just tonight I was talking to a couple of girls who had been on his holiday programme and they said it was poo. Unorganised - like they took a five minute break that lasted an hour. A couple of teenage coaches who were fairly new to the 'academy'. And then someone else mentions that Ricki is away for the Dallas Cup (US) and about five of the lads who went over couldn't play in the tournament because it turns out they are too old! Disappointing.

LOL.

I wonder if whoever organised the trip fell into the old trap. America still has soccer age groups based on College (academic) years. So August to July rather than January to December.

Parents who paid to go and whose kids couldn't play must be pissed.

Oh wow!!! That is serious face palm material there.

I'd hate to be one of those parents. I wonder what they were told? Surely you would think there would be something in the competition entry form that says your kid must be under age X by a certain date...

perhaps he has employees who cannot understand basic english like "and later" like CF seems to have when it comes to "competition finished" as i am sure he will say it was not his fault.

good sportsmanship and fair playing field is all we ask for

An understatement if ever there was one.

Side only had 11 players allowed to compete , finished third in their pool. Have played a number of pick up games however. Will not change the mood of paying parents whose children did not paerticiapte in the 'real' comp however.

i don't hate capital football as a whole just the way they treat there stake holders and work in a cloaked manner instead of open and transparent like most clubs who are incorparated societies do.
This i feel is wrong and won't get fixed unless we keep up the pressure by keeping them in check like smithy and feverish and others do so well and from comments made by the NW coach at the after match speech after the Karori game it seems to be hitting home.

i am sure your players who did show up for the after match can inform you and probably have but lets just say he was disappointed he could not rub shoulders with feverish on the day…….

i was back late to the club so i don't really want to comment on all that went down on the day as i may of missed some bits……

i think your boys even got a toastie or two….

Dear Kaizen Family

A wonderful opportunity has arisen which will benefit the Kaizen Academy. So it’s with great pleasure that I can announce that I have been approached to be the Central Coast Mariners Head of Youth. This position includes Head Coach of the CCM Foxtel National Youth Team as well as the Director of Youth Development for the U20s and 18s. The role also oversees the Technical Director of the CCM Academy U16s – U12s.

I will be working daily with Head Coach Phil Moss and Assistant Wayne O’Sullivan on a daily basis with the A League squad also.

My mandate is to Scout and develop players who are capable to play A League Football, also to scout and develop players to sell on.

I have accepted the offer and my appointment will begin later this month.

What does this mean for you all and the Kaizen Academy?

Well firstly: The Central Coast Mariners want to establish their brand in Wellington and New Zealand. Great News!!

The Kaizen Academy will continue and I will directly oversee the training programs and the appointment of the best possible coaches to deliver the programs. Some of the coaches, Jamie, Poasa, John, Jake and Jeremy (Conditioning trainer) you already know and have been working with the boys over recent years.

I will be relocating to NSW but I want to assure you that I will continue to have all boys’ best development interest at heart. I will be commuting 3 times this term as we transition. The Wellington Academy is a wonderful spearhead opportunity for Central Coast Mariners and I will be personally overseeing and ensuring its continued success.

Kaizen will fall under the Central Coast Mariners "Academy Umbrella" and accordingly the programs will mirror what we will be doing with the central coast mariners Academy in Australia . These changes will further help ensure the boys are receiving the best possible training to best prepare them for their footballing futures.

It is a very exciting opportunity for the boys as it gives them a direct formal link with the most successful A-league sides in Australia and one that has the only genuine pathway from U12s – A league.

We will be looking to give as many boys as possible opportunities for them to succeed in the Programs at the Central Coast Mariners and attached to the Central Coast Mariners. Opportunities for some of them that will lead them to train and trial in the Australian leagues which CCM participate in, which includes the Foxtel National Youth League as well as the State National premier league.

We will be running CCM programs in Wellington initially, overseen and directed by CCM staff. Enabling Kaizen Players and teams to participate in CCM initiate tournaments and events.

Also, Kaizen as you know has developed relationships with Clubs, Universities and other Organisations in England, Germany, Italy and the USA. And in coming months we will be announcing new formalised partnerships and a structured programs and pathways for the boys so that they can play against, train with and trial for some of the most prestigious 1st divisions clubs in the world as well as some of the most go ahead second tier clubs in each of those countries as well as University pathways.

It’s an exciting time for Kaizen and the increased number of pathways that Kaizen will bring to talented committed hard working footballers who prescribe to our philosophy of hard work and continuous improvement that we know will ultimately result in success for them.

I look forward to updating you further on developments. To that accord we will be revamping our website to reflect the changes and to help provide an improved platform for keeping everyone informed.

If you have any questions or queries please don’t hesitate to contact me.

I send through details for our Term 3 Academy and also an update on our overseas tours that will now take place in December and January – we are very committed to these.

My thanks goes out to all the Players and Parents who have played their part in establishing and developing the Kaizen Brand and also your very own brand. I personally would also like to thank the staff for their hard work and dedication to drive the Kaizen Philosophy.

There are without doubt some extremely exciting times ahead.

All the best Stu Jacobs

I have heard some fairly unsurprising reports about this academy as well from a family member.  Coaching standards are fairly mixed and there is the usual stuff about getting players into the academy so they can claim credit for their production.  At one point the Wellington College first XI went on a tour as a RH Academy XI paid for.  Then the next season they were all invited back but the bill was $1500.

my 7 year old did a 2-session course with them and it was very well done, but nowhere near ole.

ricki was there, but just really to show his face. his son kale ran it and was very impressive.  a couple of the other coaches were also good, but a couple were complete drips.

as for this dallas cup screw up... there's a lesson in this for everyone here - talk to smithy before you enrol your kid on any tour.

edit: smithy's hourly rate is reasonable...

Is not.

I admire what Stu has managed to do with Kaizen. He's gotten smart about getting good people around him and in John Masseurs and Jamie O'Conner he's starting to build a team that's both smart and capable. He's a decent coach Stu, and a good bloke. I wish him all the success.

RHFA is a bit directionless by comparison.

Ole still best in class in New Zealand imho.

For out of towners. How does Ole compare to this new APFA in Wellington? (Granted it is only just up and running)

If I had a choice I'd send my son to Ole.

I like the folks at APFA/WPX though. I just think that currently Ole is better. Better facilities, more experienced coaches, more consistent delivery of outcomes for players.

I think APFA are still working their way back to the quality of programme they had in Christchurch. But I haven't seen what they're doing in Wellington first hand - so that is just based on people I know who have kids there.

I'm really keen to hear any thoughts on the RHFA seeing as my boy has been asked to attend trials for an academy starting up in Kapiti.

We've had no experience but have heard the stories about the holiday programs being both badly organised and poorly run. Given the costs I'm hoping this will turn out to be much better.

Bad news travels faster than good, so I'm keen to hear if people have had good experiences.

Smithy, would you recommend the Ole Skill Builders courses for an 11 year old ?

Ricki Herbert Football Academy about an hour ago

RHFA would like to congratulate Ricki Herbert on his new head coaching position at North East United FC in the new Indian Super League.

Ricki flew out this morning and is really excited about the opportunity. The Super League only runs for 4 and a half months meaning Ricki will be back later this year.

We wish you all the best Ricki.

I work with an Indian guy who's followed East Bengal previously (only found out the other week re: Leo's signing), and he knows a bit about the game over there. He reckons Ricki will be close to around $200,000 NZ in earnings. There's an obscene amount of money being spent. Of course, this is only unofficially unconfirmed speculation however ...
