I may be behind the times, but, was a little concerned with the article in this weeks Hutt News about the Councils Plans for this wonderful set up at Fraser Park, and one that Lower Hutt have somehow wandered up the Valley and set up shop, can anyone shed any light on the situation, where does this leave the likes of Nae Nae,or from reading the article any other small Clubs from a number of different codes?, has there been consultation? and if there has I apologize, however reading that article makes me wonder.

Ther's been heaps of consultion with sports clubs and a few large documents produced by the council on the matter. They have been trying to force these sports clusters on lots of sporting clubs without much success so far.
On your LHFC comment, they have hardly "wandered up the valley" as they have been based at Fraser Park for many years. It's just there underused club rooms that are elsewhere.

Really, that surprises me that they have been based somewhere else from where there Clubrooms are, has Nae Nae been given the option to join this "sportsville"?
So is Lower Hutt going to move there "under utilised clubrooms " to Sportsville, and then can Nae Nae, and Stokes Valley   all move there clubrooms there? and have there own idenity? to enable the continuation of there Clubs? and will this great Sportsville cater for all Sports ? not only Football? and how is that going to work?? or is this all about Lower Hutt FC pushing there barrow.lucious2011-03-20 18:36:55

For anyone interested in finding out more about the Fraser Park Sportsville initiative, I recommend you take a look at the Sportsville section on the Hutt City Council website

It is also worth noting, that although Fraser Park was the first "sports hub" to be established, a similar initiative is now underway in Petone.  Details are also on the Hutt City Council website.

They have also been trying to get one up and running around Mitchell Park.

Lucious, if there was to be one around the Naenae area it would proberly include football, cricket, league, bowls, netball and swimming.

Its just I was involved in the racing industry, who went about a similar exercise and that just about managed to stuff the NZ racing Industry, it dropped turnover through to the basement, it dropped stakes, alienated and closed clubs all over the country, and then made the biggest available product available for the NZ public to bet on come from dodgey racetracks from rural Australia, there situation has got to the stage that Clubs in all codes in this Country are struggling to get full fields fairly often, I would just hope for this drive to make these huge changes in Lower Hutt sport, take a step back, and think after the little guy, Racing didn't, and are paying for it, and somehow I don't think the people who are running this have the ability to get a better result.

To be fair, the racing industry mergers (if i'm right) were about bringing all the smaller local racing clubs to one venue, thus they lost their identity. The difference here is that it is different sports coming together. I would be more worried if they were looking to sight LHFC, Stop Out, Naenae, Petone etc... in one venue.

I think the whole thing is a great idea but why is Lower Hutt City Football getting involved? Whats the main benefit??? They are a large club bigger than any of the other Clubs already established at Fraser park the next biggest would be Avalon Rugby but they have some pretty bad problems of there own. Is Lower Hutt finally going to establish themselves at one venue or still keep using Bell Park as there home ground for 1st team and the Station cafe as there clubrooms? It would be great if Lower hutt could get all there home games down at Fraser park would do wonders for the club but why get involved with all these smaller clubs when Lower Hutt is already doing so well own there own?

Lower Hutt Football Club currently operates from 2 venues:

Central League (Men and Women) play at Bell Park.  This is also where our Clubrooms are.

Fraser Park.  All other senior and junior teams play, and the majority of them train, at Fraser Park.  We have a fantastic indoor astroturf facility there which would be complemented by an all-weather, Central League quality pitch and administration/meeting facilities.

It makes sense for the whole club to be located in one place.  However, WE WILL NOT be moving lock, stock and barrel to Fraser, for anything that is not significantly better than what we have at Bell Park.
