2007        Central League                 Currently 3rd
2006        Central League                 4th
2005        Central League                 2nd
2004        Federation Premier           2nd
2003        Federation Premier           4th
2002        Federation Premier           10th (Marist declined promotion for 2003 season)
2001        Federation Premier            5th
2000        Federation Premier            5th
1999        North Island League          10th
1998        Central League                  5th
1997        Central League                  2nd

Ok....so in the last 10 years Olympics average final league position in the "top league" of the given year is........5.2.......now you can't finish 5.2 in the league so using the Swedish rounding system you would round DOWN to 5.......so 5th......thats the average finishing position for the Greeks.

im not "picking" on anyone my yellow fever brethren! just callin it straight.

Olympic are a GREAT club and have some great lads in the team, do not get me wrong! the passion they bring is massive and nothing much beats playing Olympic @ Newtown or anywhere for that matter. I had my best game in a Wests shirt against Olympic, it was my run-on debut and it was a buzz......2001 @ Newtown Park, I had to mark Steve McMahon and got smashed in a tackle by Jason Musgrove.......wouldnt trade it for the world!

Good luck to anyone playin football on the weekend, see u at Bell 2mrw Jiz08 ;)

You have a personal footy anecdote for every occassion Barber. When I am standing next to you at the Ring of Fire I want you to promise that you will concentrate on the game at hand for ninety minutes please, and not compare an Aloisi tackle to one that was done on you at Endeavour Park in 2002..

Wow, so much heated discussion over Olympic, im impressed.

At the end of the day Olympic posses the skill and determination to compete in the Central League and the supporters are second to none.

And Barber appriacte your acknowledgement, but do the stats say that arguably Newtown park aginst the Greeks is one of the hardest crowds/grounds to play in front with the team giving 200%????

Uncle Steve Olympic have lost some very big games at home so not sure that all that counts.
Miramar this year(3-2) and last year(5-2).West last year(5-2).Marist in the Semi's of the cup just to name a few.
Once you get ahead of olympic by 2 goals it is common knowlage in wellington that you will go on and win.Its what everyone talks about before going out to play them....just what I have heard.

I love your supporters and the passion im not bashing you guys here its just the word on the street and around those water coolers at work.

Olympic are now sitting in a good position which should improve after next weeks games. Than I'm afraid they will struggle to get another win and will slide down the table to finish outside the top 4.

Hey Da Boss, I hope that fires a few up. It would be great for the club to finish in the top 3 not only for the players (young lads) but also for your few loyal supporters. Building up to be an interesting few weeks ahead.

Top 4 would be a great achievement for the club considering how many players we have lost and how well we have put a new team together and new coach. We have got a young side with a few experienced players like Barry Simon and Raf. The thing to remember is that this year we have got alot of greeks in the team so they will stay with the club for a long time therefor this team will only get better! They do not play for money because most of them are not even being paid and those who r rather there money go to the club then themselves. Dont see many players from other clubs doing that. However id like to see a HUUUGGGEE turnout against Stop Out at Newtown Park on Sunday please as this is Barry Lewis's 100th game!!! He has been an extremely loyal player to the club and even though he comes last in every fitness run he is still one of the best defenders in the league!!

Come and experience this greek crowd!! with our new introduction thanks to Peter Carras: The drum!

Costa = 17, Andrew (gk) =18ish, Georga Baba = 19, Gerondis = 19, Anthony = 21ish i thnk, Mikey = 21, Chaz = 21, Jimmy = 23ish.

Thats who i can think of that are really young and will not leave the club! Yes Jimmy went to Miramar back in the day but now that he starts and more greeks r in the team he will stay. I think most players that do leave want to come back caz they do not realise the support they get and how good the atmosphere is.

Well with olympic back into it and, with Olympic having to Play Miramar, i can say that we are looking to finish second and anything less than third will be a dissapointment. Not expecting to beat miramar but looking for it to be a close one.

interesting comment Jiz08 who do you believe would be the right person? Olympic have had quite a few different coaches over the last few years and none of them have produced the goods either hence my question is, is it the coach or the players within the club? I havent seen many games this year but looking at there results obviously they are there, there abouts and in reading some of the other comments it looks like they are rebuilding as in having alot of younger players so what is expected? West buy alot of players and as such will always be up there as do Miramar I know the greeks use to but do they still?
Interesting thoughts. what does it cost to run a top team these days ie how much is being paid to these so called special players and how many of them are getting $$$.

