympic Campaign to attendees of the latest in the regular sports and recreation forums.

Representatives of local and national sports and recreation organisations are urged to come along to the forum which, City Councillor John Morrison says, offers an excellent opportunity to be inspired, to network, and find out about the good things happening in the sports community around the city.

I think the presence of Barry a gold medal winner himself, after all will be a great drawcard for the forum.

Forum participants will also be in with a chance to win a double pass to the All Blacks-France match at Westpac Stadium in June.

Cr Morrison, the Councils Economic Development and Recreation Portfolio Leader, says the forum aims to strengthen relationships and improve communication between the Council and sport and recreation organisations in the city.

Council representatives will also present at the forum on:

the new Nairnville Park artificial sports surface and the Councils plans for further artificial turf sites

the Councils Long Term Council Community Plan

progress on sports and recreation projects and initiatives

Participants will also be able to discuss ideas, trends, challenges and opportunities in breakout sessions.

I only saw this pitch on the weekend - and the surface is absolutely fantastic. It'd be absolutely brilliant to play on it.

But 3/4? Just defies logic imo.

My juniors played on it.  Apart from wasting 5 minutes of the game everytime the ball when down the bank it was ggod.  Although we were informed that from now on there will be a gold coin donation from every player to help pay for it.

This seems quite silly.  It would have been much easier to increase the team fee to CF by X amount of dollars to fund it rather than expect parent to bring their loose change.  Any thoughts?

Maybe the extra donation is to pay for a fence???

the fence was in original plan- residents rejected it as an eyesore or something like that

I heard that also Salmon.  Crazy huh!

Apparently as part of the resource consent process the residents rejected the idea of a fence because it would ruin their view.  Their view of what?!@$@#~!@$?

So next time you're up there, shove a kid (or a coach) down the hill.  Make sure he/she breaks something.  Then it will be a health and safety issue and the council will be required to build a fence.

i think its crazy too, but it shows that the council, ,love them or loathe them, is dealing with a wide range of opinions here- not just the dyed in the wool, converted to football brigade.

next artificial will be full size, with no neighbours- near WIS Newtown.

Salmon if you tell News that there's a bacon sarney (or tell Greene that there's a keg) buried under the tarmack you'll probably find it gets dug up overnight.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Actually, that would be a hell of a photo op... get hundreds of football people up in that car park in local club gear with digging equipment and talk up football banding together to get it done.

Fever could rent the hardware, I've always wanted to drive an excavator.

I coach there on Friday nights, so I already have a keg buried. What I usually do though is line my empties up along to the top of the bank to stop the ball rolling down.

Yeah crazy its got no fence though. I have to run down the hill about ten times a night. Isnt your old man one of the neighbours Smiff?
