I will point out that I'm posting this on someone else's behalf.

It has been brought to my attention that this season they will be limiting the number of games played on the new pitch (on Sunday mornings - only 2 games per hour on a 1/4 pitch - leaving the rst unused) due to complaints from the neighbours...

WTF, is this for real?

And if so, who caved easily without fighting for the kids who use this ground every Sunday.

The person who asked about this has a daughter who plays there, and she pays $110 for these facilities each season, now they are only likely to get 2 games on the pitch in the entire season.

60 teams, 7 players each, paying $110 for a surface they wont get to use. Last year all of the kids in the mornings played every game on the new pitch, now they have only been informed less than a week ago that they are likely to only use it twice.

could someone give a reasoned explanation for this please.

Poor consultation between the Council and residents. It seems to me the Council must have done a poor job in outlining the impacts of this facility. Otherwise if they had, then its though sh*t for the residents (who previously had no objections and agreed for the facility to go ahead).

Eh?

Residents had lots of objections.  They pushed the resource consent process the whole way and were in the paper protesting the decision to build the thing.  They held up construction of a fence around it for almost 12 months as well.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Well why did the council bother then? They shouldve taken the pitch somewhere else. Theres plenty of high use grounds in wellington on the waiting list for an artificial...

Councils fault.

So, turns out this is fact.

Neighbours have complained about the number of vehicles.

So council have limited number of users at any one time.

Thus number of games reduced.

Email your local councillor.

Shall we organise a "Park In".  Like a sit in but with cars?

This is a very good point, however it's still disappointing that WCC have caved in on this one.

I mean, these people live opposite a public park ffs.  Surely they have to expect there to be sports played there on a Saturday morning?

I've got a spare car from time to time, might just leave it parked at Nairnville.

We could park the sub up there as well.  Leave the keys at Casa del Smiff.

Very disappointing.  I see Park Life is on to it so maybe it will get resolved soon.

What does this mean (if anything) for the other planned artificial turfs?

Had a wee peek at the new arti pitch behind the show buildings ,looks great but being perched away up there I can see a lot of balls disappearing into the abyss below ,they may need a higher fence at the show building side of the pitch!
I base this on my own master div ones  teams ability to constanly sky the ball several thousand metres over the crossbar !

The answer to life's problems are rarely found at the bottom of a beer glass - but it's always worth a look.
