University have a great Masters team and a whole bunch of "older teams" who have been around for up to 30 years. So plenty of all farts to get to know and share stories about hip replacements and false teeth! :D
Besides, if you have any skills whatsoever you'll probably even have a go at our first team ahahah! we have a few oldies, as well as baby-faced freshmen in our first/second team!

Couldn't resist.

Surge your closest option from Thorndon is definitely University.  Then Wharfies.  Then your choice of Wellington United, Island Bay, and North Wellington who are all about the same distance (in terms of travel to games).

Of those probably Island Bay and Wharfies have the pick of facilities and both are good sized clubs with good atmos and decent clubbies.

Do many clubs around have 'social teams' for us unfit overweight buggers who want to play for fitness and a bit of fun?

I am interested in joining a club, in the Hutt Valley somewhere, if they'll take me :P

Every club has social teams I think.
Check out the fixtures on soccer.org.nz.  The links page on the same site will tell you where the club's site is, the site will give you contacts to ask questions - or the appropriate thread here, eg cap 16, will probably quickly answer any Qs if you give more specific info if you specify where exactly in the Hutt you are.  Eastbourne, Petone, Wainui, Stop Out, Lower Hutt, Naenae, Stokes Valley and Upper Hutt are the clubs you're looking for - apologies if I've missed any.
