Ref's discretion - abandoning games?
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

OK, I know of one game in the Wellington region that wasn't played, a kids match, after one of the coaches said that there was no point in playing in the strong wind.

I wonder if at the senior level any games have ever not started or been abandoned due to the wind? I've seen refs abandon matches because of waterlogged pitcches but do they have the discretion to call off a match for high winds?

No reason why not

Laws of the Game state

Law 5
Decision 1
A referee (or where applicable, an assistant referee or fourth offi cial)
is not held liable for:
any kind of injury suffered by a player, official or spectator
any damage to property of any kind
any other loss suffered by any individual, club, company, association
or other body, which is due or which may be due to any decision that
he may take under the terms of the Laws of the Game or in respect of
the normal procedures required to hold, play and control a match.
This may include:
a decision that the condition of the field of play or its surrounds or
that the weather conditions are such as to allow or not to allow a
match to take place
a decision to abandon a match for whatever reason

If players are struggling to stand still upright and dead balls are being blown across the pitch - then you cant expect the game to be played in a safe (or non farcical) manner. Replaying the match in better conditions seems eminently more sensible.

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!
