Last I heard they have pulled the pin on the Northern League. Clubs including Albany, Birkenhead, East Coast Bays, Glenfield Rovers, North Shore from the Northern Premier League. Didn't like that lot from that side of the bridge anyway. Now some of their players will get to join decent teams. US1 cited increasing costs to their clubs, no-one makes them fork out the dollars on players they do. Will be interesting to see the make up of the leagues now!!!

Watch this space.  Nearly all of the US 1 clubs are against this move and wish to stay in the Northern League.  I'm not sure how US 1 who are supposed to represent the clubs can make this decision.  This isn't just a US 1 problem now because if they remove the clubs it weakens the whole Northern League as the quality will be diminished. Chinese Anyone makes a good point about the players going to Soccer 2 clubs.  Maybe the US 1 people didn't think about this cos with all the best players leaving to play else where means their new US 1 league would be awful.  Complete Muppets. Can we vote them out?

Heard today that there will be a Northern League next year. It will either be in one of two formats
1: AFF and Waikato/Bop league with 2 x 10 divs
2: As above with US1 teams invited to join if they like, and thus need permission from US1 with 2 x 12 divs

The US1 board are adamant that they will have their own Prem league next year, just don't think the clubs are okay with it.

US 1 becomes social soccer - gap between NZFc and next level becomes greater. Club soccer in NZ increasingly marginalised - sounds a bit like some other sports in Nz where clubs are dying ?
