Quarter final action today. Danny Hay's Sacred Heart controversially beat home team Nayland College on penalties. After scoring the first seconds Nayland took the lead through Solomon Islander Gagame Feni. But Sacred Heart scored late in the second half to take the game to extra time. After a few days of wet weather the pitch they played on was terribly muddy with players falling over time and time again. But the controverial call came late in the penalty shootout when NZ U17 goalie Coey Turipa saved a shot to win the game. the crowd went crazy until the linesman had rulled that Coey had moved off his line too early and the shot was to be taken again. This time making no mistake Sacred Heart scored and in result ended up winning the game when the 10th Nayland player to take his turn hit the cross bar. Many people think there is conspiracies around that they always wanted Auckland teams in the final but theres no way Coey Turipa went off his line too early.

Where did the Wellington teams come?

None of the Wellington teams have made the top 8.  Wellington College look likely to finish strongest, heading for 9-12.  HIBS also finishing well, and also in that 9-12 frame, depending on results tomorrow they could end up playing each other for 9th and 10th.  Tawa have done well too, I think they're in the next bracked, 12-16.  No idea about Rongotai.  Onslow are down playing off for 20-24 after losing twice today.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

You can view the results at http://www.nzssfootball.co.nz/

Tawa lost their first playoff game to Shirley and beat St Peters (Auckland) in the afternoon so they are playing off for 17th-20th.

Rongotai playing off for 25th-32nd, not sure how they did today.Oranje2009-09-02 21:43:13

Nope MAGS will take it out again. What about the girls College tournament up in Napier. Just been up there for two days and the quality of the footy is surprisingly very good, especially from the top 8 teams. MAGs might take out both the boys and the girls. They are so dominant in all there sport now. Saw Rosie White playing for Diocesan and she was good but there were a lot of other girls around that I would say are as good as her if not better and she was Womans footballer of the year or something wasn't she? Womans soccer in nz definately looking good

MAGS haven't been as dominant in the Auckland comp this year although they did win it again  Latest loss was to AGS 3-0 in the knock out cup a week ago.  Might be a chance for someone else for a change.

MAGS should win, sacred heart were very lucky to go through and palmy didn't look as convincing in pool play.

And MAGS actually lost there quarters yesterday in the girls tourney so there goes both teams winning it. Angus mate, seriously I didn't think the quality would be that high. But there were like 5 or 6 teams that were very good and had players that had a much better touch than you haha. Nah but seriously I thought there were a lot of girls as good as Rosie White and if shes meant to be up and coming then it looks good for womans football. Don't get me wrong though Rosie was class.

Well done Dave Edmondson on coaching another team to a cup final. Surely one of NZ's top local coaches.

Three for me, and two for them.

The HBHS win was all the more significant for the nature of their come-back,  after being 0-3 down after only 20 minutes, to a classy Palmy side that won the Super-8 comp a month or so back.

in the playoff for 5th-8th
Nayland 2-2 Tauranga Boys at full time, Nayland won 5-4 on penalties after NZ U17 goalie Coey Turipa saved a Tauranga shot and then kicked the winner himself.
Auckland Grammar beat Westlake 2-1 in the other 5th-8th playoff semi.

So tomorrow it's Nayland vs Auckland Grammar for 5th-6th and Tauranga vs Westlake for 7th-8th

HIBS have done really well.

The silver lining to Onslow's results is that we'll get home for the Phoenix...all part of the plan you see.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Hibs and coll playing off for 9th and 10th ... who cares, regardless of who wins 9th/10th is a failing. I saw coll play a couple of times this year, they looked quality, either the standard of secondary school football in this country is on the improve or its just a sh*t showing from coll, or a mix of both.

Nah mate have to disagree with that comment. Wellington competition in general this year has been a disappointed. I have seen quite a few games this year and the standard definately isnt as good as it used to be hence none of the Wellington school getting to the quarters. It's been like this for the last couple of years with no Wellington teams getting in the top 6 I think. Last year that the Wellington sides did well was in 2005 when Tawa came 3rd and Wellington College came 4th

9th is Coll's forte. im pretty sure we finished 9th three times in a row back in my day (actually, were on target for 9th before tournie snowed out the last time).

I'm sure a drop in performance (allegedly)doesn't necessarily equate to any less pride.

Well done to all the Wellington teams, no matter where you came...I'm sure you gave it a good shot.

Gagame Feni from Nayland College had an amazing tournament. Although he's a solomon islander he would easily make the starting line up for NZ U17's. MAGS were definitely the best team at the tournament and deserved to win but credit to hometown Nayland College who were the top co-ed team. And due to a pretty suspect call from the linesman were knocked out earlier than they derserved. All bias aside living in Nelson it's good to see some quality from a college outside of Auckland.

well done, kind of topic that typifies sport in this country. I'm sorry but for a strong footballing school such as coll, the goal at a bare minimum should have been top 8. If it wasnt, then I dont see the point in being in the prem tournament, go to rex dawkins and make up numbers with the other mickey mouse schools

Also think it was a bit over the top when the coaching staff from Sacred Heart yelled "Kill them, kill them!" to their team during a corner kick.

WTF? I'm sure their goal was top 8. It only takes the odd bad result (infact, even the odd draw) to tumble down a few ranks in those competitions, as I'm sure you know.

As for your 'typifying sport in this country' shot...a sweeping generalisation that really does not stand up to any sort of scrutiny.

MAGS vs Hamilton Boys Final two years running.

MAGS clearly a class act in schoolboy football but great to see Ham Boys make consecutive finals under Dave Edmonson's coaching.
