so in theory wellington teams

in a tournament

wellington college need a draw to go through - but can go through with a loss
hibs need a win and a fair few goals

in b tournament

tawa just need a draw to go through
st pats town  just need a draw to go through

sat pats silversdtream need a win and for taradale to lose.

remember games are only 25 mins each way i think? maybe 30 so draws are a regular event.

Where does the "A" and "B" tournament come in to it, are there not 32 teams in the the LOTTO premier tournament?

Where does the "A" and "B" tournament come in to it, are there not 32 teams in the the LOTTO premier tournament?

not this year format has changed (works a bit like rugby sevens)

there is 16 teams in tournament a (premier) and 16 in b.

the top 8 after group stage from premier compete for the cup  (places 1-8)

the bottom 8 of premier and the top 8 of tournament b after group stage play for the bowl (places 9 - 24)

the bottom 8 of tournament b after group stage compete for plate (places 25 - 32)

do you get the above or have i completly confused you?

wellington college through to quarters playing for (1-8)

tawa college knocked out of b tournament now playing for plate (25-32)
same as silverstream playing for platel (25-32)

no results in for hibs or sat pats town yet though

Wow comprehensive results there. Thanks.

Not really a good sign when some of "the best 32 teams in college football" are getting thrashed by 5 or 6 goals.

Auckland teams looking just as strong as ever

Well done to Wellington College on making the last eight.  A big test today playing Mt Albert Grammer. There was a huge gap last year between any Wellington team and the top Auckland teams, so hopefully for the sake of Wellington football the gap ihas been closed.  Otherwise we need to reopen the debate about whether College football has any value in its current form.

Great all in fight in the MAGS vs AGS game today with Waikato's own Kevin Fallon right in the middle beating up some kid.

What a role model.

The fact Napier and Hams both made the semis is a good indication of the strength of super8 football these days, wasn't that many years ago i dont think their was a super8 footy tournament

even though its on the footy pitch you can still get an assault charge can't you?... I have time for fights, but no time when the coach's are throwing punches

MAGS win final 3-1 against Hamilton Boys regardless of what Fallon did yesterday.
I wonder if he was allowed on the sideline today.

Latest I heard with regards to Mags-AGS game was AGS player was on ground injured on halfway maybe 5m in from touch. MAGS player booted ball into player on ground hitting him in stomach. Caused an all in brawl, MAGS keeper came screaming in, AGS player was still on ground whilst fight happening. Apparently Fallon had charges filled against him Thur night, not too sure what outcome is. That's just what I have seen and been able to piece together talking to people from other teams at tournament.

With the MAGs-WC game, WC held out for 55min before a defensive mistake allowed MAGS to score. Scoreline blewout a little towards end of game. WC could have pushed for draw-seemed to be a learning curve type of tournament. Silly mistakes cost us games, but next year should be better.

MAGS won final 3-1, with a very professional and impressive performance. Kevin Fallon was on the touchline and was also professional in his approach.

Hamilton Boys High produced a creditable performance and were unfortunate not to be closer after hitting the woodwork twice through Sam Margetts. A 3 goal margin would not have reflected HBHS efforts and the stunning consolation goal scored by Owen Ivins, after good build up play from Alex Barlow was a fitting way for them to finish the week.

A huge performance from HBHS (2006 17th, 2007 6th, 2008 2nd) and followed up by a Waikato secondary Schools Knockout Cup semi-final this morning 8-1 over Matamata.

this from the dom

A top  state school is considering police action against former All Whites coach Kevin Fallon after he allegedly took to the field and "man-handled" a player during a brawl.

Auckland Grammar may cancel tomorrow's midweek football final against arch-rivals Mt Albert Grammar, where Fallon now coaches, amid fallout from a game during a separate tournament last week.

A spectator said the match erupted into an "all-in brawl - like watching rugby league in the 1980s". But Mt Albert officials say an Auckland Grammar player assaulted Fallon, who has the school's confidence and remains on its staff.

Auckland Grammar headmaster John Morris said a "ruckus" flared up after a bad tackle on one of his players during the match at Napier's Park Island on Thursday. Fallon became involved.

"He has man-handled quite physically one of our players. I think he ended up on the ground himself because there was a whole lot of pushing and shoving."

The incident was videoed from the sideline but the footage was "not conclusive", he said.

School officials were meeting last night to decide what action to take, which could include a police complaint.

"As far as I know, coaches aren't allowed on the field and aren't allowed to man-handle players ... and to me that's fairly inappropriate behaviour," Morris said.

Fallon refused to comment yesterday. "I'm not interested in talking to anybody about it, okay? Bye bye."

