Was the send off code(s) on your Team card / Match Information sheet? (doesn't sound like a match report will be submitted by the ref)
he just doesn't want to send it in so he doesn't look like an idiot when it gets appealed. That's a shocker.
Allegedly
refs don't need to submit match reports usually (as all the info is on team cards now), but would for certain send off codes....
Seems like this would only be able to come under R14 (Assault of a match official) or R15 (Send-off not previously specified) if he deemed it to not be assault but still worthy of a red. Both of which require the referee to send in a seperate incident report describing what happened.
Yellow Fever - Misery loves company
would be a bit harsh to call it assault of a match official he basically ran into the back of the ref while watching the ball said sorry and continued chasing the ball. the ref did not get hurt and did not fall to the ground.
As a ref I have had this happen many times particularly in women's games as they seem less aware of their surroundings never sent anyone off or batted an eye lid these things happen.
Rather frustrated by one particular ref we have had 2 weeks in a row. First week he shows up ten mins after kick off. Second week he shows up as we are kicking off when he had am assessor appointed. He then made some very very dubious calls including pulling me up for a hand ball with my back to him from accross the field ypu could clearly see the mud imprint on my man tity.
Young fella so I'll give him a break and trust he is going to get better but just so frustrating!!

I'm sure that the Assessor would have had a 'quiet word' in his ear about turning up on time, if nothing else.
Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Yup we started with the player who had put his hand up to ref while the assessor took him away from the field for a chat before they returned ten mins later

Disappointed in the approach by refs who have been appointed to games but don't turn up. There are reasons why they are not able to attend. But notifying someone in advance would be considerate. Particularly where teams travel to play.
Notification in advance will improve the relationship when this occurs. Always happy to make arrangements in the event of a no show.
Refs turning up hungover is another story.
alright there was a club meeting i did not attend and central football seem to be backing their ref on this one. one of our players has been given a large fine and a 4 week ban for questioning the ref,s decision to send the player off who accidently ran into him. the player who ran into the ref is still being investigated even though someone has it on video that shows exactly what happened, so he may still get a ban, the ref has put in a report that was nothing like the incident. he says he was surrounded by players and felt very threatened and intimidated. total joke the whole thing. the worst part is our club is now trying to say we have brought the club into disrepute and are deciding to maybe throw us out of the club.
this is now totally out of hand when all we want to do is play some football in a local competition and we are being shafted by our club and central football over an accident where nobody got hurt and an apology was made for the accidental running into the ref.

did not see the team sheet after the game but it seems the ref did put in a match report.

We had a Ref turn up for our Div 3 game for Mainland - first time all season. He was a real champ too. Solid calls, outstanding in explaining his decisions. The whole game flowed well - would have no issues if he turned up to ref ours or anyones games.
I let my guitar speak for me
And that was probably from your own supporters :)
Got a yellow card a couple weeks ago for laughing at a ref's decision. Was genuinely hilarious, most the players on the pitch had a laugh. I didn't even argue the decision just set up for the free kick but couldn't help myself as the other players were laughing. Felt kind of bad about it bit wondered if that's even in the rules?
Fuck this stupid game

One thing I would say is that I've felt a real lack of consistency across the board. I accept that referees, like players, have their own strengths and weaknesses. But having played as high as Capital 1 and as low as 15, I think there could be more consistency, especially where cards are concerned.
I have played in really rough games, with studs up challenges every 50/50 ball and no cards issued. I have played in the most relaxed social game, in Cap 5-6, where a timid sliding tackle was sanctioned with a red. I have seen elbows and punches thrown, with no action taken. And I have seen players sent off for shouting "It was't off-side".
I really don't envy refs, and I admire them for giving up their time (often copping abuse and threats in the process) so that we can play the game. But I think more could be done (by CF? More training? I admit I don't know the process used to coach referees presently) to have more uniform standards of refereeing.

Edit.
I guess that is a quality vs quantity trade off. If you forced referees to attend the training, you'd lose quantity but gain quality.
But I think you're right in that you'd lose too much quantity to justify the slight increase in quality. Maybe if more people volunteered to referee that'd change. A good start is to not abuse referees on weekends, I reckon that's a massive reason why people don't put their hand up to do it (I know it is for me - it's not worth the grief).

Agree with both Tegal and Yackall.
Hat off to all these poor buggers who show up every Saturday, rain or shine, and who do mostly a terrific job.
One thing I thought about a lot in my 8 or so seasons here in Wellington is that, should there be more uniformity in terms of bookable offences (and I think personally cards should be given out a lot more than they are), CF would actually increase its revenue substantially.
I'm obviously not advocating for refs to give out cards just because that brings money into CF coffers, but perhaps:
Rules enforced more uniformly = Less chance of injury = Standards of on-field conduct become better known and accepted = Less whining and abuse for referees = Better playing experience = More $$$ = More referees training opportunities = Increased referee output = Rules enforced more uniformly.
I may be way out of my league, but I think it's a win-win situation. As I mentioned, having played from competitive-train four times a week football to show up 20' before the game and hit shots at your keeper as a warm up footy (as well as having played overseas) I think footballers here are very ill-disciplined and not enough cards are given in most games. Also, I think many refs here are afraid to really take ownership of the game and to stop things from escalating, which coupled with the above mentioned ill-discipline, makes for some pretty rough games.
Again, I think it's important to say that more training and better enforced rules would result in a more enjoyable environment, both for players and refs.

Any chance of you putting up the video so we can see what we make of it?
sorry i have to go down the nz football route as i have talked to our legal team and they feel i should not release the footage while the appeal is still being worked through. plus i do not have the footage it is on someones wifes cell phone.

This is a problem you hear/see every week, what one referee thinks is a card another might think was just a tough challenge. Players have to almost work out what kind of referee they have in the first 10 mins to see what they can get away with.
Its hard as a referee as you want to let the game flow too and not be accused of "Making it all about the referee".
One thing I think rugby has right (at least at high level) is the respect players seem to have for the referee, you will hardly see them argue with a referee. On a side note, I would love sin bins in football. You would find that used more and earlier than red cards which affect teams for a whole game.

sin bins have been used in the masters games the last few years and seems to work reasonably well.
I used the unofficial 'forced sub' rule in cap 9 when It was my turn to referee earlier in the season. It's a good one for social grades at least.

...and what player was that Tegal?
![]()
Boxey in fact was harshly done by there. The opposition player should have gone and we stopped him killing him so he was actually fine if a little angry.
Had to send one from both sides to keep the peace!
He still hasn't spoken to me since...

+1 knowing the rules would be a good start - how many players know that *attempting* to trip/kick/strike etc is still a foul for example?
There are no rules in Football we have "Laws of the Game"
