Yesterday i played in a U17s game in the auckland premier division.
There was about 1minute to go in the game.A cross came over bounced
a defender missed it, it bounced up for me ...halfway through my
shot the referee blew his whistle...i relaxed...then shot and
scored...
Under present rules - there is nothing to stop the referee blowing up for half/full time in such a scenario - but refs are usually advised to use a bit of discretion and not blow up where there's a clear goal-scoring opportunity. The best time to blow up in your scenario (in my opinion) would be if it went out for a goal kick fro mthe shot - or as soon as the defending team got an upfield clearance - or straight after the restart after the goal had been awrded.
Some ridiculiously officious father did it to me...when I was 9 or
10 in the Coastlands cup. Ball in the air after I had shot
and he blew it up. I honestly could not believe it, 9 or 10
years old!! It was a screamer as well

I've been a referee for over 10 years and I would never allow myself to be put in that position. The letter of the law states that when time's up it's up but, as others have said, a bit of discretion should be used.
There is a famous example of this happening with the Welsh referee
Clive Thomas. It was in the 1978 World Cup. He gave a corner to
Brazil in injury time, they took the corner, somebody got a
head on it and he blew for full time as the ball was heading into
the net. I'm sure Graham Poll did the same thing fairly recently in
a game involving Australia

Coastlands cup, now there was a trophy worth winning!!
One of the best rules ever, in the final if it was equal at full
time you could win the game by getting a corner. Delightfully
ridiculous!! Those gold and maroon pennants you got were all
class!!
HHAHA hes like a young ref like earli 20's.Probly a nice guy.But
hes given our team like 8 yellow cards in 3 games. And weve only got
9 cards this season
I can understand being a bit pissed off- but, as you point out, he is a young ref, and still learning. hard enough job without being given too much sh*te. they make mistakes- just like players- part of the game, frustrating though it is. bloody hard to get people into refereeing, and good that someone young is giving it a go.
just make sure you drill one into the bottom left hand corner next match he referees(and hit it a bit earlier!)

what do u make of this?
Is this wrong?Should a referee be able to finish the game when a team has a goal-scoring oppurtunity?
please post your views

Wow. This is the first tim I've heard something like this
happening. I've seen, and been involved in games, where refs blow
the whistle before a corner or a free kick is taken, and I always
thought that such instances were frowned upon by players. I'm no
referee and don't know whether the rules say anything about this
other than that the ref is the only official time-keeper, but my
experience generally, both as a fan/spectator and a player, is that
if a team is in a promising or scoring position, they usually allow
the play to continue even if it means going 20-30 seconds overtime.
So I think you got ripped off.
What team is this?
Ellerslie vs uhm foresthill ...Yer its kinda crazy.Honestly
thought but to the referee what is lik half a second more?It was a
free shot on goal with no defenders marking...Cmon

Awful decision, unfortunately get them all the time at our level
mate.

Top locker!
I've played in the odd game where an officious father has played
over and above the prescribed time to let a side win... that pisses
me off when player-refs do it as well

Yeah - Zico for Brazil versus Sweden. Ref blew the
whistle at 1-1 after the corner had been taken and just a moment
before Zico headed it home. It was a shocker.

have to love You Tube
ahaha mate this brings me back to when us NZ Greeks went all da way
to Sydney to play agains Some top Australian sides. We were playing
Western Australia and George Babarouses shot inside the peno area
and the ref blew his whistle and we drew 3-3. If he allowed that
goal we woulda progressed. Im sure u can not call the whistle when
the team is on attack like that.
Coastlands cup, now there was a trophy worth winning!!
Pavlos, through the strict letter of the law you can, as set
out above, referees are able to take some licence and probably
shouldn't stop the game at that position.

Couldn't agree more. Brilliant times at the C Cup. The mighty
Onslow Junior Soccer Club used to dominate that

Rubbish - Karori Bears, three successive trophies.
Mind you, once won on corners in extra time. Now getting
goals from corners changes some serious tactical fundamentals at
the back.

I remember our rivalry with Karori Forest, they beat us in the
final in '89 but we avenged it in '90 when we knocked them out in a
chance quarter final meeting and went all the way.

SNAP
We won it with Onslow a couple of years in a row, then the 3rd year
i scored an own goal in the semi and we lost. Devastating for
everyone involved
In my opinion from past experience, the refs normally keep
play going if a team is in a scoring opportunity.I think the
ref should of blowen the whistle after the goal was scored, what a
ripoff. If i was you i would of been really pissed off, i
hope you said something about it. quality20002007-07-16 22:21:16
Ross Let has done it to me and I questioned why he did it and
he said to me "He is in charge and can blow the whistle anytime HE
wants to" then gave me a yellow card.Score was 0-0 at the time to
and I scored or in this case did not.
was that the one you ballooned over the bar Roy?

Never happemed to me, you never get forward enough to be in
this position im guessing.
HAHAHA yer i gave him a word or a few hunderd lol.Our team was
appauled all around the ref. swearing and carrying on.Then he tried
to give use yellow cards...but we asked him "oH mate but i thought
the game was over?so give us a yellow card and the goal counts...he
then put his cards back in his pocket!
What a rooky ref, he could give you cards when your in the changing
room. haha. It would of been worth a yellow talking back, prob not
a red tho.

Sorry mate but the Ref is the sole judge of time, Tough
on the players and never popular with the team denied a goal, flip
side of the coin is that the opposition probably were,nt to upset.
Doesnt help you much.

You don't say whether it was a winning goal, an equaliser, or
you just fancied getting your name on the scoresheet (not that it
should matter). So what was the result?
OH
sorry it was 0-0 AND that would have won it
0-0 with FH? LOL their sh*te!