Secondary Schools Football Association chairman Malcolm Cowie said the incident, which lasted just over a minute, had been investigated. Two players were sent off. Fallon had "simply restrained an opposition player, according to the referee".

"Mr Fallon and none of the other coaches or officials were cautioned or sent off. A letter is being written to both schools just pointing out our concerns about players being sent off and this sort of behaviour. We can't condone this."

A spectator said the incident brought the tournament to a standstill, involving on-field players and both team's benches. "It certainly erupted big time. Games on other fields stopped."

Fallon was in the midst of the brawl, the spectator said, "making loads of noise, grabbing people by the shirts and pushing them around".

Mt Albert headmaster Dale Burden said there were conflicting accounts, with claims that Fallon was assaulted by an Auckland Grammar player.

"Kevin was definitely hit. The difficulty is I've got people on both sides saying all different things."

sounds like the update is that they have cancelled which is a bit of a shame.
they have updated the page.
from talking to the nayland boys who played auckland gramma in their quarter
they are pretty dirty. spitting on people, elbows and punches on the corners. (real football)
plus there is so much grudge factor in the MAGs vs AG so not suprised it boiled over.
the auckland grammar staff prob decided that it was better to leave it to cool off.

Auckland Grammar scared of losing - Fallon

Hmmm, even if he's right, wouldn't he be better off not poking AGS in the eye when they are already angry?

BTW, for the record, Hamilton BHS also beat AGS (in pool play at Napier) after having been beaten by AGS in an annual school's exchange match earlier in the season.

No matter what Fallon did, assault someone or restrain someone, what the hell was he doing on the park in the first place.

Maybe the young schoolboy was giving Fallon s#*t about his 1982 world cup suit and he just couldn't take it any longer.

Hawke's Bay soccer stalwarts who were on the sidelines of last week's brawl at the premier secondary schools' tournament in Napier are unanimous that the situation wouldn't have flared up if coach Kevin Fallon hadn't stepped into the fray.

Speaking anonymously, one witness told SportToday he was standing only metres from the sideline at Park Island last Thursday afternoon when the incident flared after a crude tackle.

"It was an awful tackle from a Mt Albert Grammar (Mags) player on an Auckland Grammar boy and the Auckland player's teammate - a young, dark-skinned fellow - came from behind and lashed out," the stalwart said.

Former All White and Mt Albert coach Fallon then ran on to the pitch and "manhandled" the young player.

"All hell broke loose and Kevin ended up on his bum, mate. It was only one metre inside from the sideline in the middle of the field," the witness said, commending Auckland Grammar coach Jimmy Hogg, the father of Hawke's Bay United defender and Olympian Ian, for keeping calm.

"If a coach gets on to the park to defuse a brawl then I don't have a problem with that but Kevin actually inflamed the situation even more," he said.

Another stalwart said: "I'm a coach but I'd never contemplate touching a kid, let alone manhandling one.

"I mean we're not supposed to hit our own kids these days so to do that to someone else's kid is crazy."

Another witness said Fallon ended up on the ground, with his spectacles off and in a spot of bother as a player turned on him in the free-for-all brawl involving at least four players from each team.

That incident has led to the cancellation of today's showpiece finale to the Auckland season between the long-time rivals.

Auckland Grammar have pulled out of the Knockout Cup final with the blessing of their school executive and board.

Headmaster John Morris said on Monday: "This reluctant decision is the result of a most unfortunate incident involving the Mags coach Kevin Fallon in a semifinal game between the two schools in Napier.

"This decision has not been taken lightly. Indeed, the school left the decision up to the players, who felt the nature of this particular incident, as well as previous ones involving Mr Fallon, meant this was the most appropriate action."

Mt Albert Grammar won the semifinal game with both sides having a player sent off. They went on to win the final. Later that day, the NZ Secondary Schools Football Association suspended the two players for one match, but took no action against Fallon.

Mt Albert Grammar head Dale Burden said he had received varied accounts, including one that intimated Fallon had been assaulted.

Sport Hawke's Bay, who organised the event in conjunction with Central Soccer, denounced the onfield violence.

Secondary schools' development officer Tina Arlidge said: "We disapprove of violence in any sport."

Central Soccer CEO Milene Haakman said, while they were tournament controllers, the matter was for the secondary schools' council to deal with and it had done so last Thursday by handing out one-match suspensions to the schoolboys who had been red-carded on the field.

As a coach its sad to think this guy had a crack at them. IMHO I wouldn't touch another player. If something broke out and my boy started or reacted to it them i'd drag his ass away but the other team is out of my control! Hopefully this gets cleared up and doesn't leave a sour taste for highschool football (but I have to note it would be two auckland teams wouldn't it)