Harsh comment Feverish. On paper the team this year isn't as strong as in the past but the spirit and team unity is definitely a lot better hence why the team is doing quite well. Obviously a team will bond moreso when you're not bringing in new players midway through the season
and disrupting patterns etc.

I think if you look back to last year we did well early on in the season then for some reason once NZFC players came into the fold the team went pear shape. I'm not pointing the finger at those players but its hard for a team to continue to do well when some players dont' really want to be there or are there for the wrong reasons -  $$$$

Hi Feverish, as an Olympic supporter I take your comments as a "bait"....and yes I accept the fact that this is your opinion. It will be nice to be able to see what facts help you form this opinion.
An whilst you do that perhaps you can tell us how many teams have taken full points at Napier as well as 2 points (2 draws) of Wests.....?

Yeah it was pretty much a baiting exercise, but I think I agree with myself. Looking at the bench that came on for the dull Wests game, you guys are lacking depth. In previous years you wouldnt have put on a player who just arrived from Rugby League Park. Your teams of previous years would be doing better. Good on you for not throwing the cheque book around this year (or that may have been forced). When you do that, players will just move on to the next club (Wests) when it dries up.

Maybe I am just being shallow and looking at your individuals rather than how you are functioning as a team. Nice to hear there is a good mood in the camp though, after fleeting visits by superstars rocked the boat last year.

Is it just me, or is the league weaker this year? A few guys not playing, and all the cream seems to be at Wests or Miramar - thus their reserve teams performing admirably in their grades.

It is true that both Wests and Miramar dove into their checkbooks this season in order to buy another trophie. Not condemming them or anything, just wanting to make a point that thats why they have depth.

Olympics lack of depth is a problem and this is ONE reason why i think we are doing a lot less that what we could achieve. I think tactics wise we lack, but skill, spirit and drive we have all the time.

We need to make the right changes at the right times, for example because of the lack of depth our bench isnt star packed, and thus our composure and concentration lapses in the final 20mins (where we concede the most).

If we can get the right people / players in place for next season you can look for us to compete for the number one spot next season.

Who have Miramar thrown their chequebook at?  Dicey and Dominic decided to leave Wellington United and chose to come to Rangers, without being offered anything.  Apart from that, it is the same team as last year.

I see "throwing your chequebook" as being what the greeks did last year when they signed Robbo and all the Manawatu players 3/4 of the way throught the season, when they thought they could win the Chatham Cup.

Hi jiz08, well... as for the fall out it was really onesided and yes "you pay for your mistakes", this year was going to be a change of tack, and indeed things have started changing ( Long way to go...), there is a lot more "club feeling' around and hopefully that will help with changes, yes we have some short comings in some positions within the squad but ah, no one is perfect...the most important things is that recently (and under the new coach) the squad is looking more of a "team" instead of a bunch of individuals.
Any placing within the top 4 will be great.

Oh come on Chops your getting paid to say that and Raf doesn't play for nothing. So Olympic is still throwing money round just the same sign ons match payments etc etc but only on 5 or 6 players. It's a well known fact the top five clubs in Welly pay The league positions reflect the spending come year end except Lower Hutt they always underperform based on the money they spend

Hell, I have to go back 4-5 years for a sign on fee. Yes there are a few players making a little bit more than others as is the case with most the teams in the league but at the end of the day those getting that little bit more ( at Olympic anyway - I can't answer for others)  still play with passion and pride for the club which is what its all about. You won't see them swapping clubs when they don't get what they want

And how can you lie straight in bed when you say you have to go back years for a sign on

Can't match it - we all know Olympic have paid big money in the past but that has stopped. Wests, Hutt, gissy and (Miramar to a lesser degree) are the big spenders and good on them if they want to buy trophies.

And I have no problem lying straight in bed although might have to move to Wests as I could do with  a new one
